"...and it's arrival changed us forever," said the speaker. "Human life span tripled. It was a Golden Age, a time of miracles We were--"
"Uhh, Speaker, with all do respect," Cayde-6 interrupted "the poor kid must've heard the story a million times. He could probably recite it backwards by now."
The Speaker sighed, "I didn't realize you were becoming bored by the tale of the Traveller's arrival, Cayde. Hunter, is the story of our ancestors prosperity so exhausting to you as well?"
Hunter looked up at the speaker and smirked, "No, sir. I always loved that story, it's just that Cayde and I were gonna head down to the pub for a drink before he heads up to the bridge."
If he were to be honest, Hunter had been bored of that story for years. He'd first heard it when he arrived at the Tower as a child, but his respect for the Speaker outweighed his restlessness.
"Very well," the Speaker chuckled. "You just keep Cayde-6 out of trouble before his briefing with the Vanguard this afternoon."
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
The Vanguard are the leaders of the Guardians. They are the strongest among their respective classes; the Titans, Warlocks and Hunters. They rarely leave the Tower, but when Cayde-6, Ikora Rey and Commander Zavala are called to battle, they always win.
"So what's this I heard about the Fallen trying to punch a hole into the City?" Hunter asked.
Cayde quickly hushed his pupil. The Fallen were a group of mysterious creatures that have been plaguing the people of Earth for centuries since the end of the Golden Age, the Collapse. To most, they are an urgent topic. To the Exo-Guardian Cayde-6, they're a headache.
"Ya think maybe just once we can just sit down and drink without you playing Twenty Questions?" he said.
"Well it ain't my fault you never tell me what the hell goes on in there," Hunter joked.
"For all I know, you Zavala and Ikora are playing cards while the other Guardians are out there fightin' Traveller knows what."
"Kid, if I'm being completely honest, half the time I don't even know what we're doing in there."
The two laughed.
Hunter was an orphaned scavenger as a child. When the Guardians found him, it was Cayde-6 who found himself understanding the boys pain. Taking Hunter in was the last thing anyone expected of Cayde, but the two became inseparable. Of all the Guardians, Hunter was closest with Cayde.
As the two poked fun with each other, Cayde received a transmission from Commander Zavala at the Tower.
"Cayde, where are you? You're needed immediately. This is urgent."
"Zavala, when you say the Fallen are urgent, I honestly can't help but laugh," Cayde joked. "I'll be there in a sec--"
"This isn't the Fallen," Zavala interrupted. There was panic in his voice, which wasn't like the usually collected Vanguard.
"Be ready for battle. The Vex have arrived on Earth."
