Prologue - Afterlife

(You can immediately skip to the 1st chapter)

Deep down inside the seawater on one bright night, there stood the poor souls of two-person who met their demise.

One was an adolescent boy with the given name of Yana and the other was a girl of similar age named Aria. Below their souls, both of their bodies lied next to each other, still holding hands until the very end.

The pinky finger on their entangled hands was carved with rows of scars, marking a promise they could not realize in their previous life; A promise to find a place where they could live together with no worries.

By viewing their tattered bodies and those grim faces they showed under their black hair, one could tell that their deaths weren't pleasant ones.

They were panicking about the state of their new bodies which were becoming see-through and untouchable. Their outline physical appearance stayed identical enough, but they were hollow on the inside.

Except for the face, there weren't any noticeable body features outside of their limbs and they were glowing lightly with the shade of white. No matter how hard they tried, they couldn't even touch hands since they would only phase through each other as if they didn't exist in the first place.

Talking was also impossible because none of their voice came out if they opened their mouth.

They witnessed the souls of sea animals floating down near their surroundings. Usual eyes wouldn't be able to see them but with the vision from their deceased body, the souls started to appear more clearly.

They could only watch as the animal's soul body parts slowly crumbled like ash in the water and finally vanished in the dark depths.

The ground then somehow absorbed the falling residue afterward, leaving nothing other than sand and rocks to remain on the seafloor. The pair stood silently in horror as they feared they would end like those creatures.

Then the moment came before they were ready. Starting from the tip of their hands and feet, their souls were gradually disintegrating like dust on the wind.

The boy tried to catch his crumbled finger with no result whatsoever and the girl could only let out inaudible screams and watched helplessly as she slowly faded away. After wasting some time picking up his dusted limb, he exchanged looks with her when he finally stopped.

They took a long glance at each other with hopelessness glared in their eyes, if they could do a hug in that occurrence then they would have done it already.

Despair and desperation loomed in their mind, but they could only wait for the inevitable to happen.

The girl tried hard to utter a word with her mouth, hoping for the boy to pick it up, which he did after focusing his whole self to inspect her mouth movement. The disintegration had reached his arm when he caught the first words that came out from her lips.

"Thank you..."

The boy froze in his position but kept on reading her speech as she continued.

"And sorry..."

The girl could see the aspiration that was gradually disappearing in the boy's eyes.

"For everything."

She finished her sentence after pausing for a bit and then closed her eyes regrettably. His lips were trembling at the moment and he could have let out a tear or two if not for his soul form being so dry.

But then something unknown was grumbling and making cracking noises beneath them. Although half of his feet had been missing from the front, he could still sense the shaking that came from the ground on his heel.

From the ground point where their crumbles were being absorbed, a sheet of light spurted upward and effectively shocked both of them. The light kept on traveling to the side before stopping on a spot and perfectly split into two different directions.

The boy locked his attention when both of the light pillars dashed in a path that was akin to a circle with him and the girl inside it before rejoining again on the opposite end.

Before anyone could comprehend anything, the ground loudly trembled again and the area of the circle shone so brightly to the point of blinding them momentarily.

When the light had finally become less intense, they saw a huge column of white walls that surrounded them in the circle and acted as an impenetrable barrier.

They were petrified in their state, trembling from fear because of the things that suddenly happened again between them. She was thinking of a way to escape in case something really bad was happening to them at the moment, but instantly gave up when she realized how huge and hard the barrier was.

The sands and rocks that were previously under them had gone, replaced by the same white thing that formed the towering walls before them. The whole thing was too much for either of their minds to be processed, therefore they could only anticipate for the worst.

The boy noticed something rising in the middle of that circle before falling unexpectedly due to the complete disintegration of his feet.

Glancing at his side, he found out that the girl's dissolving progression was already the same as his. They were idly lying on their back, unable to make any significant move. He returned his vision to the circle's center and got a better look at the thing that caught his attention. It was a round-shaped object with gold-colored hair-like strands which surrounded its whole surface.

Rather, it wasn't a thing, but a person.

The thing that he thought was an object quickly ascended from its place, revealing it to be a mesmerizing adult woman with a strange bright yellow light radiating from her body. She wore a pure white garment to cover her lower body, whereas her long golden hair that reached the hip was the sole thing that covered her upper body and also her eyes.

Her face, although subtly shown, contained the appearance of a natural beauty with a touch of mystery in her guise. Such a person was impossible to exist even in their dream. They were stunned by the presence of the lady but then she broke the silence that lingered between them.

"I have long awaited for this moment," her majestic voice echoed as if it made strong waves within the water.

He tried to make a reply to her but then he remembered that nothing would come out of his mouth. His desire to ask about everything that had happened was urging, nonetheless, he could only flap his mouth and hope she would understand him.

"Fear none, as I am here to help you. However, I'm afraid you do not have much time on your side," said the woman. She was being spot on, they had already lost their limbs and the only thing that remained was their chest and head.

"I have an offer to propose for the both of you, and in return, I want you to achieve my wish," she spoke while swiftly approaching their souls. The boy and the girl stared at her as they waited for her next speech intently.

"I will send you to the world below us. Find my body there then restore the world to the state where it belonged before. And for that, I will grant you a new life,"

The boy glared as she finished her sentence. He was disbelieved at her words, but he knew they had no other choice than to listen to the spirit woman that offered them something impossible.

Both of their necks were dissolving at an alarming speed and he was aware of how little time they had to prepare anything; Her lack of explanation didn't help them either. Still, anyone with careful consideration wouldn't think twice to take such a deal.

Then she asked once again with a solemn tone,

"Will you take my offer?"
