English flew by quicker than I could even say it.
It felt like the world was now out to get me and I had no idea what for.
I had so many new questions that needed answers.
What did I do to deserve this?
Why me?
How can I get rid of that monstrous lady?
What kind of powers could she give me?
How powerful can I become?
How powerful am I now?
How powerful am I now?
"Dre" Barry said as he banged his hand on the lunch table, causing me to jump.
I looked around the cafe.
How did I even get in here?
"Uhh, how long was I here for?" I questioned.
"Like ten minutes? Are you ok you seem...lost."
"I am fine. I have to go to the library and finish up the project for Mr. Morales since my mom won't let me go anywhere."
"Is Nathan going with you?"
I eyed him carefully "Yes" I drew out the word "is that a problem?"
"Of course not, I just hate sitting here alone" he frowned.
I felt so bad. I didn't want him to feel alone.
But he couldn't know what's going on.
"Awe Barry, I will be done in no time. This is the first and ONLY day I will be leaving you during the day I promise" I lied.
He smiled at me warmly "ok."
I then grabbed my book bag and headed to the library.
When I walked in and immediately spotted Nathan seeing as there were only two people here minus the librarian.
He was in the far back where the computers were.
I walked up to him, he was so focused on the computer screen that he didn't even look at me. I then dropped my bag.
"What did you find out so far?" I probed sitting down next to him.
He finally looked at me, Nothing so far. All I found were these articles but they're in Aramaic.
"Aramaic?" What the hell is that?
"Yeah, it's a dead language that no one speaks" he replied.
"Can't you use a translator?"
"Not for Aramaic it's known as one of the deadest languages. Plus it would probably be inaccurate. But the ones that do know it are from the Middle East."
"Do you think it could have any information about what I am?"
"Seeing that I have not found anything else...yeah" he confirmed.
"Do you think a teacher here can read Aramaic? I mean like a language teacher?"
"We could see, just let me print these out."
I grabbed my bag and stood up as he walked over to the printer.
He was taking longer than necessary so I decided to log out of his account for him.
He walked back over to me and handed me the papers.
"This is a damn booklet!" I half-shouted.
"SHH!" the librarian hushed.
"it's only a hundred and twenty-five pages."
"How are we supposed to get a language teacher to read this whole thing for us?" I whispered to him.
"I can be pretty persuasive especially since all the language teachers are women" he smirked and I nearly slapped him.
"Hurry up we got ten minutes until our next class." and with that, we both left.
***
"Ms. Jones!" Nathan called out.
We have been to nine other language teachers to see if they knew Aramaic, but none of them did.
Ms. Jones was our last shot.
When we caught up to Ms. Jones I was definitely out of breath.
Maybe cheerleading can help with
my shape.
"Hi I am sorry to bother you but I wanted to know if you speak Aramaic."
"Aramaic? That's a dead language you know?" She inquired with her thick accent.
"Yeah, it's for a project we're doing."
"I am sorry but I do not know Aramaic. It's rather hard to find someone who can actually speak that language."
Yeah, tell me about it.
"I have to get ready for class and I suggest you two head for the class as well."
"We will, have a nice day Ms. Jones," Nathan said with a grin.
Ms. Jones blushed and smiled. "You too." and with that, she walked off.
I ran my hands across my face and my hair "how are we going to read this now?" I asked.
We began walking down the halls little ways until we saw Mr. Morales.
"Hey guys, are you two ok?" Mr. Morales asked us.
"Yeah we are fine," I told him.
Mr. Morales looked at the article I had in my hand.
"What's that you got there?" But before I could answer, he took it out of my hands and started to examine it.
"I didn't know you spoke Aramaic" he informed.
"We don't we were looking for a language teacher to read that for us. wait do you speak Aramaic?" Nathan shrieked
"Speak it, no not really. Read it, yes. I am not good with word pronunciation."
"Could you read it to us? Please." I practically begged.
"Class is starting in less than a minute I'm sâ" I cut him off
"Mr. Morales I really need you to read this for us. We have a huge project in creative writing that is due in two days and this could help us with the project." I lied and he looked like he wanted to protest.
"Remember when you said that if I needed anything to ask you? Well, I am asking you now for help."
Nathan looked like he wanted to smile but kept his poker face in check.
Mr. Morales sighed then started to walk away. I looked at Nathan puzzled.
"Are you guys coming or not?" Mr. Morales questioned. And with that, we followed him to his classroom.
