Chapter 24 - 023| Kevin: SYSTEM!

Kevin felt his whole body heat up like he is having a 50+ degree fever(not that he has experienced it). His breathing was rigid and hard. His mind is faint and his body feeble.

He was rapidly losing his consciousness. Black spots appeared in his vision. And when everything of these things he had felt collided and reached its peak, he collapsed entirely.

The last thought before he collapsed was that this game world really has something against him. The amount of fainting episodes he has is too much! Not giving him a chance to do something about it damn it!

[Host!]

He was trapped in his consciousness and was unable to wake up. Never was he so glad to hear about this system of his than this moment. It can somehow make him more calm and rational with it around him.

"Where the hell did you go! I almost died!" Kevin raged.

[We are dealing with Kathrine. One way or another we both know she will make me shut down at some point.]

"Not an excuse to leave me up to fate." Kevin was displeased with the system's rationale. Although it is logical, he is upset by how he is faring in this world.

[Sorry]

[But worry not. I already notified the main system of our situation here. Perhaps this game world will be suspended and everyone who participated will be subject to some consolation.]

"What do you mean?"

[The main system will interfere for us.]

"That lazy ass will finally take some action after a complaint? That's a huge improvement." Kevin exclaimed. "But is there some sort of catch? I still cannot fully believe that main system of yours."

[The fault lies on the main system, so to compensate you it will do its best to make sure you will at least be safe in this world. Though you still need to have a girl to love you for you to get out of here.]

"Does that mean that I get to do whatever I want here without being in danger in the truest sense?" Kevin gave a critical eye on his floating screen. "Does that apply to the dangers the players bring? Better yet, can it save me from Kathrine?"

[....]

[....there was a correction from the main system just now]

[It says that it will make sure that there will be no harm to fall unto you as long as these dangers comes from the world you are in]

"In short I will still die." Kevin's voice was cold as he said that. "Though in the hands of Kathrine I will not die for sure, I will only live a life of a prized trophy of sorts only she could enjoy."

[As bad as it sounds, that is precisely your situation host]

"Damn you!" Kevin could only curse. He doesn't like this whole thing. He wanted to go home and live a damn normal and dull life like an average John at the side. At least that kind of life is relatively safer than this insane and unscientific game of deaths he has to survive.

The system silently accepted whatever abuse its host was directing at it. For the period of time they spent on it, it was known that the best thing to do at the young man's episode was to be silent until he calmed down on his own. Further talks will only be done after he lets out his steam.

"....so what the hell is happening to me now?" Kevin asked as he felt lighter now. "I don't know what the hell is happening to me and I dare not think of the future that only seems to bleak at the moment."

[I can offer some assistance in hiding you in critical moments.]

"Don't believe in that." Kevin quickly said. "Wasn't there plenty of records of you being missing in action at times I needed you the most? I rather have some sort of skill that will not trouble you at all."

[...]

[....there is still the skill book from the package. You can use that instead if you want.]

"Now that I mention it, I still haven't used it." Kevin says as he calls out that book to his consciousness. "How to use it?"

[Just think about what skill you want and it will be made available for you. Though a little warning on the skill you want, you have to be careful in choosing them. For safety reasons, you may consult me before you try to use the book. I don't want to wait for a long time before I can have another host.]

"Thanks for the advice. Though I think you are more concerned about having a host than warning me." Kevin rolled his eyes as he thought of countless skills he could learn. He wants it to be helpful in making him live longer.

[It was a given I want you to live host]

[Who knows it will only be after humans got to transverse the space before I get to have another host]

"Is Stealth okay as a skill?" Kevin said as he ignored his system's monologue with practiced ease. He has done it too many times that he has already mastered selective hearing whenever it blabbers.

[....]

[You are not listening to me at all]

[You're so mean host]

"Quite being a crybaby" Kevin has the urge to roll his eyes to the system. But as he was in his own consciousness, was that even possible? Because if it is, he might have done it too many times for him to count by now. "Is stealth a fine skill that cannot kill me as you fear it to be?'

[...]

[Evaluating….]

[Evaluation complete]

[It can cause no harm to your body or mind. Wise choice too. In the game worlds you can hide as long you want from any dangers that may appear. If you are somehow cornered by Kathrine you have some chance to escape if she is slack enough using too.]

"Meaning she could still catch me if she is vigilant enough." Kevin deadpanned as he was not satisfied with what the system says.

[....that as long as you hide from her she will have a hard time with you using this]

"Still not enough"

[....]

[Are you going to use the skill book for a {Stealth Skill}?

Yes/No]

"Can't you be chill?"

[Yes/No]

"Damn it!" Kevin cursed as this system of his is playing dead once again. Was it angry enough to not give him the details of its evaluation first before making him finalize his decision?

[Yes/No]

"Fine! I want to use it okay? Are you happy now?" Kevin says after that the Yes/No button keeps flashing in front of him. He does not even have his hands to press it! Furthermore refusing and saying no seems not recognized in this voice activated mood he could only use. After saying no so many times, he could only say he wants it.

[Thank you for your cooperation!]

Kevin did not have the time to give some aggressive remarks when he suddenly felt like he blacked out. Does it make sense that he was already knocked out for him to be knocked out again? But then again nothing is scientific in this whole damn thing he is in now.

When he came to himself, he went to scream in frustration towards the abyss of his mind. His system did not mention him personally training his skills in whatever place he was dragged into. He may have not felt a physical pain as he is not using his body, he sure as hell had a hard time passing on those ridiculous standards the skill requires! For god damned sake, he is not aiming to become some sort of ninja who can blend in the background like some sort of chameleon.

"SYSTEM!"

[Welcome back host!]

"YOU LITTLE PIECE OF—"

*Please wait for a while as Kevin gave his rants his heart out. The poor boy needs to let it out somehow to be well adjusted*

After a period of time Kevin finally calmed enough to talk rationale, System glowed softly as it tried to gauge its host's state.

[Host are you okay now?]

[Better yet calm enough now?]

"What do you think?" Kevin snapped his system. He is still mad at it despite mostly more or less resigned to his experiences. "Why did you not warn me of that?"

[I forgot]

"Forgot?" Kevin felt bewildered at the reply that he is unable to refute at all. He seriously worried for his future in the next game worlds he will be in with how unreliable this system of his.

"You know what I rather not think about it." Kevin said as his future is too bleak for his liking. "Tell me what is happening to my body and its surroundings now? I remembered being so abnormally hot that my mind felt like a mush."

[Your body is fine, Host!]

[The abnormal temperature you spoke of is no longer present as I checked it. There is no harmful substance inside your body too.]

"That's good to hear." Kevin sighs in relief hearing that. "How about my surroundings? Who is taking care of my body as of now?"
