Chapter 12 - ACE

Rain. Storm. Thunder. I love the calmness it brings to my spirit. Inside of me is always a storm, a storm of emotions. The blistering thunder was music to my ears because it wasn't different for how or what I felt. I stared at the ceiling of my room, though the room was pitch black. I just like pretending I could see something. I turned to my alarm clock and sighed just as it blared. I slammed my hand on it and rolled out of my bed. I switched on my light and grabbed my phone.

No messages. No missed calls. I went down the stairs and into the kitchen. My mother was already making breakfast.

"morning mum" I greeted kissing her cheek. She smiled at me. 'There's no s school today, because of the storm" I groaned. I was looking forward to school, to seeing Sofia. I sat down on the bar stool as she placed my breakfast in front of me.

"morning mum" another voce greeted. I almost choked hearing my elder brothers voice. Since when did he come home. He faced me and we just stared at each other having nothing to say. We'd never built a sibling relationship so every time we met it felt like two friends meeting for the first time.

"Ace" he murmured. I nodded in response and he sat down away from me. We managed to start our breakfast in peace before the devil himself showed up. He stared at all of us and I saw my mother hold her breathe. It was hard to have all of us at the table and if it ever occurred a fight always broke out after sometime.

He sat down at the head of the island and ate his breakfast slowly. The tension in the air was like a thick bubble waiting to burst.

"so how is business school?" my mother asked Elijah who rolled his eyes.

"good, exams are good" I groaned internally. If he's finished his exams, that means he'll be home more often.

"that reminds me" my father started "I've enrolled Ace in the business school, he'll be starting next summer" there was pin drop silence in the room, nobody spoke.

"what?" Elijah stuttered. I could register nothing except throwing my plate against my father's head.

….

"meirda" Elijah cursed as the plate shattered against the wall behind my father's head. He'd dodged it quickly.

"Alexander" my mother cried once she'd recovered from the shock of the plate I threw.

"be quiet" my father hissed at her.

"no Alex, he's too young to make him follow you path, let him choose what he wants"

"be quiet Judith"

"he is not Elijah"

"I said be quiet" he slammed his mug against the table and it cracked. "he will succeed me in California, who else will do it?" he asked menace in his voice. I gritted my teeth and clenched my fist. How dare he? He came up to me and I could see the flame in his eyes.

"you will do as I say Ace Valentino, clear?"

"no" I retorted "go to hell, " I stormed out of the room making sure to slam the door shut.
