A week went past attending the classes and gathering the information about hemomancy. Zaiden comprehended what unlimited powers blood sorcery could provide him. Mastering that art was equivalent to standing above all the vampires. Zaiden wanted to know how far the magical studies could offer.
Curtis came handy in that regard, they both headed towards the library in the break. Zaiden could sense the envious eyes preying on him, he earned the reputation after the attunement check. Anna was the strongest among the whole batch, while Zaiden being the second strongest.
Ellen became distant from Zaiden, she was secretive yet observant. Zaiden had figured out she didn't have sources to obtain favors, but her ingenious schemes were enough to pave her way. She was the third strongest with 24% attunement level.
{Don't you think you should feed this poor resident in your body?}
It wasn't more than two weeks since Zaiden fed on someone. He felt dizzy but wasn't malnourished, he was capable of going unfed for another week. But the demon within his body was a greedy one.
'The system hadn't said any blood group preference this time. Should I feed on anyone convenient?'
They both reached the library door, the insides of the building were made from special kind of material. It was a conductor to the mystical energy outside, while the dorms were insulated to prevent students from excessive self training.
"What taste would you prefer?"
Before the demon could reply someone from behind approached Zaiden.
He reflexively acted on the basis of his heightened senses and bent down. Zaiden crouched on one foot with the support of his fingers, stretching the other leg out he rotated with a swift movement. Before his attack could successfully hurt Anna she effortlessly dodged it.
{Haha, you just lost your face in front of your potential opponent. Good job!}
The demon's mock stirred anger within him but Zaiden maintained his composure and stood up. Anna came to do some search about blood manipulation, she too wanted to stand above the lowly beings. The three of them had the dangerous ambition of getting ahead of their peers.
"Good but not impressive."
Anna' nonchalant attitude was up to her reputation, Zaiden understood he would have a hard time dealing with her. Her response to Zaiden' reflexives was the skilled mentoring by her father. She stretched her hand to greet whereas Zaiden overlooked it and headed inside.
{Why did you do that? You could have befriended her, why are you eagerly making enemies?}
Zaiden' hatred for the vampires was deeply rooted, he couldn't make peace with that unsettling feeling within him. Anna was now his enemy due to her higher attunement. The girl raised her eyebrows in response to his arrogant audacity and strode inside.
'What exactly is he planning to do?'
Curtis touched the book and was absorbing the knowledge while thinking about every possible worst scenario. Zaiden' eyes were searching for something on 'hemomancy' in the shelves.
Anna' eyes were keenly observing him and guess his intentions. She picked her desired book and took a seat opposite to Zaiden. The gems provided to all of the students were to save the faculty from ridiculous questions.
Every recruit now was fully aware of the basics and nature of their coursework. But Zaiden' thirst was insatiable, his searching eyes were bound to look for blood magic. Curtis already completed his session, whereas the demon took his nap.
"You can't find anything on hemomancy in here."
Anna' voice pricked his ears and he turned around with a cold expression.
"And what makes you think that your guess is correct?"
Zaiden folded his arms waiting for her reply.
Anna closed her book of 'philosophy of humans' and answered him with her crimson orbs staring at him.
"It's the only knowledge which isn't provided to us. I believe you aren't any special to figure it out, just a lucky pal."
Her mock on Zaiden's lack of knowledge made him enraged. Zaiden' position could rise due to his rare element and blood group, but that would endanger his life.
"You seem smart enough to know about the subject matter. Would you mind teaching this illiterate?"
Zaiden purposely chose his words to manipulate her, Anna could be superior to him in terms of power. But belonging to an aristocratic family and staying under the protective wing of her father, she wasn't exposed to manipulation.
Anna put down the book and gestured to Zaiden to sit before she began to share her knowledge with him. She was stingy and generally cold by nature, no other previous batch was up to par with her. That's why she offered help to Zaiden acknowledging his potential. She wanted a sparring partner during the exercises, which required an expansion of Zaiden's knowledge.
