Chapter 38 - Chapter 36: Rosé

Diana wasn't that desperate to open the folded paper, but she was interested in knowing who the boy was hence she left the office and raced after him. "Hey, wait... wait" she screamed at the young man and kept chasing him by using the stairs.

There was almost twenty staircases from Diana's office and it would take a highly trained athlete or just fast person to take them all. When they were at fifteenth floor, the young man reached for the elevator and opened it, then he closed it quickly just when Diana was close. "Wait..." Diana screamed but the elevator was closed. She tried to click on the switches trying to open it again but it didn't - the young man was long gone and there was no way she could take the stairs and still catch up to him.

Diana hate defeats, she always wanted to be a winner at things and losing the young man she felt like she just lost a case with a very potential client - then she remembered the piece of paper and right then and there she took another elevator and went to her office. The door was opened however she didn't remember if she closed it on her way to chasing the young man, or not. When she entered inside everything was the same except that the folded piece of paper wasn't at the table where she left it at first.

"What the hell...?" she asked herself, then she bent down to look for it but there was nothing. Then she heard footsteps leaving the office and going for the elevator - meaning probably someone was inside the office. Diana took off running to see who it was but the moment she reached the elevator, it was closed and it showed the person was going down. Diana went after the other elevator and clicked on the switch "Come on, come on..." she grinned and when it opened she got inside and clicked the ground floor. In just seconds she was down to the ground floor which was a restaurant - her eyes wandered all over the place since it was crowded but to find nothing. Only if she knew that the man who took the folded piece of paper ended at the first floor she wouldn't be so worried at seeing who took the paper.

After a long ten minutes of thoroughly looking, suspecting and anxious, Diana returned to her office like a defeated lamb - her shoulders were low and she had lost all the morale but she knew something was wrong.

Marcus called straight away and she picked up.

"Babe, you won't believe what happened to me" she said.

"Wait, are you alright?"

Diana stuttered "Yes... I guess so... I'm not so sure"

"You've been ignoring me the whole day, I was actually waiting for you to surprise me with whatever you've been hiding"

"I was supposed to meet Khloe, the Latino woman we met at the restaurant but she just magically disappeared and I never saw her again. Then a young man came to my office with a note possibly from Khloe, I went down chasing him and he somehow evaporated"

"What?" asked Marcus, as if he wasn't aware of everything while it was one of his secret spies who took the note. "Evaporated how?"

"I mean he was lost in the city, then I came back to my office and someone was here Marcus. He took the piece of paper before I could read it"

"Someone was in your office? Shit, stay right there I'm coming"

"I'm fine now... He didn't hurt me"

"Diana you just said someone was in your office, I'm coming over"

"Marcus..." Diana called out but Marcus had already hang up the phone and he jumped in his car to go and pick up Diana.

Marcus rushed to Diana's office not because he was scared about what happened, after all he was the one who ordered his men to secure that paper and keep following Diana all over the city. He made a rush to her because he didn't want Diana to suspect him of anything, especially now that Khloe was dead and so was the kid she sent to deliver the piece of information to Diana. Somehow while crossing the road, the young man was hit by a fast moving car and the driver didn't stop to check on him. Marcus was notified via messages "TARGET ELIMINATED! A MOVING CAR" it read the message from his spies and he had a huge smile on his lips knowing it was all done and good, Khloe was no longer a problem.

When Marcus reached Diana's office, she found her at the ground floor exhausted and worn out from worries and disappointments, he signalled her to get into the car and they drove to a very expensive hotel in New York - Park Hyatt New York and booked a presidential suite just for the two of them, it was worth five thousand dollars per night and came with spa, massages, continental dinner with candle light and a breakfast by the pool.

It was 11:20pm and close to midnight, Marcus was in a white bathrobe overlooking the gazing stars from the thirtieth floor of the hotel with a glass of rosé on his left hand. The lights in New York were just adorable, this magical city which made him famous and rich. His hairs were dripping wet from the steamy hot shower he just had, he was smelling so good after a night perfume he applied just for sleeping - only one thing was missing and that was Diana who was having a massage to release the tense stress of the day.

That alone moment had Marcus thinking and reflecting all the things he'd gone through, just to get where he was. He remembered the exact date, year, and time he killed Mr Yuin Lavir, a billionaire worth a fortune with a stack of diamonds and gold, and then alter the will. Everyone close to Yuin knew that Marcus was his son, he even reffered to him as his son in the panel of his business investors and confidants. Hence when he died it was easy for everyone to believe that Mr Yuin Lavir left every penny and investments to Marcus who was eighteen during that time. The cause of death was said to be his diagnosed stage four colon cancer but Marcus made sure he died sooner than later.

"You are a good son Tony, I have raised you with kindness and I'm sure your father would be very proud of what you've become, and your mother... I can't begin to describe how painful it must be to lose two parents in one setting of an accident. But I promised your father that I will take care of you, and that's what I will do even when I'm not alive anymore" said Mr Yuin then he coughed for a moment, Marcus gave him a handkerchief. "My days are numbered Tony, I think it's time I tell you the truth which I didn't even tell my wife. I have a daughter in Russia, she's a bastard and she barely knows me. She's the same age as you Tony, and I want to give her all of my fortunes since I have no other biological child. You and her will build my legacy under the name Lavir so that even I may be gone, but not forgotten"

Marcus was silent all the time, he didn't know how to react but he did sure didn't like Mr Yuin's decision to leave all his fortunes to a bastard child he had with a woman in Russia instead of him who spent two years taking care of Mr Yuin ever since his parents died in a terrible accident leaving him with his young brother. "Take this letter to her when I'm dead. Look out for my daughter Tony, that's all I ask of you"

"I will do it father, I promise you" said Marcus but then yet, a promise to him is just a simple thing with no meaning at all.

Every morning Marcus would give Mr Yuin a cup of coffee with a poison which killed him slowly and completely weakened his immunity system. Day by day he grew weaker, until one day he couldn't wake up anymore and he was dead - that was Marcus's first victim and he was eighteen of age.

He burned the letter which Mr Yuin wrote to his enstranged daughter, and he never made any effort to find who this woman was for over twelve years. His younger brother, Simon was living his wild life as a tour guide in Bali - not typically a life Marcus wanted for his younger brother but each one to his own way. Marcus chose the city while Simon chose the jungle, and they were barely in touch except only when Simon needed soeume money that's when he would reach out to his brother - apart from that nothing. The glass window had Marcus thinking about the kind of life he had once, and the one he was having right now. Diana embraced him in a tight hug and laid her head on his shoulder, he managed a smile and drank his rosé.
