Chapter 39 - Gifts

"Hands in. Interlock and hold firm. From here on out we'll stick together as one. We move as one and we fight as one because we are one. If you must leave this group then take somebody with you. I don't want to lose any of you because of you recklessly walking off on your own. Now does anyone here have fluorescent skin?"

"Umm, I have something to add that I feel should be said now instead of later."

"Genie, you're not pulling out on us now are you?"

"No, no. Nothing like that at all I swear. It's just that I'm not a...wel….I'm not a how would you say it. I'm not a wolf!!! I mean I do help wolf's gain their power but I do not have any powers myself."

"What are you trying to say?"

"She's a powersource. There are very few original numbers left but with more coming to light everyday they have to have gotte their powers from somewhere. Genie here is one of those super computers that have been able to harness inhuman powers and put them into the cells of numbers like us."

"Ohhh!! I see. So you are the one who gave Lori her healing skin and Sofia her powerful strength. That is nothing to be ashamed of."

"Well, yes I grant out powers but I'm still on the young end. My magic is still small but growing everyday. I help make new wolves but Loris, Sofias, Abbys. And any other wolf that has already gone has gotten their powers from a different powersource."

"Let's walk and talk. What is the role of a powersource and what is it exactly they do?"

"The second question I can't give you a simple answer but for an answer to your first question I can give. Dragon gives us our magic and tells us who to use them on. Then it is our job to give certain abilities to certain babies and as they grow up help them understand the gift we gave them."

"So if one of the powersources die then so does all the gifts you have given people?"

"Not exactly. It's not if we die then all gifts are revoked but more if Dragon dies then all gifts die with him."

"That's making a little more sense. Shadow got power hungry and instead of answering to Dragon for his gifts he instead decided to confront Dragon one on one and...consumed all of Dragon into his own body if I'm not mistaken. Is that correct?"

"That's how the legend goes. Dragon was hidden in a house near a garden and only the Powersources could go in and see him but one day there was a kid who got powerhungry and snuck in to see Dragon for himself. He was able to take out a few guards with his wolf characteristics but before he could reach Dragon's room; the rest of the numbers took up guard and had no choice but to burn the house to the ground. The fire spread and caught onto the rest of the garden consuming everything in a cloud of fire. No one knew if Dragon or Shadow had lived but while Abby and Sofia were tending to the fields outside of the garden that is where they saw Shadow. Course they had no idea he was the one who snuck in or that Dragon still lived inside him but they didn't care.

They took him in, clothed him, fed him, and gave him a nice home but their eyes were not open until one night they heard screams coming from Shadows room. Nothing was thought of it much but once the screams got louder and louder each night; the girls decided to investigate one night. They followed him and watched as every night he clung himself to a cross; faced the sun; and then screamed in anguish as the rays from the sun started pulling his body apart trying to separate him from Dagon. The attempts were futile and only proved more tragic on Shadow than success so Abby and Autumn came up with the idea that during the day they would let Shadow roam free but at night he would be locked up tight in a cage away from all forms of light."

"We did the best we could at the time, Sixth."

"Shadow started slipping further and further into darkness as his body kept wrestling with himself to release Dragon but Shadow wouldn't budge. He never talked much besides the few words he did say which were, baptized by fire. Baptized by fire!!"

"We didn't know what he meant so again we followed him and this time found him at the mouth of a cave. Following him in, it was clear to see what he was seeking to do. The light from the sun was not bright enough to pull Dragon free so he had to go to an even brighter source of heat. He was taking the plunge. Autumn and I tried to stop him but it was too late. He jumped!!!!

Up above the flames we watched for bubbles in the calm fire but down below Dragon had broken free of Shadow and now the two were wrestling it out back and forth. Minutes ticked by like hours and hours like days but then we saw it: Bubbles!! The ground shook and the rocks covering the entrance gave way as a dragon's hand rose to the surface. It clawed the ground looking for a firm hold and then sunk back beneath the flames. Wasn't a while later when we heard a roar and Dragon rose looking mightier and stronger than ever.

In the years since; Dragon and Shadow have built this world to keep intruders out while keeping us safe behind bars. We have gone through lots on this world and are patiently awaiting the day where we will come down to earth to live but until that day comes…..evil never sleeps.

Dragon had conquered death, took the likeness of man, and wrestled with this world. But just like Jesus, he rose to conquer the flames."

"You don't believe us, do you Sixth? I don't need light to see that it's written all over your face. Where do you believe your powersource comes from? Is it from another being such as yourself or someplace else?"

"I'm just processing that's all. Christianity does not have any tales of woo like all others out there nor does it have a very compelling, engaging story that's understandable to all, but what it does have is a Savior, a King, and a Conqueror. Now I've watched and heard of many tales and theologies like yours but everytime they ask a Christian what do they think happened; the Christian just sits in silence thinking of what they just heard and than the scene changes back to the normal movie almost as if saying Christians can't even get a say to defend themselves. With all of that being said, I'll try my best to exlain what I believe the truth is but just like I am not judging you I ask that you not judge me."

"That sounds agreeable. So where do your gifts come from?"

"Oof. You're starting off with a tough one I see. The gifts you are wanting me to refer to are called the Spiritual gifts. For starters, my God is not someone who just floats from person to person, needs security to make sure no one steals Him or only allows certain people to go see Him. Well that is how it used to be but not anymore. Back to the question at hand we need to go to 1st Corinthians 12:4-11. It says,

'There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of services, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. Now to each one of the manifestations of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom; to another a message of knowledge by means of the same spirit; to another faith by the same spirit; and yet to another gifts of healing by that one spirit. He still gives to another miraculous powers and to another prophecy. For others He lets them distinguish between spirits and to another to speak in tongues while the other can interrupt them. All these are works of one and the same spirit. He distributes to each one just as He determines.'"

"That's a lot of gifts and powers He distributes but what of the Garden and everything else?"

"You all ask too many questions at once. Have none of you learned the meaning of patience?"

"Sixth, kneel down!!"

" Abby, boost me."

"Roarrr!!"

'"Sofia!!!
