Chapter 4 - Love (2)

Apples. The reason I'm here in the first place. My love for the sacred fruit is what killed me last time.

*Past life (Regina Pov)*

"Mother, do you remember when I was a child and you gave me a dried apple? Well you should, I like you, enjoy these apples very much. But what I found best was when your laced apples crossed the threshold of my mouth. They were so sweet, but so deadly." said the monster in front of me. I sat naked and hairless-ly on the dungeons cold floor.

I remember giving her those apples...well not quite. When I got to the door in my disguise she tried to bite me again. Of course I ran away in fear. If not for that prince taking her corpse, she'd still be dead.

How could I have been so stupid as to not burn her body? My people won't allow this. I cared for them and protected them from this monster. I've changed this entire kingdom for the better. They are loyal and I trust them to protect their Queen.

"Time for a little trip outside mother dearest! I know that these people really used to love you. But gladly it only took a few months of my persuasion for them to forsake you. I'm sure that you'll be happy to know that they have ALL chosen to bow down to me and me alone."

"Y-your're ly-ing they would never! No matter how many lies you thread through their minds."

"Guards. Take her to the town as she is. Lets give the people a little show."

*Present time*

"That's so kind of you Leo. Thank you." I smile at him as I try not to think back on my death.

"I hope you're excited for today. I've set up our wedding just the way you would want it. Do you want some of the towns people to come? Of course we can't invite the whole village but we can invite some of your friends' families." He grabs for a piece of wheat bread and the jam.

"Yes! Maybe it'll be easier to accept me if they see how much you love me. Let's also invite a few of the forest merchants."

In my past life I didn't want anyone but family at our wedding, but this time will be different. I want the world to know how happy we are. Although, I've come to despise the people of the village and forest, maybe if they see how happy we are they'll be less likely to fall for her tricks and lies. They will be able to see that their king has full trust in me and loves me. It'll be stories for generations to come, how our love is the truest of all.

"Then it's decided. I'll have my advisers pick all of the guests from the village and forest. Are you okay Regina? You haven't really eaten anything. I don't want you to be unprepared for our wedding today."

"I'm fine. Just a little tired still. Would you like to go for a walk in the garden?" I say trying to change the subject. I have no doubt that he's seen through my plan but he carries on.

"You know that I would love nothing more, but we need to be ready. The wedding is only 5 hours away." He said with a sad but happy frown.

After saying our goodbyes I'm rushed upstairs so that I can begin getting ready. Starting with a long soak in hot water with rose petals and a citrus aroma, the everlasting tradition of the kingdom.
