Chapter 17 - Ch. 17 Divorce

It took hard work to collect all the files and evidence that showed Alexsei was guilty of a kidnapping that took place twenty years ago. He even tried to find Stanley's whereabouts to hear the whole story.

From that man, Axel found out that little Chleo was swept away by the swift current, and she had sipped the river water until it filled her lungs. It took great power for the red queen to control the river's flow so they could save Chleora. When they managed to get Chleora out of the river, the boy was already dying, and her whole body had become cold.

The red queen sacrificed her life to perform a life energy transplant. And she succeeded. Chleora was safe and sound but in return... Katalina van Oostven left this world for good.

Not long after, Katalina's lover, Kinsey Alvianc, died in an accident due to extreme grief. Kinsey may not be suicidal, but he lived life like a zombie. He didn't work nor eat for days.

All he did was shut himself in the room and would only come out at night to drink a potent alcoholic drink to make him forget his grief.

In the end, the man died from drunk driving.

There were so many victims dying for nothing just because of Alexsei's heinous deeds. If only at that time he had cared about Alexsei, if he had helped him when Hunter was hunting him... maybe Chleo's situation would be different.

But… what's the point of regretting it now? He couldn't change history or rewrite this fate. All he could do is fix it and find a way out where he can make Chleo and Alexis live happily.

"Alexis, I know you sincerely love Chleo. Even though we got married during these two years, our relationship has never been like husband and wife in general. I never forced her to love me. What's filled her heart is you. It had always been you." stated Axel honestly. "I'll let her go. I hope... you will give her a second chance. This time... I won't be your hindrance."

Alexis never thought that Axel would hand over Chleo. The young man looked stunned, as if the world stopped at that moment. It was apparent that all of this truth was too sudden, and his shock was beyond words. Alexis couldn't process it in an instant.

Axel decided to leave him alone to give the young man time to digest all this shocking information. He went outside and teleported away to his astral place. Axel would shut himself up in his place to mourn. He didn't want to be bothered, didn't want to see anyone ... he didn't even want to see Chleo for fear that he might change his mind.

Axel decided to stay in this place for the next few years.

Unbeknown to him, as soon as the blue king walked out of his former nephew's apartment, Alexis smiled triumphantly.

"I've known that for a long time, uncle. Unfortunately, you don't admit that you contributed to this. My father is desperate to take such indecent action because you were the one who fought him first. Everything is your fault! You think you can disguise yourself as a stranger, but I do remember your cold body temperature pretty well. You don't know, father already knew your true identity and told me every night."

Alexis laughed scornfully at one of the natural rulers once they said was invincible, which he had now managed to defeat. His father succeeded in killing the red queen twenty years ago and took great pride in his presence. Would he also succeed in causing the death of the blue king?

At the same time, there was a commotion at the Regnz family residence. A lawyer arrived with Chleora's divorce papers. Axel gave half of his assets to Chleora as a result of their divorce.

Chleora was surprised to get this divorce document and the inheritance given by her husband. Catherine, moreover Vincent, was also speechless and looked at her daughter, confused and disappointed.

"Chleo, did you fight with your husband? I remember I never taught you about divorce," the father stated clearly with his tone that he was disappointed in her.

"I... I..."

"Dear, did something happen in England?" this time, it was her mother who asked. "Getting married is a sacred thing, and one cannot just divorce because of a fight. If you have any misunderstanding, please resolve it and talk it over carefully. After all, your husband loves you so much and protects you without you knowing. Are you going to let him divorce you like this?"

"No... I..." tears trickled out of the corners of her eyes. She wanted to explain to her parents that she didn't want a divorce, but her throat felt as if something was holding up her vocal cords.

"I think you should contact your husband and talk about this carefully."

Chleo instantly complied and quickly borrowed her brother's phone as her husband never gave her any communication tools. Alas, she doesn't even know Axel's phone number. So far, she didn't care about the man's condition, let alone want to contact him.

The girl groaned in frustration at her stupidity. How can she contact her husband if she doesn't know his contact number?

To not stir suspicion around her family that she had not a healthy marriage life with Axel, Chleo left with the excuse that she wanted to meet Axel in person rather than by phone. She brought Diego's smartphone so she could update her family as soon as she met Axel.

Chleo browsed the internet for her husband's corporate offices in New York. Then ordered one of his family's private drivers to take her to that address.

Once at the company, she couldn't see Axel because she didn't make an appointment. In addition, the receptionist there said that Axel had not returned from England, which meant that the news about Axel having come to America had not been spread. Or was her husband deliberately hiding his arrival? If that was the case, how could she meet Axel?

"Chleora," suddenly someone called out her name.

Chleo promptly turned her head excitedly, thinking it was her husband who was calling her. But it turns out... Alexis was the one who called her.
