Hearing all of that, I asked Elina about their citizenship. On how to obtain one as I do want to open a shop and sell my leveling service. But even if I change my mind on opening one, I think that I must get one either way.
As there's a lot of things that I couldn't do if I didn't have citizenship...
"Elina? How do I get citizenship?"
"To earn one, all you need is 5000 gold coins and fill up the paperwork needed. With all of that done, you will be given a house in the lower quarters in your name... that's all."
"What!? 5000 Gold Coins... are you kidding me?" I said that as I can't believe how expensive it would be to get citizenship here.
"I know it sounds a lot but there's a reason for that. As you will be getting a house as well so that's why it's expensive."
"Couldn't I just get the citizenship only and not the house... because what I want-"
"You can't do that, Yei... This is a one package deal so you can't just pick what you want. Besides, the reason why they gave you a house was for you to live in this town as a citizen..." Elina said that.
To think that it's going to become much of a problem... If this town had this kind of requirement, the other town surely had the same rules as this one. This world truly made things complicated... but again this might be the way it was for many years already.
I'm the only one that finds all of this troubling as I come from another world... So their customs here might seem different from mine and I should have known that already. Maybe because I'm a little stupid in how real life works as I always play games all of the time... rarely go out to the real world.
"Okay then, so how do I get 5000 gold coins? I am not that rich and barely have money with me." I said that towards Elina.
"Well, you could be an adventurer for a while. Because with your level, I'm sure you could take up a high-level quest that pays a lot of gold coins."
"That's a good suggestion-"
Before I finish my sentence, I then realize something... If the citizenship requires me to pay, then the adventurer exam might be the same as well.
"Elina? Do I need to pay for the adventurer exam too..."
"Yes, it's necessary to pay but it wasn't much like citizenship. I think it's around 50 Gold Coins per exam... if you pass all, there's no need for you to repeat it."
I guess it's right... Indeed there's payment after all. It seems like all of the official things do require people to pay.
"I see but still where would I get that amount of money, there's no way I could take a quest at the moment as I didn't even take the adventurer exam yet," I said worriedly.
"Do not worry, I could lend you the 50 gold coins," Elina said with a smile.
It was good for Elina to think that but I don't think that I should be receiving it. I feel embarrassed to receive something without doing anything for it.
I do know that Elina was trying to be nice to me, as she probably had thought of me as one of her friends already. But I think it would be better if I earned the 50 gold coins on my own, as I am not a person that would like to just get people's sympathy.
"There's no need for that, Elina. I'm sure I could earn that by doing some stuff... besides it's not good for me to just get your coins without doing anything."
Elina went silent for a bit as it seemed like she was thinking about something in her mind. After a few minutes... she finally utters some words towards me.
"If that is the case, how about I ask Tim to give 50 gold coins or more as a reward for obtaining the Flower of Eve... I'm sure that he would gladly do that as you do help him big time."
"Are you sure that Tim would give me that as a reward?"
"If he doesn't... I will just have to knock his head but jokes aside. I doubt that he would refuse as I'm sure he would do that even if I don't ask him at all. He's the type of a person that would show his gratitude towards the person that had been nice to him."
"Well, I guess the only way to know that was to see what Tim will do after getting the Flower of Eve."
"Don't worry about it... I know Tim so there's no way he refuses to give you a reward of some sort." Elina said that.
With that citizenship requirement, all of this turns out to be a lot of hassle. But despite all of the obstacles, I will stick with my dream for now... which was to open my leveling service shop.
I then remember the first time I started selling my service in Chronicle Legacy, my parents were outraged by my decision to quit my current job and pursue that kind of thing. But I didn't let it chase away what I wanted to do...
So I suppose this is kinda similar to what I already experienced before.
...
As both of us still discuss this issue about what's the benefit of being a citizen here.
*Tak!*
It was the sound of the door being closed... Does that mean there's someone entering the house? Who might it be?
Elina looks rather worried all of a sudden as she then gets close to me and whispers into my ear.
"Remember the thing I told you earlier? Please don't talk about Auslosha as my mother would rant about that all night... you would not get any sleep if you decided to do that." Elina said.
