Chapter 7 - A Glance with the Divine.

Ruins, ruins and more ruins, oh look a skeleton, is that a sword? No just a broken plank of wood, sigh.

Honestly, I'm beyond bored of this place by now; I just feel like I'm stuck in a game with repeating corridors or some lazy rouge-like with a tiny amount of assets and way too much map space, everything here is so damn worn down I can barely tell the difference between a fence and a house and all the valuables seem to be long worn and useless or something has taken them.

I haven't seen any humans or anything, but I doubt anyone would want to come to this dreary place anyway, unless they had a perchance for bone collecting, as for other life? I mean I guess you can call skeletons that move life, ever since my encounter with Mr. Soldier Skeleton I've come across a good handful more of them but most of them just ran at me with their bare hands and were fairly weak, at most some picked up some long plank of wood but even then the sword I picked up made short work of them, I haven't really seen anything other than bones; I guess that pig was an exception since it seemed to love bones it probably sensed this place from miles away like it was a treasure trove.

Anyway, I have managed to level up a couple more times making myself level 11, I made use of my points dropping them to equalise some of my stats, of course I've been eating the cores of whatever I defeated along the way, getting 3 strength, 6 mana, 1 vitality along the way due to their weak levels however it wasn't too long before I had a problem.

[Mana Core Consumed]

[Calculating…]

[Mana distributed, Mana and Health recovered, Core too weak to gain stats]

Yeah, unfortunately I can't just gorge on weak monsters and keep growing, seems the weak amounts of mana in their cores can't give me anything other than a refresh of mana and health.

Since I'm 11 now, I think maybe I can at most get something from a monster 5 levels or so below and anything further gives me nothing? Most skeletons I've encountered are in the range of level 3-6, I'm guessing the captain was in the double digits with how many stats it gave me.

I'm still much weaker than I was when I was alive, I was definitely stronger than a half-baked adventurer back then due to all the skills and stats, I was around late 30's and easily had stats in the 30's with some pushing 40's due to regular training.

As for skills, Crushing Strike was easy to re-learn through its simplicity, but I feel like my body has completely forgotten the other forms I had, probably because I lost my muscle memory it feels like I'm completely different, oh well just have to keep plugging along, I guess.

My stats look like this currently –

[ Name – Seth

Race – Undead [Skeleton (Human)]

Level – 11 (0 points)

Health – 100% Mana – 100%

Current Status - Normal

Titles: None

Stats:

Strength – 17 Perception - 10

Intelligence – 20 Vitality - 12

Agility – 15 Stamina - 23

Dexterity – 10 Mana – 58]

I wouldn't say I'm doing too bad overall, but man I really want to reach somewhere already I think it's been about 3 or 4 days since I woke up and all I've been doing is walking and fighting, it's good my stamina is decent otherwise I would have probably been a sitting duck multiple times, though I think me being undead helps that, I definitely don't get as tired as easily as I did when I was human.

Sooner or later, I think I need to start singing or something to keep my sanity, this monotonous grind and lack of human interacting isn't exactly doing wonders on me, how long is this god-damned ravine?!

Hmm, huh? Just as I say that I think I see something interesting!

Though it is beyond crumbled I can still kind of see its shape, its one of the churches that was in the capital, I think I was situated on the northern side not too far away from the royal castle so that's a good sign, there's got to be some good stuff there at the castle and maybe a way out.

Let's see here, great the door is made of some metal and stuck hard, will kicking it budge it?

Ow, no

[Health – 97%]

Really? Am I that fragile?

Maybe there's another way it that doesn't look like it's going to budge-

-And there it is! Back door ahoy, I may not be a priest but who cares right now, in we go!

Cough, cough, it's dusty in here! What? I don't have lungs or a throat to cough? Let me pretend won't you!

The hallways are pretty collapsed in, yeah can't get in that room it's basically a wall now, in here… not much, worn down and broken beyond belief furniture, doesn't look like there's much in here as expected of a priest.

Well guess I'll just head to the main hall, just gotta' push these big ass doors open~

*Crack*

Or break them, doesn't matter either way they're already done for.

Oh, well this is what I pretty much expected, that's a LOT of bones, probably praying for a miracle before it all went to shit.

Probably more than 100 packed in here, and THAT thing stood over there is not what I wanted to see.

[Undead Mage [Skeleton (Human)]

Level – 3 (0 points)

Health – 100% Mana – 100%

Current Status – Normal]

Cmon! You're a priest for Christ's sake! Why are you undead!

And now he's chanting, great, and there goes a fireball, you're not good at this are you?

And- stab! Dead, simple as, no levels here, no point consuming the core either, I don't know what the cross he's wearing is made of, but I really don't want to touch it.

Now that that's done, well lookie' here it's as good as new, looks like these Deity Statues really are made of something else!

I don't know if I'll get anything for getting a status update done but I might as well give it a go, while it won't give me stats or something maybe I'll get a mission given to me! A title would be nice as well, since they can only be given by the gods.

Ahh, it feels like its been so long since I did this, can I even remember the correct posture? Let's see-

-Yep that's it the old kneel and head bowed, I can feel the light! Wait this won't hurt me because I'm undead right?

["How surprising"]

Uh, It spoke?

["I don't know whether to say you're lucky or unfortunate young one, alive but in that state… I really wonder how it happened"]

It's speaking?!

["Yes it's speaking, I mean I'm speaking through it, haven't you heard about this happening before?"]

Uhm not really? Even when I got a title before it was just the usual system messages.

["Quite an ignorant one then I guess, we usually only contact those important for us but right now… well...]

Well… what?

["Quiet, I'm thinking."]

Ugh, this is not how I pictured first contact going for me.

Still, why would I get through to them this easily? Is it because of my situation?

["No point speculating child, I've decided, here take this"]

[Title obtained: Missionary]

A what? Why? You don't want me to go around spouting like a madman about the word of god or something do you?

["If I told you, you'd have to do that but gods no; You should just see the world]

See the world? Why would you give me a title for that reason?

["If I told you there'd be no point to it, just do whatever you want honestly"]

Seems rather lax for a holy mission of some sort…

["Oh stop complaining! just take a look I'm sure you'll like the effects]

Umm, okay-

[Title – Missionary

Effect – Grant's access to spirit magic]

What? What's spirit magic?

["You don't know that? Well I guess to put it simply, its useful for interacting with the spirits of others and by extension the world of spirits, not that you'd understand that either but I don't feel like telling you anymore since I'd be helping too much"]

Well thanks, I guess. Can't be bad to have another tool under my belt even if I can't use it now.

["That's the spirit, anyway toodle-oo I have to be places"]

Wait- and he's gone, well I've had enough of bowing for a day so I guess I'll go try figure out what the hell spirit magic is.

Also, "See the world"? I mean I was going to anyway, but a divine mission telling me to do so? I know from that old soldier's memory that stuff happened up there, bad stuff, but is it still like that? Is there anything left? Ahh more questions with no answers yet, same goal as always I guess; Get the hell out of this ravine!
