Chapter 14 - Power of Headphones

Lyrica's magic ability, just like the voice said, manifested in a form of two things that gave the girl peace of mind. A headphone that isolated Lyrica from the surrounding troubles in the world, with numerous functions similar to an online role-playing game that helped her forget all her troubles.

"Knowing you, it shouldn't be hard for you to decipher the information inside your character window."

"Absolutely," Lyrica replied to the voice with a nod.

Without further ado, Lyrica and the voice get down to business, studying the young girl's character window.

First was the Listener. It referred to Lyrica as the player or its magic user.

The level showed how much her magic has grown. Currently, Lyrica's magic level is at zero, which is not a surprise, considering she just arrived in Alteria.

HP referred to her health points shown in a percentage. And according to her HP, Lyrica is in full health.

MP referred to Lyrica's max mana pool. So far, the girl only has 20 max mana. But the voice reassured Lyrica that her max mana will increase.

After that, the two moved on from the MP to Lyrica's dB Limit.

"I'm not sure about this one, but I have a hunch that it refers to something else other than sound."

"Indeed." The voice affirmed Lyrica's hunch. "It is not a measure or level of a sound. Rather, it's a measure of magic power."

The dB Limit indicates how much magic power her body can handle. The higher the dB Limit Lyrica has, the more powerful magic abilities she can use without causing harm to herself. The dB Limit doesn't restrict her from using a decibel beyond the limit.

Lyrica's dB Limit is at zero, but just like her MP, the voice assured her that the dB Limit will increase.

"Now then, let's move on to your Statistics."

The Statistics show five unique stats. Strength, Durability, Agility, Stamina, and Senses. And below them showed the stat points.

"I want to ask, do you feel like you're stronger, tougher, agile, energetic, or sharper than usual?"

"Now that you mentioned it..."

Lyrica thought it was strange, but after the voice pointed it out, Lyrica did feel stronger, tougher, agile, energetic, and sharper than before her magic first manifested.

"Is it because of the five stats?"

"Correct."

Following her reply, the voice revealed that all five stats have permanently increased Lyrica's overall strength, her ability to withstand received damage and to move nimbly with speed and with ease, as well as the stamina to last in prolonged activities and her five senses.

"So far, each stat only has 10 points. But fret not, because you'll be able to increase every single one of them using stat points."

Lyrica hovered her eyes down to the Available Stat Points, containing zero statistic points.

"Seems like it."

Moving forward, the voice had Lyrica shift her attention to the Playlist.

"Playlist... I assume this is my skill tree?"

"Indeed!"

And just like what Lyrica suspected, Playable Music referred to her active skills or magic that can be used or played. Meanwhile, the Background Music referred to her passive skills or magic abilities that have an ongoing effect.

"Currently, you only have Jazz Harmony as your music or ability." Said the voice to Lyrica. "But over time, you'll be able to unlock and play more music."

"You don't say..."

"That aside, can you open the music info of Jazz Harmony for me? The same way you did before."

Lyrica stared closely at Jazz Harmony with serious eyes, just like what she did before. After doing so, the same hologram image containing information about Jazz Harmony appeared.

"Back then, I wasn't able to read and process everything inside my head in time."

"Well, why don't you give it a read now?"

Lyrica did just that.

[Music Info: Jazz Harmony]

Jazz Harmony increases all stats and relaxes the Listener's mind and body. Erasing exhaustion, mental fatigue, and pain from the damages received for 3 Minutes.

Lv. --

MP Cost: --

Effects:

> Increases STR, DU, AGI, and SEN by +5 in every 10dB used, while STAM gains +10 in every 10dB used.

> Reduces exhaustion, mental fatigue, and pain by 20% in every 20dB used (Max: 100%).

Drawback:

> Once Jazz Harmony ends, all bonus stats will disappear.

> Exhaustion, mental fatigue, and pain will return to the Listener.

> For every 20dB used on Jazz Harmony, exhaustion, mental fatigue, and pain will be amplified by 20% (Max: 100%).

As Lyrica finished reading everything about Jazz Harmony, it made her recall the moment she saw the increased points in each of the five stats.

Lyrica learned that the dB she used back then was at 100dB. And because she used 100dB, the exhaustion, mental fatigue, and pain she had were amplified by 100%.

It all returned twofold.

Lyrica swallowed a mouthful of air, a drop of sweat slid through her cheek as her face turned gray.

She came to a realization that even if her magic ability manifested out of her desire to live in peace and without trouble, her power could bring herself trouble if she's not careful.

'From now on, I'll be more careful.'

"As you can see, Jazz Harmony has incredible effects that are beneficial to you. However, it also has a downside." The voice stated. "You will find this same concept in other music in the future. I suggest you give them all a thorough read before using."

"I intend to."

Lyrica replied with a stern face. Determined not to let the same thing with the slimes from happening again.

"Moving on, your stats and MP are all at their lowest, while your dB Limit is at zero." The voice mouthed. "But that's to be expected. After all, your magic ability is still a baby, and is in an early stage of growth."

"It was kinda obvious, but yeah."

"As its user, as its bearer, it's your responsibility to give your power a fine upbringing."

"So what you're saying is..."

Lyrica's charcoal eyes skimmed through the entire character window, down to its lowest section, where the Acquired EXP, Required EXP, and the Total EXP Earned are all on display.

"... I have to level up for my magic ability to grow."

"Correct!"
