Fang Bai was again trapped in one of those nightmares. He wanted to run, he wanted to escape from the place immediately. But his hands and feet felt like they were bound, as always.
Today's nightmare was a very different kind of nightmare from the one he was used to. It looked very real, so real that he felt a chill down his spine.
"So he's the one. Hmm… What is he called? Lei?" In this dream, Fang Bai was bound to a chair as he looked at that familiar woman who sat leisurely in front of him. Everything around them was dark but both of them could see each other clearly.
Fang Bai's heartbeat increased when he heard Lei's name. He ignored the woman with a poker face. That woman sat in front of him, smiling meaningfully as she looked straight into his eyes, with a deep craze.
"What if I do him what I did to you elder brother yesterday?" She said, amused at his reaction. Fang Bai's breathing increased as he remembered yesterday's nightmare. He still felt his heartbeat accelerate whenever he remembered it.
Steeling himself, Fang Bai spoke courageously, "You can't do anything to him, you are just a puny nightmare. You run away whenever he comes. Heh, trying to scare me."
Fang Bai knew everything was just a nightmare and he wanted to close his eyes and just ignore everything. But his eyes were also not in his control. He was forced to look at everything clearly. That woman's smile froze for a moment before it turned more evil.
"You seem to have already forgotten how Fang Junjie took the poison and then came to kill you with his own hands. Dreams are just a manifestation of reality, Fang Bai. You must really think this about his elder brother."
Fang Bai's chest heaved as he tried his best to ignore all the words of this woman. He knew best how much he loved his elder brother. No-one else could impose their mental suggestions on him. Many of Fang Junjie's competitors tried their best to create a rift between them to damage Junjie's mental state. They obviously failed, but those thoughts themselves manifested into this woman and tortured him mentally again and again.
"If I knew you and Fang Junjie were gay, I should have killed you already in my womb." That woman spat at him with a disgusted look." Fang Bai just clenched his fist and kept ignoring.
"Not how will it feel when I burn that Lei in front of your eyes? He is such a weak link in your mind. Will he hate you when he suffers? Maybe he will also hate you and try to kill you like Junjie. After all, you are such a fake piece of shit. Just like your father." That woman laughed sinisterly at him, her eyes burning red with hatred. Her fake smile itself gave him nightmares.
"You can't harm him at all. You aren't even real. Stop bluffing." Fang Bai snickered with ridicule.
"But I live in your mind." The woman smirked and waved her hand.
Fang Bai was again going to ridicule her when all the color drained off his face when he heard the next voice.
"Where am I? Bai? Is it you, Bai? I can't see you." This familiar voice, he remembered it all very well - Lei's voice. It came from the corner of the space, just like he remembered as always. He only heard this voice once, but he had memorized and saved it like a treasure in his mind. It was his only solace whenever he was truly worn out and just wanted to quit. This voice was his fuel.
Fang Bai tried his best to move from his position but he was tightly bound. He was like a statue in place.
"Lei, it's me! Quickly run away from here!" Fang Bai tried his best to shout out loud, but no voice came out of his mouth, as if he was lip-syncing. Fang Bai's pupils dilated when he realized he couldn't do anything.
"Hello, are you Lei?" To Fang Bai's horror, the woman in front of him began to talk to Lei. He increased his struggle and almost madly began to shake himself. But the woman just waved her hands and the restraints increased, this time giving him pain for any struggle he made. This pain was so real that Fang Bai almost mistook everything for reality.
The voice paused for a few seconds, when a hesitant voice came. "Yes… Who are you?"
"I am Xiao-Bai's… mother." The woman spoke as she smiled at Fang Bai, who felt disgusted when he heard the familiar endearment in the woman's poisonous voice.
"Oh…" The voice was still doubtful.
"Don't worry, Xiao-Bai specially gave me permission to talk to you. He asked me to tell you that he doesn't want to meet you again."
Fang Bai's eyes widened. He couldn't believe what he was hearing.
"Why?" Lei's voice was low, he seemed sad and heartbroken. Fang Bai shook his head madly. He strained his throat to let out a word but no sound came out at all.
"Because Fang Bai is busy in his life. Your presence annoys him to no end." That woman spoke with such a sweet voice, but each word she spoke poked Fang Bai's sensitive points. He felt like he was going crazy.
"...Really?" Lei seemed to have lost his words. One word seemed to use a lot of energy that his voice came out trembling. Silent tears streamed out of Fang Bai's eyes. He still shook his head in denial despite knowing Lei couldn't see him at all.
"Yeah, at this moment, he is so busy with his life. He just wants to take a burden off himself. I also know the method to break the mind link. You can rest assured and leave, I will handle the issues on Xiao-Bai's side." The woman's voice was filled with pity. She ignored Fang Bai's eyes which were glaring at her with pure hatred.
"Okay, I'll leave…" These were all the words that Lei said. Fang Bai had lost his ability to react as he sat numbly and let the words burn into his heart.
Suddenly a sharp pain came in Fang Bai's head and a burning sensation spread all around his skull. The woman was gone, Lei was gone, and he was now standing alone in a black space, clutching his head. The pain was so real that Fang Bai knew something was happening in his head. A fear spread through his whole body, paralyzing him again.
Fang Bai had a small belief in his mind that everything was just a dream and he would get back to normal when he woke up, but the real panic came when he actually felt the pain in his brain. So unbearable…
His heart burned as he remembered all the conversation. Was Lei really leaving him? Was the only source of sunlight in his dark world leaving him?
A sense of hopelessness engulfed him. Fang Bai just silently laid on the bed, feeling the pain in his head increasing with time. Few stray tears escaped from the corners of his closed eyes. He couldn't handle anymore of this.
He wished that this pain would take his life…
Unknown to Fang Bai, the dragon mark on his chest started glowing in a blue color. The light slowly increased with time, until it completely illuminated the whole dark room despite being covered with a shirt.
*
It was dark blue everywhere to no end. Huge waves of water flowed chaotically. A huge wave suddenly formed in the middle of the ocean and a black head showed out of the ocean. The creature's eyes glowed blue, and were filled with infinite anger. They seemed to contain lightning themselves.
A deep rumble sound filled with anger resounded in the whole ocean.
"WHO HARMED MY MATE?!"
Waves started getting more chaotic as if in the midst of some storm. The nearby creatures swam away, their instincts telling them of huge danger.
