Chapter 9 - A Stranger (The Café pt.3)

Zane's icy stare fell on David's confused eyes. Her lips were parted, and her mind still trying to figure out how Zane's aura became so cold suddenly, and how he threw 20,000 dollars on the face of Ora.

The 100 dollar notes slowly fell on the ground, making Ora's face visible. Ora's eyes were wide as she gaped. Her mind still processing the information that Zane Sinclair, the mysterious Scholarship Student who was also known as the heartbreaker prince because of his indifferent attitude, threw money at her face.

Soorin was swooning over Zane's perfectly symmetrical face. Although she had her hands covering her mouth, and widened eyes, it seemed like she was shocked because of the money-throwing on her best friend's face, but deep down she was shocked because of Zane talking with her bestie. Whether it was an insult or a rude talk, she didn't care. Brother O' Brother, It's Zane Sinclair who talked with her bestie!

Zane again glanced at Ora before taking the tray from David's hand and placed it on the counter beside her. He then grabbed David's hand and dragged her to their seats. All the time, his gaze was fierce, as if it's going to murder someone.

After sometime, the two girls gathered all the money and went away. 'How shameless' David gritted her teeth as sipped some coffee from the straw.

All the time, Zane said nothing. He was sitting right there, and it fixed his gaze on the window beside him. A while ago the server came and served their foods. David already munched the half of the macrons and finished the half of her coffee. As for Zane- He already finished his coffee.

Seeing Zane dozed off, David intentionally slurped her coffee loudly to grab his attention. She just remembered the reason for coming here- he said he'll explain the 'Girlfriend' Situation.

After hearing David's loud slurping, He faced her. He adjusted his position as their eyes met.

"Zane, I think you need to explain me something," David said as she realized his gaze is no longer cold nor fierce.

"Oh yes," He responded before he took a macron from the bowl, "I think I did a terrible mistake," Zane removed his eyes from her.

"What do you mean by that?"

"I called you my girlfriend, to save you. But I don't know what will happen to me now." He placed is palm on his face, slight frustration can be seen forming on his face, "You know it takes only a few dumb brains and some seconds for a rumor to spread like a bonfire."

"Oh my god, now I get it. Why did you even do that? You didn't have to…" a small gasp escaped from David's mouth after she understood what Zane was trying to tell her.

"What do you think? What could I've done then? Should I've just let you go outside and scream and then let them think that I am a thief and a girl is living in a boy's dorm? Or worse... they could've thought that, I was a rapist? Or could've slut-shamed you." Zane said as he knitted his brows and pinched his nose bridge,

David's jaw fell as she heard Zane. Gosh, so much could've happened if he didn't scream that David was his girlfriend. He practically…. saved her.

"Hey, Can you tell me why are you even here? Are these happening just because of your name? I don't think so." Zane asked as he looked at David again.

"I still don't know….It was my mom who was to find me a dorm in Landford. But it seems like her personal assistant, Mr Dan messed up all of it." Words escaped her mouth while she lowered her gaze. She was still so confused and shocked of all of the things happening in her life, especially the sudden appearance of Zane Sinclair in her life left her speechless and amused.

"So, how long do you plan to stay here? You know, this place is not safe for you, first. And second, now everyone knows the face of the girlfriend of Zane, I don't think you can escape from the baseless rumors," He paused, "And I can't hide from them either."

"You're right. And I think I will move out as soon as possible. Though, mom said it will be very difficult for me to move out of the boy's dormitory now." She replied. David took the last macron from the bowl and silently munched it.

"It will be for the best if you leave soon. And don't worry, I will help you, so ask me anything."

The server approached to them and placed the bill on their table. Zane took out his wallet before placing the cash on the bill.

"Keep the change." Zane stood up as he saw the waitress walking away from them. He again turned his head towards David. "Let's go now. I will talk about this with the Manager, I believe that we will be out of this sticky situation soon." he said as he moved his legs and started walking. However, David was still sitting on her chair.

"Why are you helping me? You can just tell everyone everything, and kick me out of the dorm easily without taking this headache on your head. Why are you helping a stranger like me?" David tugged her fingers inside Zane's coat while he was about to pass their two-person table, making him stop instantly.

"Because saving an innocent woman's reputation was always my priority," Zane paused, "Although you're a stranger, I will do my best to save your reputation." He flashed his big, beautiful smile before walking away. His coldness from before was nowhere to be seen.
