I put on a poker face as I entered the building, carrying the lunch I made for Harvey. The female workers are looking at me with judgement, snarling.
Is it because of what I'm wearing today? Or the fact that Harvey is only mine?
I pass cubicle by cubicle and hear all of their comments. They don't affect me anymore but they do give me more reasons to dress like I would today.
"She's sluttier than usual!"
"I bet she'll be asking boss for money"
"Her boobs are about to pop out"
"Her skirt is shorter than yesterday"
"Will it kill her to wear a shirt?"
Ahh the comments are making me more confident.
I knock on Harvey's office door and held the container tightly in my hand. "Come in."
I open the door to see Harvey talking to someone. He was tall and had brown hair, wearing a navy suit. Another investor?
"I'll put your lunch here." I said.
I placed the container on a table and I turn to look at Harvey when the other person turned to look at me.
I narrowed my eyes at him when he looked at me with distastefulness.
"I'll be back in a sec." I said as I left the office. I stuck my ears to the door as they talk.
"Harvey...who was that?"
"My wife, Caroline."
"You gotta divorce her, man. She's a gold digger. She's with you for your money."
"She's not...she loved me before I told her-"
"Do you see how she dresses? Do you even think about how many guys she screwed with? Heck, she might be hooking up with one of your employees right now."
"What else?"
"What?"
"What else do you have to say?"
"Find a conservative. You know, a woman who looks respectable and gentle. Someone opposite to her."
A tear silently fell to the floor. I held in a sob and stood up.
I'm going out for today.
Thoughts clouded my mind as I entered the bar. I rented a whole room for the whole day.
Drink after drink. Shot after shot.
It was bitter. I'm not a drinker. I don't really drink but today, I feel like I deserve a bottle or two.
"Find...a...conservative?" I chuckle. "conservative, my ass."
I take another beer bottle and chug it down.
I look at the clock and it was already 10pm
I've been drinking for hours...but I want to keep going. I want the alcohol to wash away my sorrow. I won't stop until I don't feel anymore pain in my heart.
I could hear banging on the door. I look up and it was knocked over now. A worried looking Harvey stood there and rushed towards me.
He looked disappointed when he saw all the bottle of wine and beer around me.
"You shouldn't be drinking all by yourself..." is the only thing he said.
Harvey lifted me up in his arms.
" Thanks for guarding the door." he said to the man outside the room.
The bouncer nodded. "I had to. She's your wife. Other men wouldn't do the same."
"Siren call is next week. There's something we all need to talk about."
"Yes, Destiny."
What? What is it?
