Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

The meteor wasn't very hard to crack open considering Derrick broke a piece off accidentally. Even so, it was really tough on the inside. Getting through the outside was easy but we spent days getting the inside of the damn rock to crack.

"Damn! I thought we would have opened it by now!" I said as I wiped the sweat from my forehead.

The meteor was only big enough for a few people to work on so everyone has been taking turns trying to break it.

"Me too. By the way, where'd the princess go?" Derrick asked

"Soprano? She took a sample of the outside layer and went into the building. I think there's a small lab she uses back there" I said

"Man! She gets to stay inside and play with rocks while we do all the hard work!"

I laughed "We've been going at this for three days and four hours and haven't even made a dent! We're the ones playing with rocks."

"Get back to work! No time for talking!" Major yelled

I glared at her but she didn't notice since she went back to hammering the meteor. She's been the one who's worked the hardest at breaking it.

I lowered my pickaxe and laid my head on the meteor to rest.

"Taking a break?" Derrick asked as he did the same next to me.

I nodded.

"Hey…" Derrick bumped his head against mine

Too close!

"At least we'll know if aliens really do exist" he said

"Ehh...that's true" I laughed

His dark green eyes stared intensely into my light blue ones.

"What?" I asked

"You have a nice smile" is all he said before he went back to work

I have a whaaa?! I froze as my face got really warm. My heart started beating fast. Must be the flu, I decided. It can't be anything other than that! Did the meteor light just get brighter?

CRACK!

My head sunk into the rock.

"Kota!" Derrick yelled as he grabbed me and pulled me away from the meteor.

He held me away from the meteor as it broke in half. What was inside surprised everyone.

"What the hell just happened?" Major asked

She held her pickaxe in the air that she was going to bring it down to hit the meteor. I guess she didn't hit the final blow.

"We're not sure! The rock just lit up before it opened up. It doesn't look like anyone actually cracked it though. Look!" The Major's partner said

The crack where the meteor had split was perfectly smooth and in a straight line across. It didn't look natural.

"Other than that...what the hell just fell out?" Major asked

On top of the meteor was a large sword and right in front of it was a shield. At the bottom were weapons. Some I recognize and others I had no idea what they were. A few of the weapons fell towards the ground.

"Are these...aliens?" Someone asked

The person next to them smack them across the head "You idiot! Do those look like aliens?" They asked

Major looked down at one of the weapons. She was about to reach down to pick one of them up when Soprano ran out from the building.

"I heard that you cracked the meteor open!" She yelled

Major stood up and walked over to her. "We have but you will need to see first hand on what's inside"

Soprano nodded and walked over to the meteor where the weapons layed.

"What is…"

"That's what I wanted to know" Major said

"I should tell you what I found out from the sample I have been looking at"

Soprano and the Major went inside to talk in private.

Derrick nudged me and said "Hey! Since they're not here, why don't we get a closer look"

"Nope! Count me out" I shook my head

"Oh come on! You're no fun" he pouted

"Gal! Don't touch that!" A girl yelled

We looked back at the meteor where Gal was kneeling down on the floor. He held his hand out as if he was going to touch one of the weapons. He looked back at her and said "Dare me to touch it?"

"Hell no!" Vanessa yelled as she stomped over to him.

Gal smirked "I think that sounded like a challenge!"

"Stop!" Everyone yelled at him but it was no use.

He grabbed the small dagger and waved it around "This is nothing! Y'all are just-"

He froze. A white light flowed from the dagger into his arm. "Gah! Get it off!"

He tried flinging the dagger away but it looked like it was molted into his skin.

"What's going on?!" Major yelled as she ran out the building.

"Gal grabbed one of the daggers!" Vanessa yelled as she tried ripping the dagger away from Gal's hands "It won't come off. It's stuck to his skin!"

"ARRGG!" Gall yelled in pain as the light grew to the top of his elbow.

The dagger which was once made from metal now looks like it's made from his skin.

"I-I can feel it! It's a part of me!" Gal yelled

"Cut the damn hand off!" Soprano yelled

"No!" Gal yelled

Vanessa grabbed the pickaxe next to Gal which he dropped and swung it down on Gal's hand. The hand which now laid on the ground morphed into the shape of the dagger covered in blood.

Gall yelled "I can still feel it! It-"

CRACK CRACK

His arm bent back and forth in ways arms are not supposed to go.

"Cut the whole arm off! Damn it" Major yelled

"No!" Gal yelled and held his arm up. It was cracking and changing shape right in front of our eyes.

Vanessa swung the pickaxe onto his shoulder but stopped by Gal's arm.

CLANK

We all hear it. No. We saw it.

Gal's arm was in the shape of the dagger that he once held. The hand that laid on the ground had regrown on Gal's arm, as if it had never been cut off.

Vanessa swung the pickaxe back down on Gal but again he blocked it.

"Ha...hahahaha!" Gal laughed "I...I have a sword as a hand!"

Vanessa who was in tears swung the ax down again but Gal swung the arm dagger up again. Instead of simply blocking the axe, he broke it and it went right into Vanessa's neck.

Everyone went silent. Not a single peep other than Vanessa who held her hand up to her neck as she coughed up blood. "H...lp"

We snapped out of our shock and took her to the hospital inside the building. The rest of us surrounded Gal who was still frozen in shock.

We pushed him to the ground, careful not to touch the other weapons on the ground.

"What now? How do we disarm someone with a built in dagger?" I asked

"Hold on. Is he breathing?" Someone asked

We picked him up and blood gushed out from his mouth, eyes, and ears.

Derrick held his fingers up to his neck to check his pulse. He pulled away and shook his head.

He's dead.
