Earlier that morning Clair woke up with a slight smile on her face. She had the most wonderful dream last night. In her dream, she had gotten married to her fiancé by the beach and it was very fun. The feeling was good.
She turned to the man sleeping next to her on the bed. She smiled as she looked at his face. She began re-living her dream again as if wishing for him to get up and make it come true.
It wouldn't take long for that dream to come true since they were already engaged. She smiled and pushed herself to get up but a hand hooked around her waist pulling her back.
"Just a few more seconds." Her fiancé's sleepy voice sounded. He held her tighter.
"I have to go to work and you know the hospital don't take it easy on us." She said and pried his hands off. She stood up and patted his shoulder. "I'll be back in time for dinner."
"You're working the whole day?" Bobby sat up with a frown on his face. "When do you get a day off?"
Clair clicked her tongue. "I got a day off yesterday and the day before that."
"Oh," Bobby muttered in realisation.
"I'll be back for the night." She said and leaned in closer to kiss his lips. The kiss dragged on longer than she anticipated. She didn't have the heart to push him away so she gave in. she opened her mouth and accepted his tongue which tangled with her own as the kiss became heated.
He tactfully pulled her into the bed.
….
Clair rushed to the door after she ate. She was late by ten minutes and the drive to the hospital will add to that. She could only blame herself slightly.
She took a cab and arrived at Dwayne's Medical Centre where she worked as a nurse. She rushed in and scanned her ID to indicate that she did come to the hospital.
In her haste, she bumped into the boss. Donald Dwayne!
She gulped and quickly greeted, "good morning Dr Dwayne."
Donald smiled slightly and he patted her shoulder gently. "It's alright. You look flustered. Did you just arrive?"
She hesitated but nodded.
"You look really pretty with your hair in a messy state like this." He said pointing at her hair with his chin.
Clair hadn't had the time to carefully look at herself in the mirror. She quickly smoothed her hair with an awkward move. Donald helped her pull a strand of hair behind her ear with a wide smile plastered on his face.
He said, "Clair, have I ever told you that you have the most amazing body? Your figure suits you perfectly."
Despite having worked with her during some minor surgeries, it actually took him this long to discover that she was really pretty. He praised himself inwardly though he knew that his father would kill him if he ever got to discover that he was hitting on the hospital employers.
Not that he hadn't done it before but the old man just didn't know of it.
Clair looked down at herself and said, "Thanks, I guess."
"Hey, are you free in the afternoon? I don't have any major appointments." Donald asked.
Clair shook her head, "I still have a lot to do and I don't know what tasks I will be assigned to do today."
"Not a problem. I can make another nurse take your place. I want you to have lunch with me."
Clair bit her lips. She was starting to feel uncomfortable around him. She shook her head to indicate that she had no intention of going out with him. She knew very well what it meant to go out with him and how it would end.
Even if nothing happened but the news itself would be too damaging to her reputation.
"Scratch that," Donald pinched his cheek, "I want to date you."
"Sorry Dr Dwayne but I have someone I'm engaged to and I really love him." She said with a resolute face.
Donald fell silent for a while before asking seriously, "maybe if I kill him then you'll accept my offer?"
"What?"
"It's settled. I'll kill the fucker." Donald waved at her and left her with a bewildered expression as she stared back at him.
He went to his office but on his way he bumped into Mercy—the matron.
"What's wrong with your face?" Mercy asked turning his face so she could see it better. It clearly showed five fingers plastered across his cheek. It was a little dim but she had keen eyes.
"Nothing that should worry you." he pulled her arm away.
"I see," Mercy nodded, "but get it treated to prevent scaring."
Donald nodded and walked past her but she called him and added, "One more thing, always ask for a lady's permission first."
Donald could only stare at her back as she walked towards the elevator. He shook his head and went to his office. He found his schedule and looked through it. He was scheduled for a surgery by 11.
He rested his back on his chair and fell into deep thought.
….
After the surgery, the rest of the day went by uneventfully. It was a little boring at the hospital today. Priscilla had informed him that she would go straight to the military HQ and then work deep into the night in the medical lab.
Donald stood up and stretched his body. It was already 6p.m. he grabbed his phone and send a text and got a reply shortly after. He nodded with a smile and took his things and headed out.
He arrived at the parking lot and got into his car. He was going to meet a few friends and have a drink with them at a bar.
It took him a bit of time to arrive at the bar because of the terrible traffic. He went in and spotted his friends at their usual table.
"You decided to join us today after bailing on us last night?" one tilted his glass to him as he approached.
"I was a bit busy. You know how it is, Ramon." He replied and sat down.
Ramon smirked, "or you found a girl right?"
Donald raised a finger and indicated for him to hold on. He dialled a number and the call was answered after the second ring. Donald waited for a second before saying, "take him out."
