"We are having guests for dinner," grandfather Fletcher announced as he walked into the living room with the help of his walking cane.
After Aiden resigned abruptly, grandfather Fletcher didn't have any other choice but to take over the company again.
As his second grandson is already a top doctor in a military hospital, he didn't have the heart to burden him with the business.
Now, he is waiting for his beloved little princess, his only granddaughter, Ashley to graduate from her college and take over the company.
Although he wants to retire and enjoy his old age, he doesn't have any other choice.
His eldest son is in the military while his daughter in law is also in the military who rarely comes home. So, his grandchildren are not that attached to their parents.
His other son is good for nothing tyrant and it wouldn't be responsible of him to make this son of him as his successor.
"Who are those guests, grandfather?" Felix asked while he stuffed his plate with sweets.
"Danvers siblings," Grandfather Fletcher answered.
Ashley, who was chewing on her watermelon, choked and looked at her grandfather.
"What happened, Ash?" Aiden asked his sister, rubbing her back. She is the apple of his eye.
Like every brother, he pampers his sister and she is the second most important person in his life as the first place will be forever carved for Anna, no matter whether they are on good terms or not.
"Not... nothing" Ashely stammered as she gave a faint smile.
"Have you fought with that Kyle again?" Felix whispered to his little sister.
"No..of course not" Ashley muttered.
"Grandfather, how many people would be coming?" Aiden asked. He just wanted to know if Anna would be coming.
"How can I ask that?" Grandfather Fletcher frowned.
"Their grandfather just died and it looks like the inner circle of their company is in a mess now. They are probably going to ask me for their support" he added.
Aiden nodded his head and finished drinking his soup before going back to his room.
Meanwhile in Danvers Mansion…
"You want me to come as well?" Anna questioned her brother.
"Yes," Kyle answered.
Anna pursed her lips. She had enough turmoil in her heart and she is not ready to meet Aiden again on the very same day.
"Sis, please. I am a little afraid of Grandfather Fletcher and so is Sister Ria. We need you to persuade him" Kyle urged.
"Fine..fine" Anna pouted and took the dress from her brother and walked into her closet.
…
A tear rolled down her cheek as she looked at the reflection of herself while she removed her neck chain.
Her fingers trembled as she gingerly touched the ring which she was carrying with her in the form of a locket.
It was the ring with which Aiden had proposed to her. That was the most beautiful moment of her life which is still livid in her memory.
But who would have thought that their relationship would start crumbling very soon after that day?
Wiping her tears away, Anna placed the ring in the velvet box and locked it in the wardrobe.
The last thing she wants is to let Aiden see it and experience the pain more than what he is already suffering.
On the other side of the city, Aiden removed the watch he was wearing and looked at it with the complex emotions brimming in his eyes.
After staring at it for a while, he placed it back in the box, which has six other watches in it.
This is the watch set Anna gifted him the very next day after he proposed to her. She exhausted all her savings just to custom make these for him. She had prepared the gift a few months prior and was waiting for a perfect time.
That day, she told him that there was nothing more precious to her than him. She smiled and pecked his lips and whispered that these watches would help him to never forget her… not even a second of his life.
But who would have thought that this cheesy line would one day become the salt on his wound, making him remember his heart break whenever he sees it?
However, he couldn't bring himself to discard them and he still wears them everyday despite the fact that he owns the watches that cost ten fold more than these.
The last thing he wants to do is remind her of her words and trouble her heart further more than what she is probably suffering now. After looking at the watches, he gently caressed one of the watches which was broken.
It reminded him of that fateful day.
