Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 Speedy recovery

the nightly interaction with Cale had ended successfully in lightening his mood a bit although I'd contemplated whether to ask of the marks and bruises visible on his face and body I held back the urge as I refrained from asking anymore personal questions, crashing onto my ever so familiar bed that knocked me unconscious in mere seconds I woke up to the same sound of metal clashing with one another.

sweating but holding his own Cale swung his sword at Gilferd with an expression and demeanor that glowed of vigor and determination, watching for a bit I couldn't help but smile at the turn of Cale's character.

stuck within the confines of the cottage I tried all I could to help with any house work Helen was left with but was met with fuming words of anger as Helen scolded me and stressed the fact that I wasn't supposed to be doing anything in the state I was in,overall I was stuck in the spare room for hours on end and only came out for dinner while Helen came in occasionally to help with my recovery thanks to her healing magic.

Helen would converse with me on seemingly random topics and switched them nearly every 2 minutes like a consistent pattern, from our short talks as she healed me I learned alot more about the family that had been so kind to house me for nearly 3 weeks now.For one Gilferds full name was Roswaal Gilferd a name given to him by a caretaker Helen didn't stress over but told me had died 4 years ago, he was an orphan from birth and became a knight at one point for the money and did a fine job in climbing his way to earn enough money to keep himself practically swimming in money for the rest of his life however after an event that Helen didn't dare share with me Gilferd was left stripped of his title and forced to look on to beast hunting for money.

"he was a walking mess when I first met him, barely any money for new clothes or even a place to stay at the time beast hunting was a competitive job and often beginners were met with low level mana beast that only gifted you with enough money to partially feed yourself"

"really and you fancied that?"

I asked teasingly while bending my arm and leg that were now free of the white bandages, the pain was still there but only as little stings and not the the unbearable feeling from before. Thanks to Helen I wasn't littered with horrific scars but instead light faded marks.

"his outward appearance was barely what I fancied but it was his determination in the competitive job of beast hunting that truly grew on me,I almost felt like I was watching him grow"

Helen sighed.

"maternal love interesting, O-Oww"

Helen nudged my recovering arm while pouting at the comment I made.

"for a woman I'm surprised how insensitive you can be"

"don't blame me for not having any intimate relationships"

Helen crossed her arms in a jokingly hurt manner.

HELEN ROSWAALS POV:

I vividly remember the trembling and horrified expression Cale had across his face along with Gilferd who tried by all means to calm Cale's nerves however even though his face was of a content facade worry and nervousness was still evident with his slightly trembling hands,my face finally fell upon the bloodied mess of Yelaine, her clothes scorched and torn revealing her arm and leg that were a mess of missing skin and a deep colour of red.

instinctively I ushered for the two to place Yelaine on her bed and placed my open hand just above Yelaine's chest, concentrating as much as I could under the stressful and sudden situation.i wrapped my thoughts around my mana flame which was of a pure blue, cursing at my weakness and Yelaine's injuries I chanted a few words under my breath with my eyes closed I could feel the calming warmth and tenderness of the spell, green snake like tendrils of light injected themselves into Yelaine's chest as the healing process slowly began.

Cale and Gilferd had left the room a few minutes after I'd activated my spell allowing me pure Isolation and silence,I sat there for about 20 minutes with my open hand still hovering above Yelaine's chest as the tendrils kept seeping out of my hand and into her chest till they showed themselves once more only this time it was out of Yelaine's left arm, it made it's way to her finger tips and wrapped around her arm fully before emanating a bright glowing green light.

A sudden sensation of heat and exhaustion overcame me as my spell started acting on its own accord, accelerating and quickly healing Yelaine's chest at a speed that was impossible at my current rate as a mage. The green tendrils changed to a light purplish blue as it transitioned from Yelaine's now healed chest to her arm and finally her leg,a crackle and a bang occured and I was thrown across the room from my spell being forcibly stopped.

my hand ached while trembling furiously as Yelaine now sat up right with her wounds relatively healed although still had areas of massive scars but it had healed to a point I could handle within few weeks, her eyes were wide open as if conscious however the gaze that fell upon me was empty and distant to top it all of the colour of her eyes were now a mixture of black, blue and purple as if resembling a night sky.

Her mouth opened as if to say something but however quickly she slumped back and crashed onto the ground unconscious once more,I had hurriedly checked the state of my mana flame but it was still a pure blue while Yelaine's was a flickering and rather deep blue colour that confused me as I was coming to the conclusion that she'd somehow played a role in altering my spell.

Cale gave me a devastated and rather guilty expression when I informed him of the state of Yelaine's mana flame that appeared to be on the verge of death, I refrained from speaking of the spectacular event that happened in front of me as the mere thought felt unbelievable and like a dream that I'd sound insane if I tried.

I stared at Yelaine as she trotted around the room farely ecstatic at her near fully recovered self,my expression unconsciously turned to a frown and Yelaine tilted her head in concern to the expression I didn't even notice I had on.

"what's bothering you you've been frowning at seemingly nothing for quite some time"

finally aware of my expression I laughed and waved a hand dismissively.

"it's nothing you're just so.....curious that's all"

"who else on this earth gets an entire mana flame reset"

I winced at the statement to which Yelaine waved her hand and laughed awkwardly to my concern.

"it's nothing"
