Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 Goodbye to the Roswaals

Stretching and bending my arm for the final time and sensing no backlash of pain I let out a sigh of relief at my now recovered state, knowing full well that this meant I could finally leave for Loridea.

As heart wrenching as it felt to leave the Roswaal family who I'd grown a bit attached to I couldn't stay here forever with all the duties and responsibilities I had back at Loridea, suppressing the thoughts of staying I made my way out of the spare bedroom that I had I grown attached to.I made my way to the quite lively dinner table that was a complete opposite from what it was a few weeks ago.

Helen pulling away the large bowl of steaming meat dipping in sauce just as hot that Gilferd was hurriedly trying to grab before Cale got his hands on any of the large pieces, cups of ale were placed beside all three plates and bread that looked soft and quite.....expensive.Chuckling under my breath at the families friendly bickering state I took a seat at the plate with bread and ale that wasn't occupied, not wanting to get involved in the frenzy for the meat in the steaming sauce I took a small bowl of mushroom soup and poured some in my plate to eat with the bread.

marveling at its taste and the lengths Helen had taken, I couldn't help but feel like this was catered to some special event.

'A birthday maybe?-'

"ok that's enough you two can't you have some manners and notice who's sat down with us!?"

Helen made a gesture towards me which was surprising since I didn't remember ever mentioning my birthday, both Gilferd and Cale's faces turned red in embarrassment as they coughed in unison while looking alway as they gestured for me to pick first,my lips curled to form a sinister smile as I took the two pieces that Helen had so admirably protected from them and watched as their faces paled in horror.

"H-Hey one is enough for you why take two, you're doing this on purpose aren't you!!"

Gilferd retaliated while pointing at my plate as he now stood from his seat.

"we have different stomachs"

I said teasingly while purposefully biting down on the meat in the slowest way possible while making exaggerated expressions of delight, Helen laughed at my taunt to the two and took her own pieces while Cale and Gilferd grumbled as they reached forward to take their own.not even fighting for either piece with their former main objective now in my stomach.

"so how's Cale's training going?"

I said not wanting to cause an awkward silence when the mood was so lively and refreshing.

"haha the bastard is actually determined more than ever now, his slow when it comes to applying the technique but at least he makes up with how fast he grasps the concept"

Gilferd laughed while patting Cale on the back who rolled his eyes but his flushed face gave away his obvious delight at the compliment.

"understanding is the first step to applying it, once you get the hang of applying one technique others become easy to apply"

"really?"

Cale asked in a desperate manner with eyes shimmering of hope to my words holding true.

"of course, sort of like when you learn how to walk things like kicking and running are a breeze"

"I hope so...."

Cale slumped into his chair and sucked in the last sauce dipped piece of meat from his plate like it was spaghetti, laughing at his hopeless expression I stared back at the extravagant meal we were so aggressively eating and thought back at how Helen had treated this meal like it was meant specifically for me.

Of course I was a guest here but I'd stayed here so long that after a few days the "guest hospitality" thing kinda faded away and they acted more normal around me, sometimes a little too.....normal.I mustered the courage to finally ask the question swimming in my head as I pulled away my cup of ale from my mouth.

"is there a reason for this meal today, it felt like it wa-"

"catered for you"

Gilferd finished my sentence while also letting down his cup of ale.

"well of course it was idiot did you think we wouldn't expect you to be leaving after fully recovering?"

Gilferd said with a large smile that reached his eyes along with Helen who's cheeks were now a little red from the 3 cups of ale she'd already had.

"We wanted to make it-hiccip-more-hiccup-meaningful with one of those fancy enchanted music boxes but their so-hiccup-expensive"

said Helen in a drunken state that I'd never seen before.

"screw those damned money leeches, music is music and we'll make our own song dedicated to Yelaine"

"w-wait hold on you're barely yourse-"

my voice was drowned from the loud cheer of Helen accompanied by Cale who was now relishing in my flustered appearance.

"oo..."

slowly covering my ears as to shield them from the the possibly embarrassing lines I found them being pryed open as I looked up to find Cale giving me a sinister smile as the words flushed into my ears, their words were a bit slurred but I was surprised to find it clear and rhythmic in such a way that I unconsciously started tapping my feet to the song that was thankfully not related to me at all.

Watching Helen and Gilferd with faces flushed red while they held their cups in one hand and their free hands clasped around each other as they went into an excited dance, not being able to pry my eyes from the scene of Helen and Gilferds dancing as I tried to carve it into my mind for comedic safe keeping Cale poured another cup of ale and passed it to me while filling his own and bringing it into the air.

"Salutations to the crippled Yelaine!!"

I frowned a bit but ultimately let out a cheer and clashed my cup with his.

"Salutations you walking mess of nerves!!"

time flowed by like it was being intentionally slowed whether it was due to my absurdly intoxicated self it didn't matter I enjoyed it the nonetheless and relished in the phenomenon, laughs, cheers and slight bickering occured as Helen and Gilferd constantly corrected each other on the events of their history between each other after their singing had died down.

"this is going to go on all night"

"really?"

I asked Cale.

"trust me I've seen them drunk a few times and it's nothing but tiring for me having to put them to sleep in the morning"

laughing we sat there lightly chatting while Helen and Gilferd continuously bickered and corrected each other till the noise slowly died down and the two adults had their heads layed on the table unconscious,I stared at my half empty cup as I reminisced on the eventful night.

"this is really going to hit me tomorrow morning"

Cale said as he stared at his also unfinished cup.

"tell that to the person who has to leave tomorrow"

"right...."

Cale narrowed his eyes at me and abruptly let out loud sigh with frustration behind it.

"haa just a month and I feel like I'm saying goodbye to a close family member"

I raised my hands and shrugged with a smirk.

"I have been told that I have quite the friendly effect"

"that's a dangerous skill"

I laughed and hung my head on the chair I was seated on to face the ceiling.

"well then care for one last toast goodbye?"

groaning I took my cup and pulled my head back to face Cale one last time.

"let's see should it be something like 'let's meet again' "

staring at the pondering Cale I rolled my eyes and raised my half empty cup high.

"to meet again and if I ever do meet a walking mess of nerves such as you it better be as a general with a grand title"

"to meet again then.....and thanks for the pep talk"

the clash of our cups eerily reminded me of my time back during the calamity when celebratory goodbyes such as this were made to each other before battles in the chance that we'd never get to say to each other after.

'don't kill the mood now Yelaine, geeze'
