"So what deal are we talking about?" Katherine asked as she hung on us.
"Really?" We ask her "You can't keep your nose on your face?" We ask in unison.
"Not when it comes to you two!" She giggles as I glare at her. "Oh come on you two are my best friends. And the only ones not born in the clan but are high ranking." She giggles and I glared.
"Just because we were turned instead of born does not mean you have the right to eavesdrop on us. Expasy now that I am Lady of the Lady Knights!" I snap at her anger filling my eyes.
"That's not what I …" She starts
"Shut up and go find your charges, Katherine!" I ordered her. She gasps at me as her eyes turn sad, she lowers her head.
"Of course, Lady Diana." She whispers and turns and walks away.
"Dia?" Loran asked.
"Sorry Loran but I could not take that not from her if she thinks I am her best friend." I whisper turning my back and walking away. Not with the weight of this dragon on my back. I thought softly sighing. I returned to my room and slid to the floor. Black tears fell down my face as I winced as my heart took a beat. I see my heart is not supposed to beat but once a week it will hurt and normally it happens on the six-day of the week, not the fourth I gasp and whimper as it beats again. "Shit what is going on?" I asked myself as it fell silent again. I hissed as I opened the door to my room. Katherine was standing in front of me, her eyes wide.
"Umm, I thought I heard a heartbeat." She tells me.
"Are you nuts the only thing around here with a heartbeat is animals and I don't have a pet." I tell her.
She blushes. "Right, right." I almost sighed as she smiled sadly at me. "I am sorry about before." She sighed and looked away. "It wasn't right nor was it what you and Loran mean to me."
"I thought I told you to find your charges?" I asked and she winced.
"Matthew has them and the king told me to come to find you." She whispered.
"I see." I sighed and stepped out of my room. "Come we will go see what the king needs. Also, if you ever say something like that again our friendship is over."
"Thank you!" She yelled and hugged my neck. "I will think before I speak from now on. I promise!"
"You better or so help me you will forever hate me!" I tell her glaring and walking towards the great hall.
"Diana!" Father's voice was thought out in the halls. I blinked then blinked again
"I didn't do it whatever it was!" I yell back as my voice echoes throughout the halls.
"There you are!" He said walking out of the shadows making Katherine jump.
"Lord Arcaria!" She gasped. "I swear you two are trying to give us all heart attacks!"
Father chuckled and looked at me. "Come the King wants you."
"Yes, Kat told me that." I sighed, rolling my eyes as I followed my father.
"What causes you such pain my daughter?" He asked me as we walked towards the great hall.
"I just worry that people will try and take advantage of what they do not understand." I tell him calmly. "That and I are conflicted on the title of leader of the lady knights. I know they need a female leader, but one would think a clan born would be better." I said calmly rubbing my arm as Father pulled me to a stop.
"You may not be clan born but you are my daughter, and no one has the right to make you feel like that should take the chances of you moving through the ranks or even make you feel less of yourself. I have not hard this fear in almost 60 years what brought it back?" He asked me.
"I just." I ran my hand over my arm as I looked up at him. "I worry I will let you and King Logan down and lose the faith you all put in me." I looked down at the floor.
"Oh, sweetie unless you give in to the darkness and give up you will never screw up that bad." He tells me he gripped my chin and forces me to look at him. "As for king Logan he would not have given you the position without weighing all the pros and cons." I grin knowing that was true.
"Ok." I said as I squared my shoulders and followed Father back to the great hall.
"Welcome back." King Logan said without looking up as I stopped and looked at the queen chair. "Lord Arcaria." He said pointing to the set to his left as Matthew sat on the right side next to the Queen chair. He looked up at me before I could sit next to my father. "Lady Arcaria as Lady of the lady knights it is with in your right to sit in the queen chair as the female leader of the clan." I swear if I could blush, I would be scarlet as I moved, I sat in between him and Matthew who winked at me. He handed me a stack of papers.
"Oh joy." I laughed as I reached out and grabbed the second fountain pen. I started reading the paperwork with a smile humming softly.
"MY KING!" I hear as I worked my way through the list of squires that needed a knight.
"What?" King Logan asked as he looked up from his paperwork.
"When did you decide to take Lady Arcaria as a mate?" I blinked.
"I haven't but as the Lady of the Lady Knights she has every right to be where she is sitting." King Logan said as I glared at Vincent.
"Lady Arcaria." I looked up at elder Sarah.
"Elder Sarah?" I asked. She handed me a stack of papers. "What are these?" I asked.
"These are page applications." I took them from her as I started reading.
"What do I need to do with these?" I asked
"They just need to be approved so they can be pages." I nod and start working through them.
"Duck to water." Matthew said with a snort.
"To true." Father laughs.
"Really?" I glared at them. "You're both bad." I grumbled.
They laughed at me as I glared at them. "are you guys really going there?" I asked. "After all Father I do half of your paperwork. Which you will have to pick back up yourself." I remind him.
"Oh, but my dear you are my heir you have to know how to run the part of our family." He tells me.
"Father." I chide. "You are a vampire, an original vampire more than anyone knows how long you can live. So do not give me that!" He blushes at that. I snort
"Hush my dear." He said sticking his nose in the air.
"Really Nicodemus?" King Logan asked.
"Perhaps." He snorts.
I rolled my eyes as I jumped as the doors were forced open. "Your stupid male if you where not from another clan I would have your Shield!"
"Eric what is wrong?" King Logan as she dragged Albaforth in by the ear.
"This male." She said just about throwing him to the ground. "Decided to come into our training class and start preaching." She spat. "About females being weak."
King Logan rubbed his nose as Katherine and Gareth ran in the room. "Albaforth!" Gareth snarls. "What the fuck are you doing?" He asked Eiric.
Your apprentice." She spat. "Interrupted my class and started preaching your clan ideals. You have no right to try and tell our pages how to act and be." She snarls at him.
"Enough!" King Logan yells as he stands up as Gareth starts to speak. "Gareth you will take or send your apprentice home. And he is not allowed back. I would recommend you get a new apprentice and teach them how our clan works before you bring them here." The king hisses.
"Your majesty." He starts.
"No Gareth the first time we have interacted with your clan in over 600 years and you bring a person who can not hold their tongue even if you do not agree with how we work you should respect the ways of the clan you visit." He snaps.
"I understand that Your Majesty." Gareth started.
"You might but he does not!" King Logan snaps "He must leave. I do not want someone like this in my home."
"Yes, your majesty." He grits out as he grabs Albaforth by the arm and drags him out.
"Well that was anticlimactic." I rolled my eyes as I went back to work.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Diana!" Matthew called as he ran up to me.
I looked up from my spot in the grass working on paperwork. "Yes, Matthew what is it?" I asked looking at him.
"Father wants you." He said panting. "King Varance is here." I was up and gathered my paperwork up with me as I followed him to King Logan's office.
"Father King Varance." Matthew said as he opened the office door nodding to the other king.
"King Logan King Varance." I nod to each of them as the First Lady. I technically have the statics of a queen. Or that is what King Logan told me.
