Chapter 2 - Chapter 1 “Normal” Day

I see a large silhouette with evil eyes. It shrouds me with its darkness. It's terrifying presence made me fall into a sitting position. I grow closer to the edge, closer and closer. Until finally the shadowy figure pushes me off the edge. The soundless surroundings made me even more terrified, being able to only hear my own screaming. I fall through the atmosphere, lost in its bright blue color and white clouds. My ears, eyes, and nostrils all filled with too much air, I feel myself passing out.

*PANT* I woke up from another nightmare. From the way my bed was positioned, I could see my huge collection shōnen manga on a 4-shelf.of I get up and go to the bathroom. I do my daily routine to get ready. After that, I head to school.

The path to school was the same as usual. There was a full cafe, many apartments, other students meeting with each other to make plans for after school, a mugging in the alley that everyone chooses to ignore, and a school bus picking up kids. I get on the bus for the purpose of sleeping on the way to the school.

Its just a normal day at my high school. Nothing interesting ever happens. Many people Math class is as easy as ever. There are never hard equations to test the brains of its students. Math nerds, as they are known to me, think they are smarter then they actually are. They consider themselves to be geniuses and anyone who disagrees is immediately shot down by the class as everyone also seems to think this way that the math "genius" is always right and can never make mistakes.

Reading class makes us read light novels, we are then instructed to write an essay about a character, how you can relate to the story, and just trivial perspective based questions about a single persons interpretation of someone. Teachers expect you to have a good understanding of a character, and for you to always be able to fully connect your life to a stories.

"Now we'll do 100 plunges"! The PE teacher shouts. I've never been good at sports, in-fact on occasion I find it incredibly bothering to even run for long. Many who do enjoy this class are usually friendly people and I have no problem communicating with them. But that's always just who's talking to me. They are always just looking to negatively compete with another person and bring them down, it always reminds me that they really aren't nice people.

Most people have very flat personality, which is why it seems the popular kids are always the loudest and most quirky. If you take the proper time to talk to one, they are actually boring to be around. People no matter who and no matter what are two separate people. One is who they pretend to be, and the other is who they actually are. But people always get caught up in their cover and each day they convince theirselves this is who they really are. And if you can take advantage of who they pretend to be, you will always have the high ground with them.

I need to hurry to my next class. I ate lunch late to make up for my poor performance during PE. The popular kids always sat in the middle of the class for a divider of sorts. I managed to make it back to my class before I would've been marked absent. The teacher also showed up late, 4 minutes later then I have. Ms. Mayumi hurried in the class asking people to please hurry and take their seats. "I'm soooooo sorry for being late class" Ms. Mayumi said whilst bowing her head.

I hurried to my seat due to the adrenaline of having to rush to class earlier then I'm used to. We don't have assigned seats but I still took into account the common rule of thumb students have with their seating arrangements, I sat in the very back, and 3 seats to the left. We immediately took our notebooks out and as well as any other books we would need for this class. The adrenaline wore off after I got to my seat, and I decided to put my head on my books. Of course I heard my classmates fantasying about our teacher. Mayumi herself looked out of place in the real world. She looked like she belonged in a paining, drawn by god. Ms. Mayumi started her lecture while eating a candy bar. To me it sounded like rambling and I could only hear so much. "Now then the chemical compound for___" Ms. Mayumi says, but I fell asleep on that last part and didn't quiet hear it.

I think about the dream I had when I first woke up. It was so terrifying. You couldn't tell by looking at me from the outside but I was having a really really bad dream. Ms. Mayumi says aloud, "Akito please wake up please".

I wake up gasping for air. The class quickly puts their attention on me. Ms. Mayumi asks me "Are you okay?". No i wasn't, that dream was terrifying. But I didn't like the tension with me and the class, and I don't like being bothered. I just answered "No Mayumi Shimu". I always replied to people with their full name. To a lot of people it was weird. To everyone else I must look like a stalker. Everyone isn't really bothered to learn each others names. In fact there a lot of people in this school barely bother to even know their last name.

To me, this is what I think really separated me from everyone...Whenever I look at someone in the eye, I've seen their name like it's right above their head, just floating there. When I was able to process memory and speech, I said people's full names. They had no idea how I could know that. And i quickly took note of their reactions and it made it clear, what I did was abnormal. I found out early this isn't something people can do. I try not to call people by full name, but it was a hard hobby to get rid of.

Ms. Mayumi had an almost comical evil expression on her face, "Well then if everything is ok, WHY are you falling asleep in my class!?". I managed to get off with a warning, and some humility. I stayed awake throughout the rest of the class and took notes for the lesson. After class I waited for 9 people to leave before rushing out.

The school bell rang and everyone in a giant mob exited the school. I went in a giant line for the bus. It was the only bus that went to anywhere close to where I lived. I didn't exactly have anywhere I wanted to go, and it's not like I was invited anywhere. I saw at the bus stop some two people breaking up. They had a whole dramatic scene. It was too annoying, so I just decided to walk home.

On my way home I passed by the diner and many apartments. I saw other students hanging out. Then I saw the alleyway. There was regular muggings that occurred there. No one ever tried interfering, and the guards still haven't made it more secure. This time though, I heard a little girl screaming as quiet as they could. In this situation so many times I've passed by the alleyway. I never even considered helping them. The suffering victim. This time was different. I could just feel it.

I went deep into the alley. I saw a small girl with dark hair. Half of it was dark and the other half was pure white. She had casual clothes on, but something was abnormal. This little girl...had dark wings. It was like looking at a painting of icarus. Who was often portrayed as falling bird. The girl reached out to me. The three muggers all had oni masks that was designed with a full face cover expect for their eyes,I could even see their names floating above their head. They all had military grade armor. As magical as the little girl seemed, they looked even more magical. From the tips of their oni masks tiny cyan flames ignited from their horns. They also seemed to be able to conjure blue flames from their hands and weapons.

Anyone would've been freaked. But, this seemed almost familiar. They let the girl reach out her hand to me as we all knew it was pointless. I had a plan, as soon as I'm able to grab her I use my notebook as a sorta blinder and run like hell. It was a dumb plan but in this situation there wasn't anything I could do. Cops couldn't arrive in time. And even if they were at the end of the ally the oni masked men would kill us instantly.

I go through with my plan, and we both extend our hands out to each other. I prepared grabbing out my notebook. But then...
