Lu Yichen had never imagined that he was going to seek help from Mo Xin Er anytime soon. They hardly knew each other but they weren't also distant. The group project they had been working on seemed to bring them together.
He held his chin thoughtfully. They were almost done with the project. Only a few edits left. He probably wouldn't talk to her anymore after that.
He was restless. Why he was, he himself had no idea.
He lifted his head and his gaze met with Mo Xin Er's who had just walked into the library. Her gaze was as it usually was. Blank. It always made Lu Yichen wonder if she could see through him.
She got to him and greeted, "Young Master Lu."
"Ms. Mo," Lu Yichen responded.
As he looked at the girl who was standing beside him with a blank but cold expression on her face, Lu Yichen was surprised. What he done to her?
Mo Xin Er took her seat beside him as they finished their project. She could feel his curious gaze on her. She finally couldn't take it anymore and turned to him to ask why he was staring. He wouldn't normally stare at her like this. More so, they were usually distant with each other.
"Is there something you want to tell me?" she asked holding his gaze as she turned.
Lu Yichen nodded. "Ms. Mo, are you free tomorrow?"
Mo Xin Er looked at him and narrowed her eyes. She replied, "I don't think you have any reason to be interested in my schedule."
Lu Yichen smiled and said, "I'm quite interested, though."
"Why is that?"
"Ms. Mo must have heard that tomorrow is my election, right?"
She nodded. She seemed to have heard of him being elected as CEO of FX tomorrow. But what did that have to do with her?
"Yes, I have."
"I hope I am not being too pushy or presumptuous," Lu Yichen replied. "But I would like to request you to be my plus one."
Mo Xin Er frowned.
"Plus one?"
"Exactly."
Mo Xin Er held in the urge to laugh. Why would she be his partner for the party. Doesn't he have a girlfriend? Even if he didn't, shouldn't the company prepare one for him.
She laughed awkwardly, "I'm sorry but I'll have to reject you. I can not help you."
"Why is that?"
"Don't people dance in these banquets? I can't dance." She was lying. But a party? It was never her scene.
Lu Yichen mouthed an 'oh'. He seemed disappointed. But he soon turned to her with a smile and said, "You don't have to dance if you can't. I can reject dancing. Moreover, even if worse comes to worst, you can always follow my lead."
She eyed him cautiously. "Why are you so adamant on making me be your partner?"
"I don't know. Maybe, because it is easier to make someone who I'm familiar with my partner."
Mo Xin Er stared at him and nodded in understanding. "Makes sense."
"So, will you be my partner for tomorrow?"
"Okay," she replied. And immediately regretted. She had completely forgotten that she would be putting on a fancy dress. So stressful.
Lu Yichen smiled contentedly. He had confidence in his persuasion skills.
"By the way, are you angry with me or something?"
Mo Xin Er looked at him. She had truly been angry with him. How could she forget? He was that Su Jing's best friend. She even accepted to be his partner for the party tomorrow. She turned around and gave him a glare.
"None of your business."
"Okay," Lu Yichen replied with a smile. She probably had no intention of telling him. He would just let it go. He glanced at the compiled project on the laptop interface, satisfied. He outstretched his hand for a shake. "Happy project completion."
Mo Xin Er stared at him, confused. Do people celebrate the completion of their assignments. She merely nodded and packed up her stuff.
"I'll handle the submission," she called out and turned to leave.
He looked at her retreating back and called out, "I'll pick you up by seven in the evening."
His voice was naturally high so he caught the attention of all the other students reading. They glared at him and he gave an apologetic smile. He had totally forgotten that they were in a library. He looked back in the direction of the exit. But she was long gone.
…
Mo Xin Er had just walked out of the library and was on her way to the parking lot, when a certain someone suddenly popped in front of her. She lifted her gaze to look at him. A passive and blank expression took over her face again. If it wasn't for him appearing in front of her like this, she would have long forgotten that he existed.
Li Xuan beamed as he walked beside her. "You still remember me, don't you?"
"What do you want?"
"Do you want to hang out with me and my friends tonight?"
Mo Xin Er stared at him uncaringly. "No."
Li Xuan made a sad face, clutching at his own chest dramatically. "Ouch. Rejection hurts."
"I'm not interested."
"More like, you don't want to be around me," he complained.
Mo Xin Er scoffed before opening the door of her car and slid in. She corked the key and drove off immediately. The moment she got to the door of her apartment, her hand which was on the door knob paused. She remembered the promise she made to Lu Yichen. She had totally forgotten about her friend.
She would probably be sad that she got involved with Su Jing's friend. But she had promised him already. Anyway, she had to inform Fan Liuying first. If she doesn't agree, then she would just bail out on Lu Yichen.
She turned the door knob and walked into the apartment. Fan Liuying sat on the floor of the living room. She was holding a big bowl of popcorn as she watched a movie Mo Xin Er didn't recognize.
Her gaze shot to the door when she heard the knob click and she beamed when she saw Mo Xin Er pop up. She shot Mo Xin Er a smile which made her more guilty than she already was.
Fan Liuying seemed to notice that something was wrong and she got up. "Is something wrong?"
Mo Xin Er stared at her and hesitated. If she told her, would she be sad?
