Chapter 4 - Infirmary

The winds were harsh today, the shutter sound of stormy winds and moving leaves near the window slid was the only movement visible to eyes. I was lying over a white bed sheet and was feeling slight pain below my ribs and as far as I can notice infirmary was filled with deafening silence and a lamp at the centre of the corridor was the only source of light.

With thunder, the gusting wind from the nearby lake was making almost anyone realise that I was awake. I tried to sit but the pain forced me to lay down, "If I was you, I wouldn't try", someone was coming from the darkness.

"I just joined, nice meeting you, Auriel", a girl from darkness spoke.

She's the same voice that asked me to stop; she was walking towards me and I was waiting for the light to fall on her face, she was wearing an anklet over her feet, a red dress tightly wrapped over her body and her healer cloak.

She was standing below the lamp, her face was bright and she was smiling and looked towards me with those big sapphire eyes, my brain started throbbing like a drum and filled my head with memories and words, "I grabbed her by the neck".

I tried looking towards the roof while she sat along my bed, "how are you feeling ?"

"I'll be alright"

She put her hand over my forehead, her hands were soft, warm and soothing. I don't know what this feeling was. I wanted to come close to her, to touch her but I should be far from her or I must, people get hurt when I'm around.

"It seems you don't have fever now".

"I'll be alright", I wanted her to leave she was breaking everything that I have successfully suppressed until now.

She stood up and put one hand over my chest, "You'll be alright devil" and winked. She walked back to darkness, I wanted her to stop or was I sure about it. I'm not accustomed to weakness and this surely is weakness...

I wasn't able to see until now but while she left, she ignited one more lamp in the corridor and now I can see I was not alone, there were other beds too and in one of those bed, Lucian was sitting looking towards me, smiling with an apple in one hand.

He said, "So, I have heard you were on fire today, almost killed other warriors" and now as he had mentioned I was out of control and was ready to rip them apart every memory start flashing in front of me again.

"I know"

He stood up and was standing there for a while trying to access my situation, "So who was she, heard you were about to snap her neck."

"Hmm, I was not in the right state of mind"

"Surely", Lucian took another bite from the apple, "Isn't she beautiful ?"

"Hmm"

"Want something I can bring? I don't think even with your exceptional recovering prowess you'll be in a state to walk until tomorrow morning".

"I'll be fine, you were wounded too and I'm not seeing much concern in you."

"They just scratched flesh no vital organ was damaged so healers did a great job and because of the stunt that you played no one is ready to come near you except that girl." he smiled back at me.

"I'll be fine."

Lucian walked towards my bed and held another bed from one of the corners and slid it near mine and fell on it.

"This place seems nice."

-----xxx-----

The morning sunlight began to trickle through a nearby window, his leg starts to overheat where the sunlight fell directly, Auriel tried to curl his leg but a sharp pain in his back woke him, he looked around to realise everyone was still sleeping, he removed his blanket and tried to get out of bed still he was feeling a stinging pain but it was bearable.

He walked towards the window on the right side of his bed, students were jogging on the stone-paved road on the other side of the road was a stream where assassins were training on the wooden boards which were meant to make them exceptional in terms of balance; every year thousand join assassins not to become one instead to gather skills but till last phase only six to seven survive the rigorous routine.

Aureil felt something wet over his clothes. The pain started to increase, his movement may have broken the stitches.

"Why you are standing ?", someone almost shouted from the corridor.

Amaya was standing in the corridor, staring Auriel with anger, "Everyone here thinks they are expert in everything."

Aureil tried to hold his wounds tightly as he can. She paced towards him and wrapped his hand over her shoulder to help him walk, his musky smell was attracting her, he was not muscular but had a lean body and every muscle was chiselled to perfection.

Although he was not muscular; she had to use every drop of strength she had to help him walk, he sat on his bed cautiously while she removed his vest to expose his wound and went on to clean it again, "If you kept on scraping this, it's never going to heal".

"They always do, I'm not concerned about wounds." as he said that he felt a stinging pain on his skin and saw Amaya smiling, she pinned the needle inside her skin." I was changing the ambience, you won't die if you'll smile for a while", she added.

"Ohh! I'm getting the idea that you have developed affection towards this place", Lucian was standing near the ledge at the door with a witty smile on his face, his dark hairs were tied carefully and had a big bandage over his waist, healers have shown too much interest in him because of his noble background and handsome face. They may have treated Aureil too but they were scared after his battle and what happened in the infirmary.

"Seems so", Amaya added with a smile.

"So why don't you use magic, I have seen others using it to expedite the process", asked Lucian.

"Magic shouldn't be allowed to run free, it creates havoc when we do so. One should always ...", Amaya stopped in between. She must control herself, these secrets must remain within boundaries where they are meant to be.

Lucian was still staring towards her waiting for her to complete the sentence. "So one should never depend on shortcuts", she added to change the context and looked towards Auriel who was looking towards her, her hairs which were falling all over her face but when she looked he started looking outside the window. Lucian giggled a bit and added, "I think we'll be needing you more often."

She didn't say anything and Aureil stared towards Lucian, "Just saying" said Lucian with a Smirk on his face.
