Chapter 19 - Return of the dragon king

The influx of Pure mana surging throughout Alterra, had been a godsend for the majority of the people throughout the populated cities and continents. The resurgence of mana had revitalized the ambitions of many people to begin eagerly cultivating again.

Not many had seen the hidden dangers the pure mana had brought to the carefully balanced peace between the nations of mankind. With some areas having more pure mana being pooled into them into others, the envy and greed of mankind were about to get the better of them.

--In the orphanage--

'What I do know is that you are extremely special, and we will have to be careful from now on.' The last words Father Gomo said to Runaan scared him because his worries and fears continued to stack on top of each other. How is a 5-year-old child expected to deal with these kinds of events?

The tensions and worries finally got the best of Runaan, as he closed his bloodied eyes from the transformation of his eyes when his bloodline was accessed, he fell unconscious. His body just couldn't cope with the sheer power of his bloodline being released, even though it was momentarily.

Even if it was just his eyes on the outside that was bloodied, he nonetheless looked fine. However, all of the damage his small body took was mainly on the inside of his body. The strain didn't cause any severe long-term damage, his was such a severe accumulation of aches and pains that just drained all of his energy.

What scared Father Gomo the most was, the fact that he was utterly rendered useless, within his own sealed space. After Runaan passed out, Gomo regained his own senses, as the Dragon King's fluctuations had gone away, retreating within Runaan's body, Gomo noticed his seal was completely dispelled.

The sealed space he created with the greatest spell he had control over was torn away from him in a mere instant, and it wasn't even from being directed towards the spell, it was just the simple appearance of the soul that destroyed his control over the sealed space.

At the same time that he noticed the control of his seal was shattered, he felt the incoming fluctuations of another terrifying being. But this time, these fluctuations were familiar and non-threatening to him, it was Alexandros.

"Gomo, hurry we don't have time to wait around for more things to happen! Meet me in the catacombs now, and bring the boy!" Alexandros ran himself as fast as he could towards the Cathedral's catacombs, sending vibrations through the earth and into Gomo's body to send his message specifically so only he could hear.

The ability to which Alexandros could control his mana, and his intentions of spells was terrifyingly high. It was at a point that one really could understand why he had such a strong understanding of his capital's ongoings. Most things didn't escape his notice from the vibrations and mana fluctuations of the earth within his vicinity.

"Right, we need to go. Borrian, take Carri away to her room, make sure she's okay. Eladreas, follow me, and try to keep up! Alexandros is waiting for us." Gomo spent no time figuring out what Alexandros was about to talk to him about, though Eladreas wasn't asked for, he felt he needed to understand more of the significance the child he brought to the Crownsman's Empire.

Lifting Runaan's body off up, Gomo immediately vanished from view, running straight to the catacombs, he made no detour, the situation was indeed grave, he never could have thought that the suppressive force the Dragon King's soul could have effected the entire capital.

Eladreas regained his senses as soon as Gomo told Borrian to take care of Carri, regaining his normal thought processes. Eladreas looked over towards Borrian who still seemed dazed, and Carri on the ground who was still crying in absolute terror of the force she just felt. Looking back towards Gomo as his name was called, he saw him Gomo rushing from the room, telling him to follow him.

'Fuck! Where am I supposed to even go, you run way too fast!' Eladreas swore inside his mind as he began to follow the trail of open doors that had cracks on the doors near their handles because they were being utterly crushed as Gomo rushed through them.

After following through the first few doors far behind Gomo, Eladreas noticed they were headed towards the catacombs, and he began to pick up his pace, even more, spending less time on which doors were being damaged as Gomo passed through them.

Just as Eladreas entered into the catacombs, he saw the Emperor standing in front of Gomo with a stern expression that seemed to be forced upon his face with a sense of terror behind his darkened eyes. It took Elasdreas a whole 10 minutes to make his way to the catacombs and to find where Gomo and Runaan were at.

"Just what the hell happened, the entire city just felt a suffocating sense of fear and were all utterly suppressed, I could barely move. I doubt many could tell it came from the cathedral, let alone the orphanage, but we need to move! The existence of a dragonkin within our kingdom is enough to cause turmoil! The fact that a suppressive force I assume that came from him only adds to the fact that we need to be more pragmatic of his existence! He cannot be left alone anymore!" Alexandros was venting his concerns to Gomo as Eladreas entered the room. It was just the four of them.

"I know Alexandros, he needs to be in your care from now on, or he needs to die. There is no other option right now! But that is not my decision to make, that is yours to make. If you raise him as your own, he can become the greatest asset to this Empire, or you can kill him and remove any lingering threat concerned to him now!" Gomo said hurriedly in a monotone voice towards Alexandros.

"What the hell do you mean to kill him, you can't---" Eladreas' voice was sealed by Gomo as he began to yell out his concern for Runaan.

"I understand your concern for Runaan, but his existence is simply too dangerous to overlook! Especially when his bloodline or connection to his kindred is a dragon! The Dragon King at that! It's either we raise him to protect those the things he cares for in the supervised environment of the Emperor, or we kill him now and not need to deal with the threat of the dragon king that can suppress the strongest force in this country!!" Gomo started to retort Eladreas.

"As Alexandros said, we need to be pragmatic of this situation! We cannot afford the costs the wrong decision will hold here! I told you to follow me because you've raised the boy for the last 5 years, and you deserve to know what happens to him, the decision is not for you to make!"

Gomo stared at Eladreas with a serious look, one that Eladreas has never seen before and he started to realize the severity of his actions 5 years ago in bringing Runaan back with him from the Forgotten Woodlands.

Eladreas began to stare back towards Gomo and Alexandros with a serious and angry expression at the situation he was now looking at. Nodding his head towards the two of them, he shrunk himself at the fact that he wasn't in a position to decide on the fate of the poor child in front of him.

"Your right Gomo, I need to make my decision now, we can't wait any longer until after his awakening ceremony next year. His existence poses too much of a threat to this country, no, maybe even the world! The power of a dragon is definitely not to be underestimated when just a fraction of its soul can do that to everyone in the city; also, he cannot be allowed to be used to destroy the frail balance of peace he has with our neighbors. I am not the strongest person in this world, it's only because of Atlas and our shared power that I can protect this Empire!"

Alexandros began thinking towards the future, and he couldn't allow the persistence of a dragon to exist in his borders so long as it can pose a threat to him and his people. He then raised his hand and retrieving the hallowed sword of the Crownsman Empire from his spatial ring, he pointed it towards Runaan who was lying unconscious in front of him.

Eladreas began to look at Gomo and Alexandros pleadingly, still unable to speak, trying to convey to them not to kill this child. Struggling and mumbling in vain efforts as Alexandros began to raise his sword.

Just as Alexandros had finished raising his sword towards its apex, the portals outside had now been fully opened across Alterra. Pure mana was being felt as it permeated through the earth, and Alexandros was the first of the ones there to feel the changes occurring to the surroundings.

It only added to the fact that he felt he needed to rid the Empire of Runaan, thinking he's the cause of the dangerous auras and sensations he had just felt beginning to enter the borders of his empire.

"Kothrishard, please forgive me for this..." Alexandros then asked for forgiveness from Kothrishard, Goddess of Light, he began to swing his sword down towards Runaans neck at terrifying speeds. The light glowing out of the hollowed sword began to show a flowing arc in the air.

Just as the sword was about to pierce into Runaan's neck, a resurgence of the terrifying spiritual fluctuation began to tear through the ceiling's mana again. Just as the blade nicked Runaan's neck, a glowing spiritual body entered Runaan's body and released a devastating force around him.

The devastating force repelled Alexandros, Gomo, and Eladreas back away from Runaan's body, launching them into the walls of the catacombs, and even shaking the earth as they were flying through the air.

They looked back towards Runaan through blurred, shaking vision only to see the sudden appearance of a portal appear on the ceiling of the catacombs, and a strange golden-red light flowing from it into Runaan's body.

In countries throughout the planet, people began to look up to the portals that were opening and expelling pure mana from them in joy. But soon that joy turned to terror as they heard a terrifying voice booming from across the skies.

"YOU DARE TRY TO KILL MY DESCENDANT!?!? YOU WILL FALL!!! YOU WOULD HARM THIS CHILD, MY CHILD!?!? THE CHILD OF THE DRAGON KING!!!"

Everyone began to feel the utter terror and shock at the words the booming voice sounded out, ringing their ears. As the thunderous voice's rage reverberated through the world, dragons of every kind began to spew from the portals.
