Chapter three
McKenna knew getting the job was nothing short of a miracle. She has to give her best to get the job done and to prove to Jason that she was competent but that didn't stop McKenna from day-dreaming about Jason as she lay down on her bed when she got home.
She imagined Jason's lips on hers. She imagined him running his hand down her hair and whispering to her, how he cares for her. She imagined she had his child or maybe children. she imagined him telling the whole world that she was his one true love. Even as she planned for bed, she smiled to herself and even as she slept she had a dream about Jason.
The following day McKenna woke up on time, dressed up but this time around appropriately. She was surprised she was eager to go to work. She wanted to see Jason's face. She has never seen him smile and she very much wanted to see it.
The ride from her house to her new place of work was a smooth one. McKenna first entered Elena's office to exchange pleasantries.
"Good morning, beautiful lady" she greeted.
Elena was dressed in a red elegant gown with black heels. she looked older than her age. she is twenty-two, just a few years older than Mckenna. With her fair oval face and size 14 body. she looked a tad older but very beautiful.
"Wow…MK I'm really impressed that you are early" Elena said
"Well…my aim is to get into the good grace of our lovely, arrogant, obnoxious and might I add very ridiculously handsome boss" Mckenna said
"It is good to know you no longer think of me as having a brain of a goat but obnoxious" Jason said behind her and she jumped in surprise. She had no idea how much he startled her.
Mckenna turned to find Jason behind her. it wasn't fair that he looked so perfect and unfettered almost devilish. The black suit he wore made him all the more daunting... almost dangerous like he was not the type of man you want to cross paths with. McKenna frooze for a second before speaking.
"I didn't know you were behind me, Jas… Mr. Yagazie?"
"Well, now that we have cleared the air, Edna bring the files I asked for… and you, Miss Chukwuka, give me the rundown of how my day will go in my office in ten minutes" he said and left.
When Jason left, Elena tried as much as possible to keep a straight face but failed miserably as giggles erupted through her like ripples on a river surface and the more she laughed the infuriated Mckenna became.
'I am glad one of us finds this embarrassing moment funny'
McKenna stood there for some time trying to gather her thoughts. Few minutes later, she went up to Jason's office.
"I'll like to apologize to you" she said
"For calling me arrogant, obnoxious or handsome" he said without looking up
"For everything"
"Tell me Miss Chukwuka, do you find me ridiculously handsome? Your words not mine"
He said and stood up; he walked round her slowly whispering into her ears.
"Do you dream of my lips kissing you and my hands running down your spine as your breath quickens?" he said.
McKenna was already out of breath and she was biting her lower lip, she does that when she is angry or scared and at the moment she was feeling both. How dare he? She thought
"Don't do that… don't bite your lips, consider yourself warned" he said touching her lips
"Or what" she dared
"Or this" he placed his lips on hers, at first gently, he mouth tasted like wine and he slowly moved her artificial hair by the side before he progressed slowly taking her mouth. He urged her to open up her mouth, so he could play with her tongue. His kiss quickened and McKenna was so surprised and shocked that she didn't push him away and to be honest she didn't want to. If she was also been honest with herself, she enjoyed it and she didn't want it to stop. She opened up and relaxed, she wasn't experienced but she would give it all her best but then he stopped abruptly.
"Anytime you bite your lower lip I will kiss you senseless anywhere we might be" he then moved away from her, like nothing happened and just like that he was back to his professional self again.
"Give me the rundown of my day, Miss Chukwuka" he said sitting down
McKenna was more than angry, she was furious; she looked at him, fighting for her anger not to get the better of her.
"How dare you? You had no right kissing me like that and then you went back to.... to...." She was speechless
"I only answered your question of what will happen if you bite your lips and if you are not comfortable working under my conditions then you can quit" he answered without emotions
McKenna blinked, she was tempted to tell him to go to hell but she needed a job.
"I'm not going to quit" McKenna said trying to calm herself down
"If you are not, then stop wasting my time and tell me my schedule, so I can get on with it" he said finally.
Jason's face was expressionless and nonchalant like he was oblivious of McKenna's dilemma.
McKenna blinked again in an attempt to gather her wandering and distracting thoughts. she never imagined that she would find herself in this particularly annoying yet arousing situation. she stared at the cause of her annoyance and excitement and he looked unaffected. her life was turning upside down and he looked unaffected? McKenna opened her mouth to speak but decided against it, she won't give him the satisfaction of showing him how much his kisses affected her.
"Miss Chukwuka, i rather you don't waste more of my time"
McKenna told him his schedule and quickly reminded him of the meeting he had with the board of directors in three days.
"That means we will have to work extra time and of course you will be paid for those hours. I need the board of directors to approve the project I have been working on for four months. In three days, I will sell them my pitch. Do not screw it up for me. you are dismissed" he said and waved her aside. As McKenna walked out of his office, his last word kept taunting her
"I am dismissed... what an ass!" she murmured
McKenna took her time to get to her desk. few minutes can work wonders in transforming her into her real self. She wondered whether people can tell just by looking at her that she had been kissed. correction, senselessly and earth shattering kissed by the devil himself. she wiped her lip with her palm but she immediately regretted it, she wanted any part of Jason she can get or does she?
The thinking and the questions were driving McKenna crazy.
'Get your head straight McKenna. You hate him, remember?' she whispered to herself.
Mckenna adjusted her roughed up hair and straightened her dress and made her way to her cubicle. When McKenna got to her desk, Elena knew something was wrong but she couldn't say anything because of their co-workers, so she moved closer and said "bathroom now"
When they got there, she made sure that no one else was there with them and she told Elena what happened
"Jason what?" Elena repeated astonished
"He kissed me"
"Oh my gosh, he likes you"
"No he doesn't, he is trying to get me to quit my job. You needed to see the way he looked at me afterwards like I am a nuisance to him and I get that girls throw themselves at him all the time but I am not that girl" McKenna said frustrated
Elena empathized with her best friend but she also wanted to know the details.
"Was the kiss good?" she asked slowly
"Well, it is okay I guess" McKenna lied
"You are lying"
"Okay, it was more than okay. It was wow and perfect. Is it possible to hate someone and at the same time be attracted to the same person? I am so confused" McKenna said
"I am just glad someone is making you rethink your position on dating and love" Elena said
"Love is just hormones and I am glad I do not have a family to nag me to get married or stuff" McKenna said running her hand through her hair
"You will be twenty years old soon; there is still time to fall in love"
"For my sake, I hope so" McKenna said
McKenna isn't like other girls who date guys because society expected them to. She tried dating twice and it ended painfully. So she decided to wait for true love and vowed that if she didn't find it, she would remain single and when time comes she will become a single mom. So far she hasn't encountered a guy that as much as attracted her curiosity until Jason, but she knew without anyone telling her that it won't end well for both of them
