Chapter six
McKenna knocked at her boss's office door and Jason asked her to come in while he was on a call.
"Sit…" Jason impatiently told her while he was still on a call.
Jason moved towards the office window to continue what looked like an important discussion over the phone. McKenna sat down with her leg elegantly crossed. She was wearing one of the dresses Elena gave to her, Beige straight cut gown that showed her slender figure with a pair of knockoff heels. She surveyed Jason's office for the first time in a while and McKenna thought a little painting wouldn't hurt if they were hung on the wall. Jason's office was a large one with hand stitched chairs and what she could surmise as an expensive table but the walls were colorless and dead. They were no portrait on his table of any loved one. A pen rolled from the table and fell on the floor and McKenna picked it up and instinctively she started tapping it on the table impatiently maybe playfully too. Jason turned and looked at her.
"Sorry" McKenna whispered and returned the pen to the table.
'.. Yeah I'm still with you" Jason said over the phone "Amazing, I need you to think it over and give me a reply in a week" a pause
"I will have the necessary documents available, I know a judge that can arrange it" another pause on Jason's side while the person on the other end says something
"yes, I don't have the time either to waste going to a law court, but not to worry, I will mail it to you and you don't have to quit your modeling job to come and sign the papers….okay, bye then" he said and ended the call.
"Stop tapping your finger!" Jason said through his clenched teeth.
McKenna had no idea that she was yet unconsciously tapping her finger on the table.
"Sorry" McKenna murmured again.
"Are you done with the presentation?"Jason asked
"Yes sir" she said and handed the papers over to him "I made some suggestions under it for you to look at"
"I didn't ask for your suggestions, Miss Chukwuka"
McKenna imagined for a second how good it would feel to yank Jason's hair one by one until his scalp bled while she boiled the rude egotistical brat in a big pot of hot oil and for a second she felt happy about Jason's imaginary pain.
Jason looked at McKenna and he knew that once again her head was in the cloud. Jason was almost tempted to warn her to stop dressing provocatively except there was nothing indecent about the below the knee straight cut gown she wore and it was short sleeve too. Her boobs weren't showing and her makeup was mild. Jason was tempted to push her to the wall and claim her, kiss McKenna until her lips were swollen.
"McKenna is a child" Jason argued with his body and his body replied there was nothing childish about the way he felt about her and she is nineteen.
At twenty-six, Jason has never been one to have a moral compass but he was never one to take advantage of naïve inexperience women who would want love and all the gooey feelings he spent his life trying to avoid.
"Well I made it anyway, Mr. Yagazie and if you could take a moment to look at them, you will find them useful"
Jason looked at McKenna and continued flipping through the pages.
"Have you booked my flight to Lagos?" Jason said as he lingered at one particular page of the document. McKenna's suggestions were highlighted and If Jason was to be sincere, they were good ideas but he rather choke on his tongue than admit it to his secretary.
"Yes sir…you will be flying first class" McKenna answered
"When is the flight?"
"5pm sir" McKenna answered again
"Hope your bags are packed? Our flight leaves by 5 and I like to be at the airport on time" he said to her
"I will take the night bus and I will meet up with you before 7 a.m tomorrow" McKenna said and turned to leave.
McKenna was almost at the door when he heard Jason on the phone and she turned back.
"Hello, yes....Jason Ekoh-Yagazie speaking…yes, I like to make an extra reservations on the flight to Lagos today… yes, first class…. thank you" he dropped his call.
"The driver will pick you up by 3pm… so I suggest you get home and finish up packing" he said and collected the papers he dropped on the table.
Who died and made Jason boss of her life, McKenna thought. McKenna struggled for words as she fought the urge to scratch out Jason's eyes.
"But... sir"
"Oma, you are not going on a bus and that is my finally decision" Jason said and spared her a glance.
"You can't force me to do everything you
want, Mr. Yagazie"
