After that awful computing class finally ended, I breathed a sigh of relief then started packing everything back into my bag. It was that bad, I literally had to resist the urge to gauge my own eyeballs out.
"I could go over it with you again one evening whenever you're free if you want?" Charlie offered, tidying up his own things on the desk.
I gave him a thin smile that resembled more of a grimace, "no more please, unless you want me to jump off a cliff."
Charlie laughed, "it's not that bad." He enjoyed computing. It was the only thing he seemed to be good at.
Not that bad?! I stared at him incredulously. Was he kidding? My head was ready to explode. "I honestly don't know how you could handle staring at a computer screen all day," I said, I on the other hand was more used to roaming around campsites and collecting dandelions.
"I'm used to looking at four different monitors at the same time, that's the set-up I have in my room. It gets easier with practice," Charlie said with a smile.
I shook my head. Why was everyone around me suddenly offering me extra tuition? First, it was Theo with his running shenanigans and now Charlie? I already had to get up super early just so that I could run around the pitch for two hours. Now computing? Did I have a big sign on my head that read, "desperate, in dire need of help"?
The next class was Biology. Dr Knee seemed to be in one of his preaching moods, his voice got louder and louder as he counted each vertebra in the human spinal cord.
I barely listened as his words went in one ear and came out the other. Molly had been called away earlier this morning by Dr Carlton again. It pained me to see how upset she was by the whole thing but she was still eager as ever to help.
I was worried about her health. It might all have been a bit too much for Molly to handle, she was like a rubber band being stretched to its maximum, ready to snap any second.
I was contemplating whether or not to take Molly to see Kevin train tomorrow morning? I saw him this morning when I was jogging. He probably trained everyday too. That might cheer her up a bit?
"Sleep is one of the most important ways the body repairs itself..." Dr Knee was now saying. "That's why we all need to sleep, those who suffer from chronic insomnia don't get the chance to recover so they become very frail and they become susceptible to diseases."
His words snapped me out of my daydream and my arm immediately shot up in the air.
Dr Knee seemed slightly caught off guard by my unusual outburst of enthusiasm having gotten used to seeing me either half asleep or looking out the window in his class. "Yes, Aria?"
"If a person does something strenuous and it takes a lot of energy out of them but they don't necessarily get the chance to recover or recuperate. What would happen to them in the long term?" I asked.
"If their energy expenditure is greater than their reserve then the reality is I'm afraid, just like a candle, they will face burnout eventually." Dr Knee said, shaking his head regrettably. "Perhaps not immediately, but there will become a point where the balance is tipped in the other direction."
I nodded, deep in thought.
"So, when you heal people does that like use up all your energy reserves or something?" I remember asking Molly once. "No," she had told me, sticking her tongue out whilst making a face, "it just makes me a bit sleepy that's all."
Do they even know what they're doing to her?! Without warning, I shot up from my chair. The metal legs of the chair made a loud screeching sound that resembled someone scratching their nails along a chalkboard.
A few of the students seated near me including Dr Knee winced as if they were in pain, and one person who sat quite far from me even brought her arms up and covered her ears.
I looked around, somewhat confused by their overly exaggerated response. It was an unpleasant sound but surely it didn't warrant such a huge reaction? Must've been those super werewolf hearing, I figured. Something I obviously lacked.
"What is it Aria? Class is not yet over, please remain seated." Dr Knee said, a little louder than normal, clearly he was still suffering from a temporary loss of hearing.
"Sorry," I muttered under my breath as I reached out behind in order to drag my chair back.
The look of horror was shared among my surrounding neighbours and a few of them got ready to cover their ears in response. Were they expecting another round of assault on their poor ears?
To my surprise, Dr Knee marched over in three large strides and lifted up the chair with his hand before I had the chance to recreate my sound effects. "Please have a seat."
The relieved looks on the other students' faces. You'd think that he had just dismantled a nuclear bomb and saved the world from destruction. They would've clapped and cheered had it not been under such weird circumstances.
I stole a quick glance at Charlie, his facial expression remained indifferent like he didn't seem to have been bothered by it either way.
Sitting down, I glanced around and found that there were still a few people giving me dirty looks, clearly unhappy with the way I almost made their ears bleed. I noticed the ones that were most affected were the ones with green ties and silver and gold buttons. In other words, all the ones who have undergone their transformations.
I felt a flutter of excitement. Although I'm 99% certain going by what I already knew and what I have witnessed with my own eyes, I just needed to test my hypothesis.
