She took a step until she had reached the front door. Before holding the knob she made sure that she was wearing her fabric on her neck and she does wearing it. The door creaked. Her naked feet started to feel the cold breeze. On this night, the surroundings are dark because of the absence of the moon but the stars are visible but not enough to lighten below. The silence of the night was deafening.
Her eyes are being focused on the surroundings and ready for any action. After a half-minute of staring around the surrounding, she had convinced herself that no one was around. When she bowed her head she saw a rolled paper tied up in a small stone just like yesterday. Her eyes widen and her heartbeats get a little faster than normal.
"Again?"
She whispered.
She slowly picked up this rolled paper with her right hand. She took a last glance forward then immediately closed the door and go to her bed. She sits and slowly opens her hands. She felt really curious about this. She untied it then slowly opened this rolled paper.
'TOMORROW EVENING '
These were the two words written from that rolled paper.
Her eyebrows are suddenly getting closer to each other.
"I can't understand. Tomorrow evening? What is there in tomorrow evening?"
She presses her forehead with her left hand while still wondering what was behind in this letter. It seems that she felt tired in thinking so she lay on her bed while still holding the paper. But in a few seconds, there was an idea that was suddenly appeared in her mind. She immediately picked up another paper on the floor that she had thrown in the previous night. She read it again.
"Meet us... And tomorrow evening?" After a few seconds of silence then she speaks up again.
"This is connected. Meet us...meet us tomorrow evening..."
Then she lifted her head. She felt scared for she doesn't know who is behind this. More things appeared in her mind. She cannot bear her turbulent mind right now because it's getting far away from possibilities. Shaking her head slowly might help her confusion to get away from her mind.
"Who are they?"
She said then forcibly lay herself in her bed. Looking at the ceiling while holding her head by her both hands. She was still wondering why they wanted to meet her or it was just trapped.
Another mysterious night bygone. The alarm made a loud sound enough for her to woke up. She made it stopped then do the things that she always does every early morning before going to work.
She closed the door after stepping out. Her attempts to walk forward to wait for a bus have stopped when a dying voice catches her attention. She traveled her eyes to the surroundings.
"F-Fontana... Fontana."
It keeps calling her name.
"Fontana... F-Fontana... Come... come to me."
Finally, she had found where the voice was coming from. At her left side, and in the dark corner after the house of the Ramirez family, she could slightly see Shan who was bleeding severely.
"Shan... Shan? Shan!"
She suddenly rushed in the direction of Shan then immediately kneel her knees down to see the situation of this young man.
"Fontana, thank you for coming..."
"Shhhh...Shhh... Please don't speak right now."
Fontana feels very sad and pitiful for him. Yes, she didn't know what kind of person Shan was but it was not important for her for humanity still flows in her veins.
"No, no... Let me speak for the last moment of my life."
His tears dropped.
His neck was bleeding but the fabric was still coiled on his neck. His hair was almost covered in blood and as well as his clothes.
"Shan... Shan, tell me. What rule did you trespassed?"
Shan slowly chuckled.
"Oh come on Fontana. I didn't, but someone does."
Fontana stopped for awhile then open her mouth again to speak up.
"You're too young to die..."
What silly words came out of her mouth. Young or old was not exempted from death. Of course, she knows it but she can't hold back her feelings about losing Shan.
"You are making me laugh in the midst of throe."
"Please stop saying any words, your blood is continuously flowing out from your body. I'll heal you. I will help you."
"Fontana listen to me, please... You knew that you can never heal me. There's no cure. "
Fontana made him stopped by her immediate talk.
"What if there was? Who knows."
"No, please... A rule is a rule. No one can change it even the king. I know that you knew it."
She realized what Shan just said. Her tears slowly falls down from her eyes.
"Go on... Tell me what you wanna say."
While eyes are looking at the ground, not on Shan's.
He slowly holds the hand of Fontana, holds it as tight as he could.
"I am sorry if I will break my promise right now in not disturbing you anymore but you know how I had felt for you? It was the very first time that I had saw you. Wearing a blue fabric coiled on your neck while eyes were swollen..."
He stopped and chuckled then continue to talk.
"In the first glance of my eyes unto you, I had felt the strange feeling that I had never felt before. I felt inspired by you. You change my life. Every evening I am the guard of your home while you sleep so tight."
Hearing the lasts words made her eyes look at him directly. An idea suddenly strikes in her mind. She thought that Shan knows about those papers.
"You-"
Shan stopped her.
"U-until now... I still love you. I tried to forget you but I can't. What was with you that keeps me adoring you? B-but...it doesn't matter anymore. I don't need the whys and hows I just wanted you to know that I felt this way for you."
Fontana's heart is likely gonna crushed into pieces in seeing Shan enduring this tremendous pain. The blood was now starting to flow also from his mouth.
"F-Fontana... C-can you hug me?"
Without any hesitations, she suddenly gets closer to him then slowly used her whole strength to lift him then puts him in her lap. Her head moves closer to him until her chin touches his head. And she wrapped him with her arms carefully. She could see the big wounds on Shan's abdomen. It was from big and sharp claws for the flesh was cut very deeply.
"O-one last favor... Can you...s-sing for me?"
She didn't answer him in yes or no but just start singing.
"Twinkle twinkle little star. How I wonder what you are. Up above the world so high..."
She continuously singing this song while Shan was letting his smile out. This song was the only song Fontana knows. Her mother always sings it for her every night before going to sleep. As she sings this song she remembers her mother again. Because she longings the love of her mother and for that her tears are now unstoppable. She continues to sing this song even if she's out of tune.
Shan slowly closes his eyes then fell on an everlasting sleep.
When she knows that Shan was gone she continues to sing and stopped when she finished her second repetition of the song. She sobs loudly.
After almost a minute of sobbing, she stopped then made herself see what was behind the fabric on his neck. Then she saw a wolf.
Every day there's a minimum of thousands of people died in this whole world. This world of Woe's was being in anguish. Some people pretended not to care for one another but deep inside their souls were crying for peace. They are all slaves of rules. It matters for them if they are within beast or cherub but no one knows where they belong except themselves.
His body was being picked up by the responsible organization. And Fontana's desire to go to work disappeared after all.
Sitting at her bed while her clothes are stained by blood. Her eyes are swollen and wet by her tears at the neck and by her sweat over her whole body. She stands up then walks straight to the bathroom. Took a shower again and wear new clothes after.
She sits on the floor instead of sitting on her bed then lays down. The floor was too cold and she could feel it but for her, it was relaxing. She was concerned about her absence from work. She was sure that the manager in their team would be very angry with her but right now she doesn't care.
Because of what just happened to Shan she desired to know more about who was behind these mysterious notes. She thinks that this could be the first step to her aim, answering the wonders in her mind. After awhile, she remembered that Shan was a victim of an offender.
"You shall die too."
She said coldly.
"If I were you, I wouldn't do that. But actually, I am not you and you were not me."
A smirked at the end appeared but slowly back to being serious.
She takes a sit from laying down then stands up and goes to her cabinet where it was at the side of her bed. She opens the first case and gets a notebook with a plain cover which was color blue. Then sits in her bed and starts to open it.
On the first page, there was a big written word which was 'RULES'. Then she turned to the next page. The words that were written there was;
-Must cover the neck.
-To see is to believe, kill without the full approval of the eyes shall die.
-If cannot control your beast then kill the prey.
These were the rules that she had observed in her surroundings since she was a kid. But these rules are not yet complete and she knows it in herself.
She pointed to the second sentence and spell it out.
"To see is to believe, kill without the full approval of the eyes shall die."
She suddenly remembered the man at her workplace who died because of becoming weirdly rotten and eyes were bleeding.
It was the effect of doing actions carelessly, hunting their presumption prey but not. But the answer that she wanted to find was, 'When and how does this scurvy world begin?', 'Is there a beginning or end?', and, 'Who was responsible for this all?'. And of course, she will never forget about her parents.
She put the notebook on the side of her bed then gets the radio. They used it to hear the announcement of their king which was King Suduro Chee. She hopes that she could hear any announcement from the king to be updated. She doesn't always open the radio to hear the announcement because for her it has still no use. The king just announcing about not caring for everyone even if it was the family of someone. And announcing sometimes the rules to give them awareness about it but Fontana can't catch its time when the highness was talking about rules.
She pushes the button to make it on.
The radio starts to sound but just a sound of having no signal or being disconnected on the line. She attempts to just switch it off but she stopped when finally the voice of their king suddenly appeared.
"A pleasant morning to all of my people. All from the west, east, north, and south please hear me. I, your King, Suduro Chee wanted to remind all of you that we are having a big problem. There is a creature that must vanish for the time would come that this person shall kill all of us and all mankind would disappear without any trace."
Her eyes widened. Wondering if who was this person that the king was referring to. And she feels like she trembled a little bit for at the last words that the king had spoken unto them was very sensational.
"But in this time, it is not yet the time for all of you to know who was this. The time is not yet right for me to tell. I just want to say that be watchful enough."
Then the sound that was first presented appeared again. She switched off this radio and was being driven into more curiosity.
