Chapter 33 - Game 24: Practical Test

Time walked by and now it's already the fifth day of school. We had orientation on the first day and an entrance ceremony on the second day. We had our regular class the last two days. Basic knowledge of magic, mana, and Wizteria's history. To be honest, it all makes no sense to me. First and foremost, I am already familiar with high level magic and mana manipulation, but Olivia-sensei is simply too beautiful for me to not unconsciously gravitate toward her and eventually listen to her lecture. Her voice is just so sweet.

Also, the thing about the Wizteria's history makes no sense. The teacher appears to be teaching according to the book, but based on what Benjirou said, I believe there is a conspiracy here. Well, it is none of my concern. For the time being, all I have to do is protect Ellisbeth while I'm at the academy. Other than that falls out of my duty.

Anyway, the last two days have been spent talking about this and that. The whole time was even taken over by Dio's stories about his complain on being a noble, and his agony of not having a lover until now. Just so you know, I don't have a lover either!

Today is another day of class, but today is different...

"All right, guys, please proceed to the MBA Practice Hall and gather."

..we are having a Practical Test.

A practical test is a test that assesses one's ability. However, because we are on the western continent, physical strength and tactical battle ability are not emphasized. The passing method here is how powerful your magic is and how quickly you can cast it. How powerful the output is and how precisely you can direct the magic's path. And also, how you control your magic output.

We don't have any specification of the magic to use in the exam. In the first place, Elemental magic here is exclusive to each noble houses. For example, the Royal family's flame magic and the blaze of the Duchy household, which Ellsworth leads. The three other major families in the Kingdom are also endowed with powerful magic. Dark element, Light, and Ice.

The lower houses can use magic base on the faction they are in. They can use blaze magic if they are in the de Blaze Duchy faction. However, they will not be as powerful as the main Elemental user. That is also why no one dared to oppose the prince and the third son of the Afton family.

That's a strange topic to me, because in the VLF, as long as you're in the Magic Continent, which is the west, you can learn magic if you're willing. This system... it is simply class discrimination, no matter how you look at it. I never imagined that I would see a Classical classicism in my lifetime.

I've heard that prior to Alice, there was a lot of discrimination against people from lower houses in this academy. But, thankfully, when she took over the role as a headmaster, she erased that thought and transformed the academy into a place where everyone can harness and refine their magical abilities. As I thought, Alice is not a fan of belittling. But, in my opinion, she is a big fan of what we call a sadistic personality. After all, she enjoys teasing people. I do love me a mature beauty, so I have no complaints.

And also before I forget, Ellisbeth is not here. They say that the Head Houses are not supposed to show their magic abilities to events such as this. It's a bummer. I want to see how powerful she is, but I can't do anything for that. For now she is with Mai. I wonder why Mai is not taking the test as well?

Here is the practice hall. As you can see, it's not as small as you might think. It is not some kind of club room or the likes. The size of this hall is comparable to that of a gymnasium. Because the MBA is unnaturally large in size, the hall should be as well. No, wait, perhaps their size standard is simply unnatural.

"Is everyone already here? If so, let us begin the practical test."

Olivia is as stunning as ever. She's beautiful even just speaking. Hey, I feel like I'm about to enter forbidden territory here! Actually wait, maybe I can work it out? There is no law that says it is forbidden for a teacher and a student to love each other! Kukuku! Hehehe!

"Master, you are making a nasty expression..."

"Ah, sorry."

Andrea saw through me... Actually let's stop that kind of thought. It's dangerous in more ways than one.

"First, let me show you how to do it; as you can see, we have our target items."

She said this while pointing in front of us. There are three of them.

"Those target items are made of special metals; your grade will be determined by how quickly you destroy them all, did you understand?"

"Yes, miss Olivia!"

Olivia took a step forward as we responded in chorus.

"Okay guys, please pay attention."

She stated that she would demonstrate, but she does not have any magical items with her. She doesn't have a staff, wand, or anything of the sort... wait, don't tell me!

"{Light Magic! Light Ray!}"

Olivia stretched her arm towards the target with her palm open. As I thought, she is a natural born magic user! She does not require any type of amplifier to cast magc. Most importantly, she simply cast a magic spell in a Half chant. I can use magic without an amplifier as well, but I didn't expect Olivia to be on the same level as Benjirou. That caught me off guard. A "Natural born magician" is extremely rare in VLF.

On her open palm, a magical circle began to form, which was directed at the targets. As it completely formed a beautiful magic circle, a long light in the shape of a lance appeared and rushed onto the target. Because the magic she just cast is light-based, it made no sound. However, the effect was just as flawless as the caster. It made a perfect whole at the center of the target which Olivia claimed to be special metals.

So Olivia is a member of the Light Magic faction, huh?

She faced us after putting on an incredible show. And adjusting her clear glasses, she said with a natural smile,

"Well, that's how it is."

Thump! What in the world was that?! My heart suddenly skipped a beat! Her slightly flushed face makes an indelible impression on me. That smile... is dangerous.

Teachers are formidable, after all...(Olivia gained points from Guren. In more than one way.)

A-anyway... Following her demonstration, it is our turn to shine. Well, not actually show off but to do some proper magic. I have the ability to obliterate this entire area with a single shot, but let's not do that...

As expected of the Magical Kingdom, almost all, if not all, of the students here can cast magic in a "short chant." The output of their magic is also at the decent level. Dio can use Flame magic, so I'm guessing he's from the Royal family's faction.

Fire, water, earth, light, and dark magic all howled inside the practice hall, as if we were having a fireworks display in a lower area. I don't see any who uses wind, but that is none of my concern. I'm new to the class, so my turn is at the very end. Andrea is sleeping, so I guess I'll get my turn before her.

They're all finished now, and it's my turn. To avoid suspicion, I borrowed Dio's magic amplifier, a wand. And, because I'm always with Ellisbeth, I'll use blaze magic. That way, I will be recognize as an affiliated individual with the de Blaze household.

"Yuiren-kun, it's your turn now."

"Yes!"

I took a step forward.

Blaze, if I recall correctly, is a bluish flame. Yosh, got it.

"{Blaze magic! Blazed Arrow!}

Control the count on just 3 arrows. Reduce the magic output to a bare minimum. Just enough to annihilate the target. And finally...

"{Release!}"

BOOM!!!

——

"AHAHAHAHA! KUH! HAHAHA!"

"Don't laugh so hard!"

Alice is the source of those malicious laughs. She's happily celebrating the results of the practical exam with such amusement.

"No, I mean... pfft! Hahahaha! To be the single one to fail the practical exam, you are amazing Guren! Hahahahahaha!!!"

"I told you not to laugh so hard, and I'm also ashamed of myself for failing a magic test!"

That's right, I failed the test in the end.

"Even so, destroying the Practice hall which is enforced with barrier magic. You sure are something Guren-chan! Hahaha!"

"I said don't laugh! And don't call me with -chan!"(Note-"chan" is a Japanese honorifics that are usually use for children, lovers, or person one find endearing )

That's right. I failed on my "magic control department." And here I am at the Headmaster's office after being called for destroying the Practice hall.

"Cough. Don't worry about it; I wouldn't make you pay for the damage you did in the practice hall..."

"Phew..."

Thank God! I have absolutely no money with me! I'm poor as hell!

"...but"

Huh?

"'but' what?"

I have a bad feeling about this...

"I have one condition..."

As I thought!

"A-and what condition may that be, Madam Headmaster?"

"Fufu, no need to be so stiff... I will tell you when the time comes."

"Ah, shit... here we go again."

Ah... I got myself in a very messy situation again, haven't I?

...To be Continued...
