"Alexander, your father is no more."
Alexander couldn't understand what he just heard. It was like yesterday he has met his father. He lived in the locality near the palace. His mother kept him hidden from the knowledge of the whole kingdom for most of his life because his life was in danger. The traitors and ill-wisher of the kingdom would have used him for their sick desires. He was frowned upon by other kids and elders.
They called him and his mother names. He had gotten into fights many times because of it and he wanted nothing more than to hurt them for hurting himself and his mother because of their ill words. His mother has told her many times not to get into such fights, he has better motives in his life, but he never listened to those.
He still remembers how one day his mother went across another village. But she never returned. The group with whom she was coming back was robbed and found mercilessly dead. Her dead body was found a little far from the main location as if implying that she was trying to run but was found and killed. He was now an orphan. With his father unknown to him and his mother died. There was no one to support him and motivate him throughout his life. That was when his father came to find him. He could see the resemblance with his father's but he was yet confused and declined his words. But when the king showed him the letter of his dead mother, he accepted.
Throughout life, Alexander was treated as a commoner, a common kid. He has grown up in the shadow. Spending whole life as common helped him in knowing the need of his people better than anyone. No passage, no route was hidden from him, he has spent half of his life exploring and living in them.
His father has taught him everything he needs to know to become a good ruler but he did not tell him how to fight.
His father was a man of kind heart, he believes in solving matters by talking and fight only when exclusively required. That was where his general came in.
His father's general taught him everything he was required to know about wars. Both taught him many things and different ones in his life. But in the end, it was him who had to learn all things. Be it as they said, on his own, a little mix of both or maybe something else.
"You have to take your rightful place on the throne. Its emptiness can create chaos."
That sentence alone was enough for him to remind me of his current situation.
"Make the preparations."
He was being crowned. He knows that his parents would have been very proud of him. But due to the unfortunate events, they are not present. He knows that they will still be giving him their blessing from wherever they are and they are always going to observe him and be with him. He could now see the crown which is going to be placed on his head. The crown when placed on the top of his head, he felt a little weight of it but suddenly he remembered something.
"The weight of the crown does not depend on the element of which it is made but by the weight of all the responsibility it comes with. Even the feather could be heavy and the heaviest gem could be lightest."
Those words made him realize his current situation. He was no more the commoner he lived his life as. He was no more the warrior he was trained as. He was no more the unknown prince he thought as. He was no more the one with a shelter but now he is the king. He was now a ruler, a provider, a protector, and most important, he was now a leader. His shoulders are no more relaxed and weightless but now he has the most weight on his shoulders. He was no more the one who carried no weight, but the one who has the most weight on his kingdom. And now, he has to get in as one.
"Today, the Sovereign undertakes to rule according to law, to exercise justice to innocents and punishing accordingly to guilty."
Before he could be crowned as the king, he had to go for a war. To say he was pissed, will be an understatement. His blood boiled at the thought of someone trying to harm his people. With his jaws clenched and rigid body, he knew what he had to do. All his life his father taught him to devote his life to his people.
"A king is a leader whose strength, weakness, life, and death revolve around his people. A king who does not live for his people is good as dead."
The words of his trainer and his father were still deeply engraved in his brain. No matter the consequence, he was taught to be a good ruler. That was what he intended to do but in a different way. He won the war and defeated the ones who threatened his people. But the war gave him 2 things. 1. he was known as Beast because of his blood lust towards his enemies; and 2. A scar across his right cheek.
It was the situation of sudden misfortune that he was thrown into the place of the king in his late adolescence. Rather enjoying his youth he was now made the king of the people he grew among. But it also had a downfall. He was now not only known as a beast or king. But rather his people, the sole reason for his existence, have started calling him a murder. It broke his heart and wounded him deeply knowing that his own people were cursing him, blaming him, and frowning upon him rather than respecting and loving him.
His father was a kind and generous ruler, too good, as some say, but yet a mere rumor has turned them against. No one favored or cared that he was a son who has recently lost his father. The one who recently became an orphan.
Everyone accepted and believed the rumor that he has killed his own father for the crown. Although it was a complete fake statement, a mere rumor without any proof, but yet it didn't stop them from believing it. After coming to know all these things. About their thoughts, their words, the rumors, and their beliefs towards him made him felt hurt and turn colder towards them. It was then and there he decided that if his people can not think properly and decide to continue to blame him for what he never did, then he will become what they believe to keep his people safe.
He walked in the courtroom with stiff shoulders, clenched jaws, and emotionless cold eyes. The eyes of all the courtiers were focused on him the moment he entered. They were giving him side-eyes.
They desire to control him, confuse him, and keep him in shadow so they can strike when they got the chance. They have tried their best to misuse his father but since his father was kind, his people loved him nonetheless. He wanted them to know that he can not be used and it could clearly be traced from his strong and dark aura.
They visibly slightly flinched when he looked at them after taking his place on the throne. His eyes were calculative. They were noticing the moves of everyone present in the courtroom. From there frown to their shuffling of feet. He was observing them as if a beast watching its prey. Calculating, observing, and playing with its prey.
"My father is dead."
His words were simple and straight. He observed the behavior of the people present in the courtroom. He observed every single expression and movement of them because he wants to know who among them was courageous enough to play a part in the murder of his father. Soon, his eyes found him but he has to wait and act unknown to his intentions. He will rather kill him when he will catch him red-handed than putting him in the dungeon.
"I am your new king since I am his sole heir. We will bury him in three days while the court will continue doing its work as usual."
Because of the sudden occurrence turn of the activities, he didn't get the chance to be married. Every king before him was married before their crowning ceremony. The council and courtier saw it as a way to make him seem unfit for the ruling. They tried to create an objection but he was not willing to be controlled by them. Especially for a reason as such.
Choosing a queen means giving a leader to his people chosen by him. He knows that if something happened to him, then his queen will be the one in power. He can not put a princess in that position. He doesn't want someone who wants the rainbow that others see but the one willing enough to face the storm standing beside him. And he believes, he will find one with time but now is not the time.
"Are you all suggesting that at this dire time of need to be with my people, I should search for a bride? Do my council and courtier believes that I should think for myself before my kingdom?"
Throughout the day, the court went alright after that little commotion. Suddenly an old man who works in the royal stable came in. He wanted to bring his only daughter with him. She was soon going to be the turn of age, unknown to the darkness of the world, and has lost her mother recently.
The council made fun of him. Snickered and passed comments, 'An untrained maiden, what use could she of be?' And made fun of the old man. King Alexander knew about hard work which that man used to do. He remembers that the very old man once told him that he has not been his home for years. He can not leave as horses need to be ready all the time in need. He was a hard worker. With all the dedication he has shown to his work, the least he can do was to grant him his permission. He agreed and allowed him to bring his daughter as she can work in the maids' department. But, he also told him about his one more unknown condition. It was a fate, left to be sealed in the future.
