Chapter 31 - Bane

Evil watched the whole scene from about 30 feet away. She had followed Jarron at a distance after she realized he had taken her young and had blocked the bond again so she could watch quietly. When the baby started to scream the conflicting thoughts of running to its aid or drowning it almost made her die inside. She sat down in the tall grass just off the beach and sobbed quietly to herself. She wanted this all to end. She wished she could remember her life before the Disciples, before Jarron had found her wandering the desert, wondering what her parents were like, or even what she was like as a child before the incident that had taken her memory. Head in her hands, she went over the day she had gone on the mission with Jarron and Agassiz as she had many times before. When it was all said and done, Agba had let her go. She had fought, and fought hard for her body and minds sake and when she had failed the only thing she had left to do was save Jarron. And even though he had returned the favor, she felt less than saved. She wished she had just died that day, but Agba with his sick mind and better than thou attitude cruelly let her live. Live with the knowledge he had won, he had beaten her in every way. He knew she would think of him every day of the rest of her life even without the child staring her in the face with his sandy yellow eyes. That was just a bonus. He had truly taken her life without taking it. And for that she thought every day if she should just do it herself. What good was she to anyone anymore? Right side crippled with injury, half blind and half mad she truly had nothing left to give. She stood and looked at Jarron sitting quietly on the beach, rocking the baby, who had quieted down and felt sorry for him as well. He was stuck here just as much as she was; Agba had taken his life as well that day. What a sorry pair they were. She turned and began to walk away and then stopped and rubbed the center of her chest as a hard pull in her soul hit her suddenly. Her knees went weak, and she sunk to them still clutching her chest, and breathed deeply to steady her heart. She had never felt such a pull and for once in her sorry excuse for a life she felt a pinge of hope. Eyes closed and concentrating on the feeling, she didn't notice that Jarron had felt the tiniest bit of it too, even though she had blocked him, and was now standing in front of her. She looked up, eyes wet with tears.

"His name is Bane," she said, and Jarron leaned down and handed Evil her son.
