Chapter 61 - Friendly Greeting

The sun was high in the sky as it warmed the sands beneath its rays. As the warm rays embraced the sands it was the opposite in a tent that was pitched near a small water source as a dead campfire laid not that far away. A low rumbling noise sounded in the distance as a centipede was rushing through the desert sands as a figure was sitting cross legged atop its head.

There was a look of focus in the individual's deep and purple eyes as his outfit was torn and filled with dried blood. Polemos was just coming back from his hunt from his sixth Special Elite nest.

A few weeks have passed since Rose and Polemos had left the tribe and started on their journey across the Banished World. Polemos had finally reached the peak of the True Acolyte ninth stage as Rose was able to vastly increase her strength as she seemed to be near the peak of a Special Elite. They were also very close to the Minor Oasis as it would only take them only half a day to reach it as they were able to see it in the distance.

When Rose made it to camp Polemos slid off her head as he tore off his bloodied tunic and threw it into the dead fire. He spotted a couple new scars on his toned and tanned body. As Rose just headed over to the waters to cool herself off. As she headed to the waters Polemos lit a new fire as he raised a solid piece of sand to sit on as he was tired.

"Who knew those damn long eared jackrabbits were so damn cruel. Not only did they attack themselves and all those other beasts around them, they even charged at us without a shred of fear in their eyes. It seems like the cuter they are the more vicious they are it seems, as even those desert cats were emboldened to attack whatever passed their vision." He sighed as he pulled out a worn and used journal as he wrote all the discoveries from his last hunt.

The journal was filled with everything he encountered as he traveled the desert these past few weeks as he was interested in the habitats and patterns of all the beasts and monsters he came across. Mostly because he wanted to have an easier hunt or describe how they tasted as he enjoyed cooking them. As well as maintaining his progress towards increasing his strength. But the only thing that was able to increase was his Elder Spears throwing technique as it finally reached the skilled level while his other spells became more refined by combat.

"Hopefully I'll be able to increase my strength further as well as find a way to push myself to the next stage." Polemos sighed as he put the journal back into his necklace as he started pulling out skewers and placing them over the fire. "First stop should be the Mercenaries guild for information as well as to join it, then after that I should head over to that blacksmith to see if he can help me create some solid armor." He grumbled the last part as he turned and seasoned the roasting jackrabbit meat.

As much as Polemos enjoyed the brutal and bloody combat he was starting to get a little angry as almost all the clothes he had since he left the tribe were almost all rags or torn.

As he grumbled about his clothes Rose came out of the waters as she held a truck sized fish in her mandibles as she crawled near the campfire as she gorged herself in its innards. Polemos only smiled as he watched her.

'She's becoming more and more like her previous self as she's been getting stronger. Hell even when we practiced against each other I've struggled the entire time, she's even come close to killing me a few times.' He thought as he continued to watch and turn his food over the fire as he raised a larger block of sand as he pulled out an old map.

There were newer markings on the map from all the places Polemos visited as he updated it continuously. He was even able to mark where the mysterious Minor Oasis was located since that blacksmith wanted to look mysterious.

'I'll never understand why individuals want to remain hidden or mysterious? It's so pointless, if you're going to be famous or try to do something legendary just embrace it and don't hide it. Sure you'll gain powerful enemies if you do but, that should serve as motivation to increase your strength further. There's always going to be someone stronger or better but that doesn't mean you should stop improving.' He thought with a pondering look on his face as he took a look over the map.

Even during their travels Polemos was able to find a few of the bandits' locations that looked to be the ones that worked with the tribe. But he scouted because every time he tried to get closer he stopped as he noticed that every single one of the bandit camps held many individuals who were stronger than both Rose and himself. But it never stopped him from marking their locations so he could head back and destroy them.

"Looks like I really should focus on increasing my strength and knowledge when I reach the Minor Oasis, I'm definitely not the strongest around since even a bunch of bandits or raiders are stronger. Why are there so many of them near the oasis though? I guess I'll find that out when I reach the Oasis tomorrow."

He sighed as he still had many unanswered questions that he needed answers for, as he put away the map as well as got rid of the raised block of sand.

"At least I reached the peak of the Acolyte stage, so I should have some type of strength in the oasis. Just hope it's something that can provide protection for myself, but I wonder how they'll act when I arrive with Rose tomorrow. Ah I guess I should see their stance before I arrive then. She's not gonna like that."

Polemos had a wary look in his purple eyes as he looked over to Rose as she was still gorging herself in the innards of the truck-sized fish.

He just shrugged as he continued to turn and focus on his lunch. He listened to the blowing winds across the desert sands. It was a peaceful and calm feeling but Polemos knew that it wasn't going to remain that way, because he felt the moment he entered the oasis, things could potentially turn sour. But even if it did it wouldn't bother him as he was expecting it to happen.

As the sun started to begin it's descent the skewered and roasted jackrabbit meat was done as Polemos pulled it off the fire as he observed his cooking.

"Perfect." As he took a bite he smiled as the taste was phenomenal and not at all gamey as he thought. As he ate he pulled out another book but, it wasn't a journal it was one of the books that had a flaming fist on it. Opening it as he read and ate, enjoying himself.

When he was all done he threw his skewers into his ring for his cooking as he continued reading his book as he was almost done with the final book.

"Gotta admit, this has been one of the better books I've read from all the ones I collected from the tribe. I wonder if more was written as it seems like this isn't finished." He smiled slightly as he put the book away as he stood and stretched. "That was a great lunch, hey Rose all done, how about a quick spar?"

When Rose heard Polemos she lifted her head from the truck sized fish as blood and viscera covered her face as she hissed a long and eager hiss.

"Ssssssssss."

"Perfect." Polemos laughed in a loud and eager manner also, as it looked like he glided or skipped across the desert sands with ease as he awaited his opponent. Rose watched as she saw him get ready but did something that made Polemos raise his brow and smiled wryly as she burrowed into the sands. Luckily for him though she popped up near him as she positioned herself and hissed.

They continued to practice all the way till the first moon was starting to crown on the horizon but, during their sparring they made loud rumbling noises that caught the attention of multiple individuals in the Minor Oasis as some even sent out their scouts to see what was causing the noise. A few bolder ones got closer but, as they got closer, Rose noticed as she stopped and hissed loudly.

The few bolder scouts who wanted to get closer flinched as they stopped, not daring to get closer as they were startled by Rose's loud and angry hiss.

But when Polemos saw the few in the distance he only smiled slightly as he looked at the individuals who came close and introduced himself.

"Why hello my guests from the oasis. I'm Polemos the Mad One and this is my partner, Rose. We are only sparring. Don't worry, just head back and report. I'll be visiting early tomorrow morning but I do have one thing to say." His eyes went cold as he maintained the same smile and spoke as blood flowed from his wounds from sparring. "Remove that bloodlust it's pathetic and do what you're told as a scout."
