Chapter 11 - Dawn of humanity

It has not been confirmed when the human race began, or how we came to be. Like every other mythical creature the human races' origin is clouded in mystery, even the gods would not tell us... However, it was recorded when the dawn of the human era began.

In the magical world of Anvil, there was a time when the world was ruled by the dragons. So great was their ferocity that all other mythical creatures were overcome by terror and concealed themselves.

With the Dragon king leading them they reigned supreme suppressing all other mythical beasts and exterminating all dungeon monsters that they came across... But one day there was a great battle and their king fell. His generals scattered spreading across the world of Anvil. With the dissolution of the dragon empire all other creatures who hid themselves came out of their holes and their activities on Anvil began the start of the mythical age.

The human races dwelled in small tribes and clans forming primitive societies. Living each day on their toes and uniting together to contend against horrendous monsters and mythical beasts. And for some time humans adapted and when they were on the verge of entering their next stage of societal development... The demans arrived.

With superior technology, strength and battle knowledge they subdued and captured us. And for hundreds of years humanity were slaves and tools to the savagely arrogant demans whose only difference from them were their horns and sometimes incandescent eyes.

There were many times humans rebelled, but each time they where brutally suppressed, with deaths to all who where related to the uprising. Although slow humanity finally realized a crucial difference between them that they neglected, and that was knowledge.

Due to the need for knowledge on what made the demans able to grow very strong so quickly and how they could use so many mysterious powerful skills. A few brave but bright minded individuals led a surprise assault on a city library they stole numerous books and fled through a recently dug underground tunnel out of the city and into the wilds.

They then decidedly to share the knowledge and separated into three groups. One to the south, one to the east and the last northeast. These would later become the founders of the three great empires.

Years went by and society bloomed in those regions and with the influence of the deman culture humanity brought in their first King and his name was Guran Agert and his kingdom was named after him.

He was strong, charismatic and wise in battle. He tamed a wyvern when he was but a youth and a dragon long after he became king. But unlike others he treated them as his friends not as tools. Over time the demans completed their research on runic formations and through it they discovered runic magic. The deman who headed this research challenged the ruling deman king to a death duel and won, thereby becoming the new King and exterminating the old royal family.

He was far more cruel and viscious, feeding humans to the magical beasts they did research on. Guran hearing of it could no longer tolerate this, deciding it was time to drive the demans off the continent back to where they came from across the sea. He therefore invited the King of Zun north of his Agert and the heads of the merchant alliance southwest of Agert and they had a heated discussion along with their advisers whether or not to ignore the cries of their brethren. The meeting ended with Zun agreeing to provide resources from behind the scene not wanting to directly provoke the demans and the merchant alliance backing out completely deeming it an unprofitable venture. Guran with moral standing on his side and the support of Zun led a great army and his formidable wyvern knights to the far west where the demans had built a great kingdom by the sea. He engaged the demans in a brutal war which lasted weeks, in the chaos many humans where slaughtered and others luckily fled.

Some escaped after taking with them the knowledge and treasure of the demans. These later formed the many powerful kingdoms in the central continent we see today.

The deman king seeing that his generals were having a hard time eliminating the petty humans. Finally took part, he alone with great magical prowess forced Guran and his elites back causing them to suffer great losses. Guran himself was beaten close to death before he was rescued by his dragon. With this defeat Guran knew his goal could not be fulfilled and for many days he wept in his camp. Seeing this, his dragon Ollo could no longer bear it. She headed to the lava fields east of the kingdom of Agert, to the lair of the fire dragon bowed, pleading before Yerruth, a general of the former dragon king who preferred to abscond himself from the activities of others. At first he was disgusted when he heard that Ollo was the servant of a lower race and wanted to kill her on the spot. But when he heard of Guran's strength and the way he treated Ollo, he found Guran to be an interesting creature and so he promised to defeat the deman king for the respect Guran had given to a weaker member of his race.

One day the deman king in his magic research room suddenly received a powerful foe. Yerruth demolished the city in the process of their battle making the deman king change the battlefield to a place far from his magic research room by fleeing. The battle didn't take long before the deman king was forced to escape his demise. He used an incompleted teleportation spell which sent him to a random place to escape.

But here begins another story...

Now there was a powerful hermit by the name Karma, no one knows the clan where he originated from. All that we know is that he was a swordsman who had a dream to create a sword skill that could cut anything. With an old sword he trained on the mountains, by the stormy seas, in the desert, he went everywhere trying to find inspiration. Then one day he had it!

Trying not to miss this insight he channeled his magical energy and struck out with his sword. Suddenly before his blade was where the deman king randomly appeared. The deman king, a frighteningly fast caster sensed the danger and casted multiple instant defensive barriers in an attempt to protect his life. The barriers that the great warrior Guran had a hard time breaking with his brilliant axe skills where nothing before Karma's old sword. That day the deman king was parted like a knife through butter and his reign ended.

The deman generals seeing that their King's 'life stone' no longer glowed, feared for their lives and made a hasty retreat along with many others back to their continent across Ullo's bay, leaving many valuable resources behind.

Finally, with the decisive assault of Guran's knights the deman kingdom fell and all humans where released from their captivity. The demans that surrendered where hurdled on boat and sent back to where ever they came from at Guran's order despite the heavy protest from his aids, for his goal had been achieved and he believed that enough blood had been shed on that day.

Weeks after the war despite the losses Agert faced, their rewards where huge. As they took all resources the deman's had stocked in their treasury, all books and even the deman king's private magic research!

Over the years the kingdom of Agert received more citizens than they could manage and their territory increased to a size that dwarfed their neighbours.

Seeing this, they then changed their name from the Agert kingdom to the Agert empire. They rewarded Zun richly by sharing a lot of what they had gained in battle, in the process building a tight bond that lasts too this day and leaving the merchant alliance out of the cake for they never helped in the first place. Guran in his old age remembering what the red dragon Yerruth had done for him, took all the shiny things he could find in his treasury and loaded them unto wagons and headed towards the lava fields. Legend has it that the procession of wagons was so long that it could make a straight line through the current Agert imperial territory.

The dragon Yerruth received the gifts and was pleased. Yerruth rolling in his new bed of treasure asked Emperor Guran if he had problems that troubled him. Guran told him of his issues regarding the way to handle dungeons and the hassle it brings him whenever a high tiered dungeon pops up suddenly in the middle of a city. Yerruth after some thought gave him advise and instructions on how he could solve this and make the most out of dungeons. Going further he made a promise to protect his empire once should any calamity befall it. The Emperor Guran hearing this was exceedingly glad. He went home and organized a nation wide feast, giving abundantly to the poor and destitute.

That day would then be celebrated yearly in Agert as Yerruth's day, with that promise still standing till this day.

"Uaah!" Riot yawned he was getting tired of waiting, his anticipation towards learning his new powers made him feel like a horse waiting for his master's orders to run wild across the grassy plains.

He kept the books back, walking towards Cain while stretching.

He then sat before Cain looking at the soft white fur that covered him. Having a thought, he touched it while feeling his own hair.

Hm, feels about the same.

Cain then slowly opened his eyes. Riot immediately got into the act kneeling on one knee and bowing. "Master, master! Your loyal tool awaits your orders." He said with a serious face.

Cain stretched cutely on the rock, looking at him you couldn't associate him to a godlike existence.

"What do you mean tool? You are my heir. Although, I want you to avenge me that doesn't mean I can force you to." He jumped down and started walking towards the north.

Riot followed. "What do you mean?"

"You could chose not to avenge me. You could even join the gods and become friends and I wouldn't be able to do a thing because by then I would already be dead." Cain said this with a straight face, revealing no emotion.

Riot eyes widened. "Then how are you sure I wouldn't betray you after your gone?! Or was it all just a gamble?"

"Each of us were given the right to chose who our heir would be by the higher existence. I chose you for two reasons." Cain walked on leisurely as he said this.

"Two...reasons?"

"Yes. The first was your character. After browsing your memories I came to understand that you tried your best to keep your word. Heh, though you failed at it most of the times." Cain glanced at him.

"However, this was just a mundane reason, after I browsed the memories of millions of others I discovered that there where too many like you. Who value honor or had a kind of irrational ego to fulfill your promises... The reason I chose you was mainly the second reason. You might not believe me but we have the same dream. Even the method you thought of to fulfill that dream was shockingly similar to mine."

Riot slowly frowned. "It was just the delusions of a starving man. I know that... that dream was stupid."

"In the world you came from indeed it might have been stupid, but what if I tell you... That it is possible here."

A glint flashed passed Riot's eyes. Which caused a smile to creep up Cain's face.

Cain stopped and looked at Riot. "I just wanted you to know that we have the same goal. Better yet the same conclusion to fulfilling that goal. With my confirmation that it is possible, I hope you that you can work hard, not mainly for my revenge but for our goals."

Riot covered his eyes and smiled. "I understand..."

His grin grew wider. And then Cain and Riot began laughing mischievously all of a sudden.

Cain then cleared his throat after noticing his undignified actions. "Everything you need to know will come in time. For now you must focus on increasing your strength. There are many who would spare nothing to come after your life, keep this in mind."

Riot nodded. But Cain sat stood still staring intently at Riot's head. Making him give Cain a puzzled look.

A moment later, Riot walked on with a lion cub using his head as it's bed.

"You really just like lazing around don't you!?" Riot complained.

After the heart to heart talk they both had Riot had begun to act more freely with Cain. Cain didn't seem to mind anyway.

He had been walking for a while now, he then realized that Cain was guiding him deeper into the forest, which made him alarmed. "Um...Father, where are we going?"

"Just call me Cain. This forest is where your training takes place."

Riot signed and said. "You do know that deadly monsters roam the deeper parts of the forest do you, even leaving monsters aside, many plants are carnivorous and the insect are highly poisonous. With my frail grade F body how do expect me to live long enough to avenge you?"

"Don't worry I'll guide you away from things you can't handle. Besides, this is the best training ground for you, if you can't even survive this how do expect to face the onslaught of my enemies."

Riot nodded and smiled. "Say master, you don't like me do you?"

"What?" Cain had a puzzled expression.

Anyway, it seems like life is just about to get a tad rougher. I'd better make good use of this period to gain strength. If could really fulfill my dream by following Cain then... I will follow him to the end!

But though he had this thought there was still a slight uncertainty hidden in his eyes.
