Chapter 23 - Happy Thoughts For Tonight

[GRANT]

"Gideon, no!!" Grant shouted as Alanor landed a punch on the man before him. However, his rejected mate took the punch, making Alanor step back in shock.

He had never thought that he would ever lay a hand on Grant, but this little bitch had made him do it. That alone made Alanor furious. The man with a running mouth was the reason he had hurt his mate.

If Grant never found a mate, Alanor was ready to be his substitute mate, even from afar.

"Out of the way, Grant," Alanor said angrily when he saw his mate clutching his stomach in pain. He wanted to help Grant, but then that would make people know the bond between them. Alanor couldn't let that happen.

Sure, he could defend and take care of Grant here and now, but that one action could shift all the targets to the mate he had rejected in the name of keeping him safe. And that would break Alanor's heart, again.

"If you want to attack him, you will have to go through me," Grant said and the stupid beautiful man he was defending spoke up at the same time that Alanor spoke.

"I can defend myself," the man who was saved by Grant said, and Alanor ignored him. Something had happened here and Alanor could feel it too, however, he focused on the mate he had rejected.

"Is he your mate?" the young Wynter asked, carefully like he was worried everyone would hear the sound of his heart breaking.

Alanor didn't care about what the idiot had said, but he wanted to hear Grant say it. He wanted to hear Grant say he had gotten another mate.

Was Alanor that replaceable?

Was he not worth fighting for, or holding on for?

While he had been thinking of Grant all this while, the moon goddess had already given Grant a mate?

What was Alanor then, a joke of the century?

Alanor could feel his heart break for the hundredth time. He hadn't expected this. The delay in Grant's response was scaring him, and he wished he hadn't even come here. It had barely been three hours since they had gotten here and he already had a mate?

Damn, the goddess was truly having a field day breaking the young Wynter's heart.

"Fuck," Alanor said as he sat on the nearest seat. The crowd around them had grown smaller, but people were still in shock too.

If Alanor had paid attention to the murmurs and gasps around him, he would have heard he worried they were. Everyone here knew how dangerous Gideon of Greroth was.

He had a reputation of being one of the most ruthless warriors in the midlands and warlocks in Greroth.

Gideon was power reincarnated. And yet the man he was scuffling against, was having the same power, only that Alanor's was hidden because he hadn't yet known himself and his full abilities.

If he had listened, then the young Wynter could have known that he was arguing with the deadly lycan prince, the man who was way scarier than Edison and had been holding back all this while.

Alanor would have realized that he was bantering with the only child of the man he would be murdering in the coming months or years.

The lycan prince of Udrad.

Prince Unar Stitt.

"Get up, and don't you dare refuse. You punched me, so you at least owe me an audience," Grant said angrily to Alanor, forcing the young Wynter to get up. He wasn't exactly mad at Alanor, but this was the only way to get him out of this crowded place.

Grant had seen people go back to what they were doing more so because they were scared of Gideon of Greroth. They didn't want him to burn them to ashes like the rumors had said, and they didn't want him to sleep with their mates out of spite for them.

"What are you even doing, Grant?" Delbert asked Grant in the mind link, but the werewolf warriors didn't even bother responding to him. Besides, Delbert already knew the dilemma between Grant and his mate.

He also knew that Alanor was not one to handle things silently and if Grant was careful, then his twin would shame him again. Delbert didn't feel bad for Grant, no. He was just worried that the man would be rejected twice in a span of two months.

And no one deserved that, even if they seemed brainless at times and when they were thinking with their hearts.

However, even then, the junior warrior had kept his distance as he knew that his involvement in whatever Grant was doing right now would put Delbert in the spotlight and his brother would definitely not want anything to do with their tin bond.

Besides, Alanor had already lost too much, and Delbert didn't want to introduce himself to him, if he wasn't going to stay beside him. There were things that Delbert had to do in Acord.

He had a family to take care of and he wouldn't just leave them because his brother wanted him to, right? But what if that happened? Alanor would definitely not want anything to do with him, because Delbert's children were still too young to even face any reality.

"Be careful, alright?" Delbert said and Grant nodded before shutting the mind link between him and his packmates.

He knew that this was risky, even for him. But what else could he do? He had sensed his own mate a few meters away, and the fact that it was the pack omega, Nour Abdallah, didn't sit right with Grant.

He had always hoped that he would get a stronger mate, that he would be powerful and have someone to defend him. He didn't mind who came along, he just wished that he could have someone who at least had the same abilities as Alanor.

Someone who would be able to think with him.

The omega he had sensed was his second mate and goddess, Grant hated that with all of his being. He despised that idea and he hated that shit would always not work out for him. Maybe he was meant to be alone through and through, right?

'No. I can't deal with that right now,' Grant said to himself, as he looked at a hopeful Nour. He knew that what he was about to do would break the man's heart, but then it wasn't like there were so many options for them to be choosing form, right?

He didn't want an omega for a mate, and that was also why, instead of going to mate, Grant made his steps towards the pace where Alanor Wynter was. He would always consider Alanro as his mate.

His only mate.

Grant looked at a worn-out Alanor. He looked so damn good, but he had the temper of a hundred Edisons. Alanor was uncontrollable and frankly, helping Alanor here was a gamble for Grant.

The man had rejected him before and had even punched him today. So what were the chances that Alanor would even listen to him? Fuck, it would be embarrassing if Alanor pushed him away, but Grant was not going to think of that.

'Positive vibes only, warrior,' Grant said as he looked at Alanor. Frankly, they both looked like shit, however, Alanor's brain was a messy maze on its own. He was full of regrets for doing the one thing he shouldn't have done.

He had hurt his mate.

Fuck.

Alanor didn't even have the strength to look at his mate without feeling stupid and cruel. He didn't mind being cruel to everyone and anyone, but when it came to Grant, he had to draw the line.

The man was his fucking erasthai for pit's sake and he was here hurting the same man?

What the hell was even wrong with him?

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to. I would never hurt you like that, I'm sorry, please. Please forgive me," Alanor said, the words getting out of his mouth even shocking him. He had never even begged for shit in his life and here he was asking for fucking forgiveness?

Damn, Grant surely had to mean something to him and he didn't want to lose him, because the Alanor everyone knew, was cruel and had an ego the size of three midlands.
