Chapter 116 - Unexpected guest

However, Yana picked out the wrong choice. She hurried back and took the right corridor. Yana would be lying if she said that the darkness of the hallway didn't faze her. It wasn't that Yana was afraid of the darkness, rather than that it was the fact that it was so quiet, it didn't matter if the faint noises of the reception lingered, here, it was as if a void took over and swallowed everything whole.

With each step Yana took, her high heels vibrated on the ground. This hallway seemed longer than the other one, however, just as Yana wanted to give up, in the far back, there was a faint light. A door stood slightly ajar, causing a tiny bit of light to seep into the darkness and bring forth a glimmer of hope.

Yet this hope was a double-edged sword because once Yana got closer, she saw more than she wanted. As she held herself against the wall, she peeked into the room briefly but one look was enough to figure everything out.

This was where the real bigshots gathered. This was the so-called VIP room. Just like in the club, several leather chairs spread across the room and several men sat there either drinking or smoking cigars. From the hallway, Yana heard their heated conversations and even smelt the smoke.

There were a lot of unknown faces but Yana recognised two people. One was Mr Rosaneli and the second one was Mik. He was the loudest of them all. He sat next to an older male and seemed to be trying to curry favour, even Mr Rosaneli seemed slightly, yet only slightly, polite with this strange male.

However, as much as Yana tried to listen to their conversation, it was impossible because many voices mingled together and overrode each other. Yana couldn't make out which belonged to who and the content discussed. Yana felt exasperated and wanted to lean closer to listen but suddenly her ears picked something else up.

Footsteps! Approaching footsteps! They were coming Yana's way and were definitely heading towards the VIP room. Yana didn't calculate that someone was still coming and this was stupid of her. Having seen the open door, she should've guessed that there wre still guests who didn't arrive yet.

Quickly, Yana's hands fumbled behind her and gently pressed down the doorknob that was right next to her where she stood, however, the door was locked! Yana started to feel anxious. She couldn't move right to her since the VIP room was there and the light gave her away. She also couldn't continue to the left because that was where the person came from.

Yana could walk to the opposite door but doing that she briefly blocked the light from the door which might also reveal her presence if the person paid attention to it. Yana was at a stalemate.

No matter which option she took there were all risks, so the one with the least risk would be her chance which was the opposite side.

Taking a deep breath, Yana steadied her posture and with as little noise as possible, she reached the other side and tried to open the doors as the footsteps came closer. Even though Yana felt anxious, her heartbeat was normal and her movements calm.

To her luck, the door opposite the VIP room opened, so Yana had a diagonal view of the VIP room while she stood in the dark of the room to peek.

Regulating her breath, Yana waited until the footsteps stopped in front of the VIP room and a person came into sight. However, this person didn't walk into the room immediately, instead, they halted for a while before turning in Yana's direction.

Although experiencing a tiny scare, Yana didn't move and stared back at the person because she knew they couldn't see her who was hidden in the complete darkness. However, any rash movements could be heard and give her away.

The person only looked towards Yana's direction for a second wondering if there was someone but having stood in front of the door longer than they should, voices from the VIP room called out to the person.

The person had no other choice but to open the door and step in, but as they did so light fell onto their face and a gasp stuck in Yana's throat.

Why was she so surprised yet not surprised at the same time? Why, for some inexplicable reason, did a part of her expect him to be here?

Who else could this person be than Luka? His shift must've ended already and he came here later than she did. Yet although Yana wasn't too shocked about his appearance here, her heart stung slightly, and somewhere deep inside her heart, she hoped that Luka wasn't associated with the organisation.

His presence here meant that he mingled amongst these people and was bad company for Yana. Even if he wasn't with them, he indeed had an agenda of his own or else why would he appear here? The more Yana thought about it, the more confused she became.

She didn't know what to think about it, all she knew was that she wanted to get out of here. The more she stayed in the same place as Luka, the more she wanted to escape. Since Yana couldn't hear what they were talking about anyways, she didn't bother to continue ligner around here.

This bit of information was enough, so she made the decision to leave. She closed the door behind her and rushed down the hallway until she arrived at the reception again, where seeing the masses of people, she breathed a sigh of relief.

However, what Yana didn't know was that after Luka stepped into the room, he lingered at the door and saw a shadow rushing past. His intuition told him something as Mik stood up when he saw Luka.

There was tension in the air before Mik smiled at Luka professionally and reached for the door handle behind him.
