"So, you're stuck here because of Luka?" Yana generously shovelled the food in her mouth while Bao started his scold, "Yes! I was just on another date back in our city when suddenly my boss pulled me to come here because-" Bao stopped and realised the true culprit!
Yana! Bao glared at Yana who was confused. Then Bao thought that Yana was also a poor, unfortunate soul and victim of his boss and Bao instantly had a better opinion of Yana again.
"It must be hard on you. Luka, can be really inconsiderate," Yana smiled and scooped some food onto Bao's plate who started to panic and looked around. W-What if his boss popped out from somewhere and saw how Yana treated him better than his boss? Bao's life! Lost!
"I-I can do it myself," Bao quickly grabbed the spoon from Yana's hand and shovelled a large amount of food onto his plate. What was Yana's purpose? Bao started to get suspicious of her.
Being with Yana was a rollercoaster for Bao's thoughts, feelings and heart. He had to tread carefully, A- Because his boss might pop up any second and B- because Yana was doing something that didn't seem like her!
Yana noticed that Bao saw through her and subconsciously put up his guard up again, so to coax him, she said, "I really just want to thank you. I feel like you have the wrong idea of me and I want us to get along because in the future we'll interact more often. Definitely…" the last word Yana said signalled Bao another misunderstanding.
So that was Yana's intention! The way Yana said it, sounded like she was troubled and Bao felt sympathy for her because he understood what she meant. Luka! Because of his boss, Bao and Yana would need to meet more often since Luka was relentless about chasing Yana, hence Yana wanted to get along with Bao so he could help her escape Luka.
Bao was conflicted. He worked for Luka, so naturally had to help his boss but now hearing Yana's side Bao also felt bad for Yana and understood her hardships.
Yana wasn't interested in Luka, even Bao could see it, so being clung onto by him must be very annoying for her.
Bao did feel like wanting to help her but he couldn't disobey his boss, after all, he was the one who paid him and honestly, Bao also saw Luka as a friend. Their relationship was close and not that of an employer and employee only.
Luka helped Bao a lot when Bao finally confided in Luke about his goal, although there weren't any results, Bao was still thankful to Luka for doing everything he could to help Bao. So, Bao couldn't betray Luka. On the other side, Bao thought, apart from minor flaws, Luka was a perfect partner.
Bao couldn't understand why Yana didn't like Luka. Was there anyone better than Luka? Bao wouldn't have these complicated thoughts if he didn't misunderstand Yana. Meanwhile, Yana only had the simple intention of coaxing information out of Bao.
"What do you say?" seeing that Bao was lost in thoughts, Yana asked him again.
"Huh?" Bao came back to reality and became flustered, "Ah, no, I'm sorry but I can't help you with that but don't cancel the blind date because of this! Have mercy!"
"What?" Yana was stunned, "I'm not asking you to do anything. I just want us to get along."
"R-Right…" Bao laughed feeling a bit embarrassed blurting it out.
"Also, I won't cancel the blind date, I've promised after all."
"Yana!" Bao's eyes were full of gratitude. Yana was indeed an angel.
Yana, however, the devil disguised, seized this opportunity to squeeze Bao dry, "Why have you started working for Luka? With your skills, you could become a CEO yourself."
First, start with flatter and strike while the iron is hot.
"Me?" Bao laughed again, "There's no way."
Bao knew of his shortcomings. To become a CEO one had to be ruthless, decisive and had to have a certain charm and aura to lead people. Bao had neither of it. He was only suited for the job he was doing.
"Then don't you have any aspiring dreams you want to aim for like becoming an artist, traveller or whatever? Or do you like your current job? Why have you decided to work for M.M?" Yana asked many questions that were quite personal, but her relaxed, casual tone and posture while she ate made it seem like they were only doing small talk prompting Bao to let his guard down.
"That's…" Bao thought for a while.
At first, he started to work at M.M just because the salary was good and he happened to be picked up by Luka even though the interviewers only wanted to give him a low entry job.
So, Bao was also thankful to Luka in that aspect. Together, they've worked until Luka became the CEO. Bao knew the secrets of Luka and they trusted each other. So, in a way, Bao was working with a friend, although that friend could be really unreasonable.
In short, Bao and Luka went through several things together and their bond was deep. Whatever may come, they always stuck up for each other. Luka helped Bao many times and Bao in return assisted Luka until his position today.
Neither was inferior to the other but because Bao respected Luka a lot, he still called him boss. It felt weird to call him otherwise.
"First it was because of the money, then because I like working for my boss," Bao answered honestly and Yana was stunned again. Luka really picked out a great person, huh?
"Isn't it also because Luka gives you a better salary than anyone else could?" Yana teased and smiled as she watched Bao cough, "What do you take me for?"
Yana could list many things just like he did to her back then but held herself back. Her goal was to smooth things out and not mess them up.
"Someone who needs a lot of money?" Yana took a wild guess and answered. The glass of water held up to his mouth froze briefly then his resigned voice rang out, "Is that so bad? Wanting money?"
"It's not. It's actually good to know what you want," but Yana saw the pensive and slightly painful expression on Bao's face and knew she hit a personal spot, however, she thought it might help her understand Bao more, "What do you need the money for?"
Bao didn't answer for a while but then, it wasn't clear if he wanted Yana to know or if it accidentally slipped out but he said, "Because I want to find someone and… because I want to know the truth."
