Chapter 104 - Rich people

Yana's hurtful words managed to keep Luka away from her for the rest of the day. Yana would be lying if she said she wasn't at least a bit worried about him.

After the lunch break, Yana here and there snuck a glance at Luka and each time suppressed the biting feeling in her heart when she saw how lethargic and out of it Luka seemed to be.

Usually, he was always very friendly and even energetic with the customers, the total opposite when he was in his company but now he was a lifeless shell forced to pretend to be a living human.

Yana sought to rid herself of the guilt by reminding herself that she has already made it clear to Luka several times before and it was his fault for not listening and continuing clinging onto her.

In the blink of an eye, it was time to close the store again. Setting the matter with Luka aside, Yana had more important things to do. Since she met Marga this morning, Yana was waiting for work to be over and find out the truth behind her words.

The manager came out briefly and said, "Good job," before he checked everything.

"See you tomorrow," Yana waved him goodbye without paying attention to Luka.

She deliberately didn't look at him to miss the lingering gaze he gave her. Outside the store, she quickly rushed off. It was only 6 pm. The club meeting usually started from 9 pm onwards, twice a week.

Today was one of the two days. Yana had enough time to go back home and check out the address that Marga left behind. Once inside, Yana pulled out a backpack and filled it with a rope and a hook, a listening device and put on Bluetooth earphones. After making sure she had everything, Yana changed into something more athletic and comfortable.

Then she left the building and hailed a cab. Luckily at night, the protests started to disperse making it possible for cars to use the streets again. The driver pulled up in front of the gate.

Yana gave him the address and sat on the backseat hugging her backpack. With the earpiece in her ear, she made sure that the listening device was set and could work.

Afterwards, Yana leaned back and closed her eyes but unfortunately, the driver was the talkative type, "Miss, are you going to see your boyfriend?"

"I don't have one," Yana politely answered and smiled.

"The place you are heading to is quite posh, rarely do I get any customers who go there," the driver sighed. He was a middle-aged man with an exhausted face.

"Guess, I'm an exception."

"I don't want to pry but you best be careful."

At these words, Yana sat up straight and leaned forward. She was going to the rich area where all the powerful people lived. It wasn't like she went to a place notorious for crimes and violence.

"That's the first time someone warned me about going there. Is there a reason to be cautious?"

Yana saw that the driver looked at her through the rearview mirror and sighed, "I just heard some rumours that the police had to go there several times. Although I'm sure it's not that serious."

Yana got curious, "For what reason?"

"Apparently noise problem. Loud arguing and the neighbours couldn't take it but I've heard," the driver licked his lips and got serious, that it's the doing of a new person who moved in. Has shady stuff going on. You best stay away from anyone you don't know. Rich people are those with the vilest secrets," the driver sounded very convinced.

Yana thought for a second. Someone new moved in and that person is arguing loudly to the point that the neighbours had to call the police. There were rumours of that new person doing whatever shady stuff.

Could it be that this person was the one Marga spoke of? A new member in the high society circle of City A? Yana was now more and more curious about the identity of this new person. It was obvious that Marga was displeased by them and now according to the information of the driver, there was a reason for it.

"Do you know where this person lives? Close to address I'm heading to?" Yana wanted to know more about this person and debated if she should pay that person a secret visit too.

"I don't. These are just mere rumours though, but you can't help not to be too careful," the driver coughed.

"I see," Yana was disappointed. Well, there were opportunities to come in the future and hopefully, she could see this new person at the club too.

After the driver started coughing he stopped talking, "Sorry my throat's dry."

"Don't worry, drink enough water."

Then a while later, they arrived in the quarter of the city where the upper-class lived in. The moment the cab pulled through the large gate that separated this part from the other parts in the city, it was as if they entered a new city.

The sun was already going down dying everything in a red and orange tint but this only magnified the beautiful scenery in front of them. One could really not compare a place where rich people lived with common places. There was too much of a difference.

One mansion with large yawns and several expensive cars after another lined up perfectly. They all formed a small rectangle before it was surrounded by a larger rectangle of mansions. Although the layout seemed simple once inside it was almost akin to a maze.

Now that Yana looked at the place, she seemed to have miscalculated. Yana was sure that there were surveillance cameras in front of the mansion and to get to the front door, one had to pass the long space of gardens and lawns. If Yana just walked up to the mansion, she would most definitely be discovered.

"You can just let me out here. The rest I can walk."

The driver, more than happy, agreed. He could finally drink a few sips while Yana handed him the fare. After the cab drove off, Yana looked around before she pulled out the map on her phone.

She decided to wait until it was dark before making her move. Until then she had time to explore this place and get familiar with it. It might benefit her in the future. As the driver said one could not be too careful. Staring at this posh place somehow Yana got an eerie feeling.
