Chapter 79 - No thoughts

"What did I just hear?" the pacing Seli walked up and down in the living room while Melinda rummaged in the kitchen to put Yana's bought groceries to use.

"We can only trust Yana,'' Melinda sighed and worriedly looked at the TV screen.

"But there's no way we can just sit back and watch! To the police station! We've to go there and testify that Yana wasn't the one! If it wasn't for her then we…we'd be burnt alive! If Yana was the culprit, she wouldn't have woken us up!"

Seli couldn't believe just how stupid the police and public were.

She wanted to immediately barge to the news station reporting and give all the public a piece of her mind that was slandering and ripping Yana apart online.

"We have to do something!" Seli finally came to the conclusion. Yana has done so much for them, took care of the orphanage when the director abandoned it, took care of them and the kids, how could anyone portray Yana as vicious?

"Stop it, we'll only be a burden," although Melinda also wanted to help Yana, Yana explicitly asked her to be level-headed since she knew that Seli would do something because she could be quite hot-headed.

For now, Melinda and Seli couldn't do anything. Their job was to take care of the children. It was a good thing that they were still sleeping or else chaos would erupt if they found out Yana was in trouble.

The trauma of the fire still lingered in everyone, not only the children but now Yana had to suffer through another one. It really didn't sit right with Melinda and Seli. They believed in Yana.

"I'll call! At least I can do that and give them a piece of my mind!" Seli was about to pull out her phone when Melinda came running and stopped her, "Don't cause trouble!"

Seli was usually a very outgoing and bright girl, it was only in rare times like this it showed how stubborn and reckless she could be. Yana was right, Melinda really had to keep track of Seli.

Ding Dong.

Suddenly the doorbell rang.

"I'm holding on to this," Melinda put Seli's phone into her pockets, "Go get the door, the food's not ready yet."

Seli puffed her cheeks, "Ok, ok," before she made her way to receive the guests. Her head was still fuming with all kinds of thoughts about Yana's situation, so she was a bit rude when she ripped open the door and stared at the smiling man, "What?"

"Dear Miss, you don't seem to be in a good mood," the man was tall and slender. His features weren't bad but they were average at best. However, the most prominent thing was his smile. It seemed a bit sleazy but also like that of a snake's. Seli was a bit taken aback and immediately on guard.

Although the man seemed friendly, Seli was getting a different vibe for him, "If you know it, please make it quick. We're in a dire situation," Seli didn't bother with the man who nodded understandingly, she only wanted to know how Yana was doing.

"It's miss Seli if I'm correct?" stunned that he recognised her, Seli finally gave him her full attention, "How do you know?"

"Ah, it's because Miss Yana has told me a lot about you."

At the mention of Yana, Seli's ears perked up and she excitedly started to ramble, not noticing the male's eyes flashing briefly, "Yana? Really? What did she say? I can't believe she talked about me! Ah, I'm happy but this is not the time. Why are you saying this? Who are you?"

Despite Seli being reckless and not thinking things through, she also knew when to exercise caution and right now the man was weird and his intentions unknown.

"Pardon me," he bowed elegantly, "I'm working for M.M company, please call me Sam."

M.M… wait was he with the CEO?

"Are you directly working for the CEO."

"Of course, it's as Miss Yana said, you are very clever," the eye smile of Sam encouraged Seli to be flattered, "I'm one of his assistants."

Seli thought that Sam was very polite and all of her previous suspicions were thrown away. If he worked for the CEO, the CEO who obviously liked Yana, then Sam definitely wasn't a bad person.

He might also be here to help Yana on the CEO's orders. The thought that Luka was already here as Yana mentioned it, so there was no need for his assistant to come, crossed Seli's mind briefly but she threw it away as Sam said, "My boss is very concerned for Miss Yana. Is she here?"

Seli shook her head, "No, she left not long ago. Why are you asking?"

"Ah, it's because Miss Yana's situation isn't very good, since Miss Seli is smart, you must have already figured it out already, right?"

"Yes, yes! It's really infuriating, even though it wasn't Yana's fault at all, they still pin her as the culprit," spurred on by Sam's compliments, Seli let her guard down completely.

"I understand your anger, I'm also very troubled and worried for Miss Yana," Sam looked sad enough for Seli to buy it, "That's why I'm here. My boss would like to request your help."

"My help?" Seli was perplexed. How could she help? Although she did say she wanted to do something, how could she be of use for the CEO?

Seli should've noticed that something was wrong but Sam's words slung around her like a snake until its fangs bit into her neck and let venom numb her brain.

"Miss Yana has always cherished Miss Seli to the point that my boss believes in your abilities. Now seeing you in person, I can see why Miss Yana has always talked so highly about you. A beautiful intelligent woman like your is the last hope for Miss Yana and us, without your help it'll be impossible to prove Miss Yana's innocence," Sam took Seli's hand and planted a light kiss on the back of it while his eyes charmingly smiled at Seli.

These kinds of words, these kinds of gestures and this situation made Seli feel like she was in a novel. She could live out her fantasies! Of course, she also wanted to do it for Yana but Sam's words were so enticing that Seli couldn't help but feel she was about to become the heroine in a Cinderella story. Flattered by a CEO'S assistant, needed by a CEO, being the only one who could help, wasn't this rising from nothing to everything by proving herself.

"I-If I'm of use, of course, I'd like to help!" Seli's eyes sparkled and she was lost in thoughts.

"Miss Seliis making a wonderful choice," of course Sam already knew what kind of aspiration this caretaker had, what dreams she fantasized about, so it was easy to manipulate her. Sam licked his lips and continued, "Is miss Melinda also here?"

Seli came back from daydreaming. Melinda? Seli couldn't implicate Melinda, after all, someone had to take care of the children and also, just a tiny bit of her wanted to take the full glory and not share it with Melinda, so Seli said decisively, "No apart from me no one is here. Melinda took the kids to get a checkup."

Sam was quiet but then bought her excuse, "Ok, then shall we go?"

"Please wait, I need to get my jacket," Seli actually used this as an excuse to inform Melinda she had to take care of something and ran away quickly before Melinda could catch her. Then she took Sam's hand and followed him out, not knowing what awaited her and not knowing that her lie actually saved Melinda and the children.
