Wandering around aimlessly turned out to be a bit of fun, only because Yuki could hack all the doors passcodes and she was also able to connect into the camera network and would loop the feed while they were breaking into areas they shouldn't be in. She was also inside the PFED network and had it display they were in their room just in case anybody should be monitoring them that way.
Also thanks to Lucks enhanced area perception they avoided most people who might have seen them, and when it was unavoidable he would activate the self cloaking field from the nanosuit so they had remained undetected.
The most interesting place they found was where they were currently. Which was a heavy equipment storage area. Inside was a large amount of aircraft, tanks and something Luck had only seen before in games and on TV. Massive war robots that towered in the room ranging between 15 meters to 60 meters tall.
There was 30 such massive engines of war stored here. Appearance wise most of these war machines were roughly humanoid shaped, but with thick lower legs, no head, and an oversized torso. Forward-oriented main weapons were mounted directly where the arms would be, with a massive weapon that looked like it possessed 360 degree targeting capability, rested where the head should be. Various types of multiple rocket launchers were built into the shoulders and there were additional weapons all over the frame.
Not all of the great war machines were completely humanoid in design however, some were more arachnid in design with 8 mechanical legs, some ran on thick tracks like a bulldozer etc.
*Think you could control one of these?*
[System - Probably, but not before it vaporized me. There are dozens of fail safes and back up systems and even deadman routes built in that I can see, just by looking at them. Also that's if I could get through the layers of energy shielding and each of these has its own sort of intelligence from the AI installed on them or something else that gives them a small amount of autonomy, that I can sense.]
Luck wasn't sure he could do much of anything either in the presence of such engines of war. Each one had to weigh thousands of tons or even hundreds of thousands for that matter, crushing one with his mind was a fools dream he thought.
Layers of ion shielding protected the entire chassis and beyond that were more layers of reinforced armor plating. He had no doubt that these machines of death and destruction were a leading reason for why humanity was holding their own in this universe.
[System - We should leave, trust me when I tell you that these things are very much alive and they know we are here.]
Taking her word for it they both left as fast possible, only when they made it back to the classroom did either one of them feel their skin stop crawling.
Lucks primal instinct had been warning him of extreme danger, while Yuki had her own methods to know when the instruments of death stopped tracking them. Only when they made it back to the classroom did she relax a little. Except Luck didn't relax at all, as he kept adding layer upon layer of psychokinetic force field's around both of them.
[System - You can stop, those machines are not tracking us anymore. Strange though, the war machines seemed to possess a will and spirit of their own.]
Yuki could feel a connection to the great engines of war. However they were made, it was likely similar to how she came to possess a mechanical body herself. The technology clearly wasn't as advanced as her own universe but it wasn't that far behind she thought.
*Alright, well let's not go back there again agreed?*
Retracting his own layers of shielding the two pass their time quietly while waiting for the other members of the squad to show up, Yuki also takes the initiative to fix the broken table. Luck also passed her the two rocks he got from the summoned creatures.
When the squad arrived, the first one to return was Oliver who quietly took a seat. Luck used the chance to ask him all sorts of questions to see what he knew about the squad and what they were expected to do.
Apparently cadets were promising recruits who would be groomed into officers, or they could remain as either solo operatives or remain in a squad when they graduated.
Individuals with a lot of talent were given a lot more freedom with their future military endeavors than those without talents or ability. Their little squad was called the rejects mainly because lieutenant Kiera got recycled back into the cadet corpse following her injury. Well that and Mark had already made himself well known among the other cadets as a problem.
As for Oliver himself, he was a all rounder who got moved here to help stabilize the squad. Everyone would get assigned their roles, whether it was support, offense or defense.
Right now Kiera and Mark was considered the squads offense, Luck and Yuki were the support and Oliver could either work as defense or offense depending on the situation.
The squad was still missing 1 to 2 more people and they would likely be specialized in defense. Whenever the ship returned to Humanity's territory in the Imperium they would replenish supplies and this included people so he figured they would get the rest of their members then.
Right on time Lieutenant Kiera had returned to the classroom and after greeting everyone minus Mark who didn't bother to show up at all. She gave the three of them a small quiz on the material she had distributed earlier.
"Can we just skip to the end of the coursework and take the test now?" Luck asks while gesturing to himself and Yuki.
"You think your some kind of genius? Fine, here's the end of course exam. This test covers 6 months worth of information and you have just started today, so good luck." Lieutenant Kiera said this very sarcastically but she decided to humor him, since he did save her life after all.
The test was delivered to them via PFED. Luck with his enhanced brains finished the test in what would have been a new record. That is if, Yuki hadn't finished the entire thing in a less than a minute. In the end it took him 10 minutes to finish the rather extensive exam, as it took just a second to read and answer each question before loading the next page.
When they were both done their score was sent to lieutenant Kiera automatically. She couldn't hardly believe they had finished so fast, as it normally took half a day even for the best students to complete the test. Neither of them should have even had time to read the almost thousand questions much less answer them.
It would take her the rest of the day and half the night to go over each answer individually but she resolved her self to do it and dismissed them for the day. Should they actually have passed the graduation exam, she would have to report it and come up with a entirely different training schedule.
After motivating herself to get to work she was going to make sure these two perfect scores were not obtained by cheating the system, as she had been told Yuki was a technomancer so it wasn't entirely impossible for her to mess with the test.
While she was going over every answer, she realized the written parts showed 2 different mind sets to solve the same problem. They hadn't cheated after all, she wasn't sure what to do now so she forwarded the tests to the cadet battalion commander to seek advice.
Meanwhile Luck and Yuki were continuing on their spaceship adventure. Apart from the various living quarters and some armories there really wasn't a whole lot to see. After finding another training center that was empty, the two went back to the cafeteria and had dinner before retiring to their room for the night.
"Well that's less exciting than I imagined." Luck says to Yuki.
[System - More boring news then, those 2 rocks we got from the lieutenant, we would need dozens of them to get anything out of it.]
Sighing lightly Luck decided to spend the night working on his psychokinesis control. Willing a thick thread of psychokinetic to appear he would divide it into two and practice controlling it. Then he would divide those two threads into four and continue doing separate tasks with them. Carrying on in this way he spent his time until morning while Yuki simply sat beside him, apparently content to watch him apply himself.
