Chapter 28 - Chapter 28 Jump gate

After receiving the test scores for Luck and Yuki, both of them were promoted to the rank of 1st lieutenant by the cadet battalion commander. Lucks classroom portion was effectively over and now he would participate in combat training with Yuki and Kiera.

For the next 3 and a half weeks the duo practiced fighting in a training center. It became apparent to Luck that Lieutenant Kiera might as well have had air for brains, as she was absent minded and spoke or acted on the first thing that came to mind. As for her ability to summon, she was limited to near mindless creatures that she could control and could only control two of them at a time.

As for a semi intelligent creature she could handle one, if she tried to summon something with more intelligence or power than herself. It would break free from her control and attack her. He learned this was apparently how she had gotten the injury that left her crippled when Luck met her.

Overall Luck felt this was yet another reason why the squad was nicknamed "The Rejects". During training Luck didn't bother to hide his Psychokinesis, as it wouldn't remain a secret for long anyway.

As he later found out, it wasn't terribly rare for people to have two different kinds of abilities anyway, so it didn't create a commotion when the higher ups received the report about it.

Occasionally Doc would get him to help out in the infirmary and every time he did, his bank account balance would go up a bit. Now that he was stronger he was not real concerned about hiding his ability anymore, so healing any sort of condition now only took a single glance and barely any effort on Lucks part and they were fully recovered.

As the time drew near for the ship to approach the jump gate, the same guy that initially escorted them through all the paperwork process came to get them for a meeting with the Colonel.

Following him back to the colonels office they passed the same giant guards as before. The Colonel was sitting at his desk waiting on them.

"We will be entering humanity's space momentarily, have you decided what you wanted to do next?" Colonel Rico asked Luck, getting straight into the heart of the matter.

"I'd like to stay, with the Sanguineous Ocularis. I think I could be of better use on the front lines with the 13th then bothering with figuring out a new living situation." Luck responds rather casually

Not receiving quite the answer he thought he would hear, Colonel Rico gives the two a withering stare.

"Your full of surprises, both of you. Remarkable healing abilities I'm told and you are also a S grade Pyschokinetic as it turns out. You know your future could be whatever you wanted? Why exactly do you want to stay and risk your life with us?"

He had been well updated on Lucks progression and he was very pleased overall, he had thought trying to persuade him to stay would be a more challenging task and now that Luck was actually asking to stay he wanted to know why.

Looking colonel Rico in the eye, Luck answers calmly. "I need to kill to grow stronger, that's really all there is to it."

Hearing the boys answer Colonel Rico explodes into laughter. After he gets control over himself he says, "Welcome to the 13th, your going to get your chance for killing sooner than you think. As soon as we reach the jump gate, a ship will resupply us, and then we head straight into a warzone."

The Colonel activated his PFED and sent Luck a file regarding their next destination. "You can look over that later, for now I've upgraded your clearance level. Go to the armory and pick out a ranged and melee weapon, there are things out there that are highly resistant to psionic attacks. Your going to need a back up plan if you happen to encounter such a creature. That's all for now, your dismissed."

Rendering a salute to colonel Rico, Luck leaves the room and makes his way to the armory, while he sends the file over to Yuki to disseminate for him.

*That went as expected, so what's the warzone look like and when will be arriving*

[System - Its not good, we're going to arrive in 36 hours. This mission is practically a death sentence more or less. The planet is 50 times larger than earth and its been in constant conflict for the rare minerals there. Humanity joined the fight over a hundred years ago, with less than 10% survival rating for the first month even now. We will be stationed there for the next 5 years.]

Sending Luck the information so he could see for himself, his face screws up into a frown. Not from a information overload but from what the information he's receiving is telling him.

Practically every kind of race imaginable lived here and there were all sorts of different climate zones on the planet. There were already over a million Imperial guardsman stationed here and they were involved in heavy fighting every single day. Despite being here for over a hundred years less than 20% of the planet was explored.

He didn't even imagine that the 13th regiment would make much of a difference in a war of this scale with their small number no matter how well trained or advanced their weaponry was. That combined with half of the crew was going to remain on the ship and would be fighting a prolonged battle in space trying to keep other alien species from invading. The other half would land via drop pods and assault craft after a orbital bombardment to their own destination.

The planets name was Hope ironically. One of the reasons why was because 70% of all new technological advances in the last century were related to the planet itself. The rare materials that could only be found there and the recovered Xeno technology and specimens were critical for humanity.

To make matters even worse. The 13th special forces regiment had even been assigned the role of fighting their way through enemy territory and attracting hostile attention away from the other imperial forces. It was truly a death sentence, he was in full agreement with Yuki.

Even with all his advantages he didn't fancy his odds here for the next 5 years, while contemplating how he could be so unlucky. They made their way to the armory, the supply sergeant in charge had been called ahead so he was expecting them. He showed them the large array of weaponry that the colonel had made available to them.

[System - I can recreate and improve on practically all of this, so I recommend you just getting something compact and easy to use.]

After browsing for a while and consulting with Yuki, he settled on a large hand cannon that fired high velocity explosive incendiary bullets. The only draw back was it could only hold 4 rounds before needing to reload, which wasn't a problem Yuki reassured him as she could modify the weapon with a self reloading modification that would never run out of ammo, it would even change the ammo type if needed.

She could also install a advanced suppression system, making the weapon as quiet as a whisper. Seeing as how there were no downsides thanks to Yuki's advanced technology, and he quite liked the look and feel of the hand cannon and he made it his choice.

For the short range option he chose a wide bladed long knife that had a thick serrated back, it was essentially a machete. As for Yuki, she didn't get a option. Apparently the Colonels offer was only for Luck, but seeing as how she didn't care for the weapons on display anyway. It didn't matter to them, so they left the armory and headed for their room.

Once there Luck handed off the weapons for Yuki to work her magic on while he went back over the information about planet Hope. He needed to come up with a plan.
