It's been 14 days since the funeral, within those 14 days my life has changed drastically. Since Mrs. Jackson is my new guardian, I had to move to her home in another town far away from mine.
So I changed not only guardian but a town, home, school.
Though it was already in the middle of a session, but I was received in the school. I know I will not be missed in my previous school, I don't have friends there, they all concluded I am a freak.
Mrs. Jackson left me to grieve till two days ago when she told me I have to resume school today or miss the whole session.
If it was up to me, I just want to stay locked up in my room, in my head far away from the reality where grandma is dead.
I don't know if I will be able to go through the stress of a new school, I have been on the edge lately, I get irritated at little things. I will have to go through new faces and people who don't know shit about my life.
It's a good opportunity for me. My friends in my previous school were able to see my unusual nature because I was young when I discovered it and was not able to hide it.
Now I have been allowed to make people look at me in a different light.
After dressing for school, I stare at myself in the mirror. I had dyed my white streak black to blend with my charcoal black hair. I brushed my hair down. I use eye contact to make my sliver eyes look brown. I am wearing black joggers and a white turtleneck sweater with black sneakers, with the final touch of black lipstick.
I have to fulfill grandma's wishes and make friends.
I don't forget the locket resting on my neck hidden in my cloth. My mother's only gift to me. I have come to terms that woman in the locket is my mother even though, I am not going to look for her.
After telling Mrs. Jackson I am off. I take my Audi; a gift from my grandma for my sixteenth birthday and drove to school.
I pulled into a crowded school park that was crowded with students beside their cars, talking amidst themselves.
I come out of my car, with my head up high, almost immediately as though something or someone announced my presence, everyone became quiet at stare my way, just as immediately as they became quiet, they started talking again among themselves like before, but the difference is that am now everyone topic if discussions. Don't they receive new students? I wondered.
No one approached me till I got to the office and met a woman that looks like she is in her late 70s or early 80s. She is wearing glasses and uses a walking stick. After giving me my schedule. She called a girl, Linda to show me around and also take me to class since we have the same schedule.
Linda is a very happy girl, she was quick to introduce herself to me and make me feel at ease with her. She told me about the school hierarchy, it is divided into two.
Lucien Thorne is the king of the school, anything he says goes. His father is the mayor of the town and also the owner of the school. So he gets away with practically everything. His best friend Daniel replaces Lucien's authority anytime Lucien is absent.
All the boys in the football team worship both Lucien and Daniel.
And there is Nicolette, Queen of the bitches, she is Lucien's twin sister, but where Lucien rules the boys, Nicolette is in charge of the 'bitches' as Linda puts it.
Her best friend Freya who is Daniel's cousin is the leader of the cheerleaders. But Freya is like a figurehead because anything Nicolette says goes.
Nicolette has a circle of tight allies, who are more than friends, they are her beloved worshippers and defender.
They are quick to protect and defend her if anyone defiles her. Their circle is so tight that not just anyone can join, even Linda aspires to join but hasn't even gotten close. They are all seniors like both Linda and me.
We have history for the first class and I was forced to introduce myself once the teacher came in.
"Good day everyone, I am Silver Annalise Jacobs, I am from Grass vile town, I just moved here."
After acquainting myself I notice the stare once again. It seems I will have to ask Linda about it.
It's lunch, Linda invites me to eat with us both her and her friend Janet, she is a close friend for Linda's, they have been friends since middle school.
"You must be Silver the girl, everyone been talking about"
"People are talking about me? Why? Because I am the new girl"
I asked and answers my question.
"No, actually people are talking about you because there is something strange about you?"
Janet says like a question like she is inquiring if there is anything strange about me.
I was processing what Janet said when Linda gasped and look like she saw an angel. I turned to look at what she is looking at, and wow she did saw an angel, since I got to the school everyone I had seen looked like models but this girl looks like an angel.
She is so pretty, the prettiest I have seen. She is accompanied by a girl that is also looking beautiful.
Everyone's eyes were on her, her presence only commands attention. This must be the Queen Bitch, Nicolette and the girl with her must be the leader of the cheerleaders Freya. But why is she coming to our table?
Everyone even looks stunned she is approaching our table, which means it is not something she does often.
She gets to the table and sits on the only spare chair leaving her friend to stand like a guard.
How rude!
"It's nice to finally meet you, Silver Annalise Jacobs."
Even if I am surprised she came to talk to me I did not show it.
"You must be Nicolette Thorne, it's nice to meet you also, but how do you know my name."
I asked with authority because her dominant nature is putting me on the edge, though I know how she knows.
"You are in my school, of course, I am to know your name, I will like to invite you to my home for dinner. I want to welcome you into the Thorne's Academy."
"Am sorry but I will have to decline your invitation I don't visit strangers."
The whole cafeteria became shocked like they could hear our conversations.
"Why would you turn down my invitation?"
"Should there be any other reason aside because I want to?"
I said forcing a smile because I felt kind of strange, I could feel tiny needles pricking my head like it is trying to get in, which is giving me a severe headache.
But I am trying to pretend nothing is wrong. She keeps staring at me like she is waiting for something to happen, I don't know what.
"No one turns down my invitation, I like your spirit."
"I am not 'no one."
She laughs but she is annoyed, she is just trying to keep it together because of the onlookers. She stands and Freya looks at me and says
"I hope you don't regret this."
"I am sure I won't."
