Chereads / To Touch The Sky / Chapter 7 - He Who Ended The War.

Chapter 7 - He Who Ended The War.

Lintel stared on in shock as the rain began to pour more aggressively. The lush groves of Ambigua had been tainted by the blood of their own people for the very first time. They fluttered in the sky as they stared at Flooks' lifeless body sitting on the spear of a sprite. He smiled from the honor of drawing first blood.

Lintel's usual calm expression began to crack as veins grew on his forehead and rage brewed while his teeth nearly broke off from the force of he gritted his teeth with.

"Flook!" Mljord cried out as thunder pierced the heavens, with all of the might she could muster, she struck down the sprite that had slain Flook, briefly removing the barrier of the forest which allowed the sprites to break into Ambigua.

She looked down at the forest and saw smoke puffing into the sky in dark groups of smoke. While she was distracted, another sprite managed to latch onto, nullifying her magic.

Swarms of Sprites began to smother Mljord as the fairies began to realize what position they were in.

"Barry! Report back to the king!" Lintel began to fly higher into the sky to lure as many of the Sprites away as possible.

Barry goes invisible as a stab is thrown out at him, he narrowly dodges as he becomes fully transparent. He rushes towards the king for backup but as he looks around, sprites are already ahead of him.

The vegetation of the forest begins to wither slowly and flames are set upon the trees. The vines of the trees look as if they're weeping as water dripped slowly from the heavens and onto them only for it to fail to quell the fire.

Mwop ignores the forest and focuses on the enemies at hand. She tries to bring a wave from the heavens down on the sprites but realizes what that'd do to the forest and her people. She instead decides to turn the surrounding air into water and puts the sprites inside of floating bubbles as they begin to drown.

Arry set the sprites alight, as the scorched remains of the sprites began to ignite the grass and trees. Embers fell with each attack Arry made, as the fires spread across the land, Arry wondered what his own people would think of him. The sprites began to surround him but caught fire as they tried to latch to him.

The sprites continued coming, it was as if they wished for death. The more of them that died, the more the fires would increase. Mwop was too preoccupied with the sprites to do anything about the fires on the ground as she continued to deplete her energy on the sprites.

Barry neared the king, just as he was about to fly through the door that separated the king from the outside world, he's smacked down to the dirt as if he were a fly being swatted.

"Thought you could hide with such a potent aura?" The voice laughs as it jumps off of a treetop and onto the back of Barry breaking both of his wings.

Barry screams out in agony as his wings crunches and scrunches while the perpetrator continues stomping down. Barry tries to hold back his cries as he crawls forwards on the muddy ground as flames began to approach with crackles and pops.

"Regil! Regil! We're under attack!" His words echoed through the groves as if it were an echo chamber.

"Noone can hear you, it'd be a pretty sloppy raid if they could, wouldn't it?" He cackles as he grabs Barry's wings and begins peeling them off.

Lintel flew higher into the sky so that no one was able to see the circumference of the forest. He led the sprites that followed him into the forest and into a trap he made years ago in case Ambigua ever came to be attacked.

Every day he left a small amount of his window inside of the groves. Every tree in the forest had enough wind magic in it to create updrafts strong enough to even break his wings if he were caught directly in the blow.

He flew downwards faster than the swarm of sprites could follow and awaited for them to reach him as he sat on a treetop. They darted towards him with grimaces on their faces as Lintel put his hand on the tree and it began to glow in a light green mist. The tree looked serene momentarily before it erupted as if it were a volcano. The sprites that'd been following him appeared to be wiped out and Lintel looked for his crew to back them up.

Lintel neared the castle and people had it surrounded, she saw the smoke coming from the forest and assumed that Arry had to have been the one responsible for it, the fairies, unaware of the circumstances, Regil rushed to the conclusion that Arry had betrayed them.

The king, Regil, decides to hear out their cries by bringing out Arry's heart and slightly crushing it, not wanting to kill him and to appease the people. The fires began to voraciously eat away the wildlife and groves, destroying trees that'd been there for hundreds of years. The king flew from the ground into the sky and saw all of the fire eating away at his home.

The king with melancholy in his eyes begins to crush the heart of Arry.

"Arry cover me!" Mwop says as she begins to flutter waveringly, exhausted from the use of her water magic.

"Oka-," Arry freezes, unable to flutter his wings any further, he slowly falls to the ground as sprites follow suit, making sure he cannot recover.

Lintel see's the king holding the heart of Arry in his hand, in anger he shrieked at the king.

"Stop it!"

The king looked at Lintel as he saw sweat pouring from Lintel's face drip by drip to the wood of a tree as the king continued to slowly crush it, not hearing Lintel's voice. He shot out a burst of wind to get his attention, nearly blowing him out of the air.

"Who did that!?" Regil says as his grip on Arry's heart tightened and the beating of it slowed nearly to a stop.

"King! We're under attack what are you doing to Arry?" Lintel shouts even louder as he rushes towards Regil as blood leaked down his palms and arms.

"Arry set fire to the forest! He broke the rules and now he'll atone for his crimes!" The king says as he crushes the heart more, blood leaking from it as it leaked to the grass below him.

Hmrid had left his castle in search of the fairy with his men, they scoured the place they'd first found her and began to smell of burnt lumber. They followed the smell as if they were rabid wolves looking for their next meal and saw the battle taking place. It neared the grassy forest that humans had never stepped into, fearing they'd anger the gods. It was only a rumor, but a rumor strong enough that none would meddle in it.

With precision, Hmrid jumped into the skies as the ground beneath him became imprinted by his feet and slashed at both the sprites and fairies, separating them from one another. Mljord was freed from the sprites that had nearly sucked her dry of her power and one of his men caught the falling Arry as he gasped for air on his descent to the ground in his palms.

"What's happening here?" Hmrid spoke as the fighting ceased, and for the first time, the smiles of the sprites faltered.

The sprites fled away at the sight of Hmrid and all that was left was the burning forest, Hmrid and his men, and the fairies. The remaining fairies fainted from exhaustion as their wings could no longer keep up with their wills. Hmrid caught them as they could no longer keep their eyes open and began treading into the burning forest.

"I say we kill them right now and tell the king we failed." A high pitch voice says with malice as Hubrid's robe becomes warmer.

"We can't do that, water magic and fire magic are especially rare, we'd have our heads lopped off for such a-... hey did someone leave the door open?" The sprite says as it sees a large face staring at it in nonplus.
