The sky shuddered under its own weight the twister ripped across the plains, it was a pretty typical scene in the part of America that had come to be called tornado alley. But to Lexington Corinth a native of Texas this one seemed a bit off. The newsman had been tracking it for close to 12 hours since it first touched down in northern Oklahoma and after he got a clear view of it Lex couldn't shake the feeling something was different about this twister compared to all the ones he'd seen before. It didn't seem to just pick things up and tear them apart like you would expect a tornado to do.
"It seems to just mutilate anything in its path. It's like it's made of razor blades or something" Lex thought to himself as he watched the tornados rampage.
Lex had never been one to care about details, but the more he looked the more strange this tornado appeared. Tornado was crackling with strange lightning and seemed to destroy everything in its path despite only being a category 1 tornado.Lex wasn't to worried about it afterall he had lived through worse.
"That thing is weird but so long as it stays away from here I shouldn't have any problems"
Unbeknownst Lex this tornado would not only change him but the world as a whole. This is what would come to be called as a
[Magic Storm]. It signaled that magic had finally started leaking out of the Earth's core in large enough quantities to affect not only nature but people and animals as well. Though that wouldn't be known until the first monsters and mages were created and revealed themselves to the world.
The newsman just said something that even surprised the uninterested Lex. The fact that the tornado hadn't killed anyone in its rampage across the midwest. That and the fact it had seemingly avoided all large towns and was making a mad dash towards the town of SpringFrosts.Which was very concerning to him considering he lives there.
"I really shouldn't have said that.Well maybe it will pass me by I live on the outskirts of town after all" Lex said talking to himself.
His hopes were dashed almost instantly when he saw the newsman point his camera at a small 2 story cottage. That cottage happened to be his house.
"l don't know who I'm more mad at myself for speaking this into existence or that blasted news anchor for repeatedly calling my house run down" Lex thought.
"It's not perfect but it's still my house, even if I don't legally own it" Lex reassured himself.
Well life ain't easy for a orphan teenager.Lex had been alone almost half his life after the mysterious disappearance of his parents and older sister at the age of 8.He had heard about his house by chance and after checking it out and finding a working well and plethora of solar panels, meaning the house had both free water and electricity moved in without a second thought.
Back to the present situation he needed to choose course of action to try and make it to town and chance running into the tornado away from any shelter or to ride it out in his treasured home.
"I should try to get to town even without the house I'll still have my life, afterall no chance to find them if I'm dead" Lex decided.
Lex lived over 4 miles from the main town but there was an old bomb shelter built during the second world war 2 miles away inbetween the town and his homestead.Lex grabbed my favorite coat and a his only form of self defense a stun baton he lifted of a sleeping security guard on one of his excursions to a mall in the capital of Texas, Austin.
"Welp, time to risk my life on the slim chance I can outrun a tornado" Lex joked to himself.
Lex had an abnormally high amount of both endurance and agility for a 16 year old because he had been running everywhere since he lost his family. Even for him sprinting 2 miles without stopping was really stretching it.
"I'm starting to question whether or not this was a good idea" Lex said as he was starting to flag a bit.
Lex was already getting tired and he wasn't even a quarter of the way there yet.Lex made the quick decision to ignore any thoughts related to turning back or stopping. Especially stopping because he knew if he stopped he wasn't going to start again.
"I run everywhere how am I having this much trouble running a measly 2 miles" Lex complained to himself.
"Note to self if I live I should start growing plants, I'm sure I can grow some potatoes or spinach maybe even corn if I'm lucky" Lex mused.
Lex kept up a decent pace still slow compared to the tornado but fast enough to get him to the bunker if he kept it up.But what he didn't account for was the tornados suction ability. It would serve to drastically slow Lex down. Couple this with the fact he was essentially walking into a wind tunnel now because of all the air being pulled towards him and his chances were looking bleak.
Then he saw it, the bunker.Built into the base of a hill, it was his only life line.Downside he happened to be on the wrong side of the hill. But if he could get over it then he would be home free.So he started the climb up the lush hill.
"This... is... going... to... kill... me" Lex muttered as he scaled the hill.
Then it happened, something that would leave a serious impression on Lex. He crested the hill and fell over heaving. No sooner than his hands touched the ground, what felt like an incredibly fast gust of wind completely bisected the trees on top of the hill.
"Did that tornado just shoot at me ?!?!" Lex thought to himself as he tried to process what just happened.
"Since when were tornados able to do that !!!" Lex shouted mostly being drowned out by the giant noticeably off color tornado.
Lex jumped back to avoid a falling tree and started falling down the hill towards the bunker entrance.Brushing himself off and looking around he finds himself laying no more than 2 feet from the entrance of the bunker. A hole had been cut into the bunkers door years ago by looters but more recently it functioned as a teen hangout spot and graffiti gallery.Lex jumped through the door with out a second thought. He set a large piece of scrap metal to cover the human sized hole in the door and finally relaxed.
"Finally.....Safe"Lex says exhaling slowly waiting for the adrenaline rush to die down.
"Why can't I feel my arm,"Lex wonders aloud "Oh now I feel it," Lex says when his mind finally registers the pain "That's definitely broken".
(Yo I decided to switch up the perspective to first person for the rest of the story because it's more fun to write. Please continue reading)
Then when I refocus on my surroundings I notice the tornado had passed by and was now in front of the bunker entrance.Thats when things got really weird. The sheet of scrap metal blocking the door was very visibly melting. After sitting there in shocked silence and disbelief for some time I realized the tornado might actually be out to get me.But that's insane right tornados aren't alive.I was immediately proven wrong.
The tornado finished melting the sheet of scrap and now a hand made of ... something was feeling around the bunker as if looking for something or someone.Thats when I felt it. It grabbed my leg and faster than I could even realize what happened I was pulled into the storm.
I was pulled into nature's blender and as expected I was ripped apart. But surprisingly I was pulled back together over and over again. The pain was both unimaginable and almost nonexistent at the same time. Then the wind and pain vanished and I was in a seemingly infinite and completely green space. Then I heard it.
