"Boo!" Liam came up behind me and pinched my sides. I turned around from where I stood at my locker and swatted his hands away.
"I told you to stop doing that." I frowned. He rolled his eyes and smirked at me.
"But it's so fun!" He said scrunching his nose. His blond hair falling in his eyes. He had big brown eyes. I was probably the luckiest girl alive to have him as my boyfriend.
I tried to keep a straight face but not with his cute face looking at me like that. I shook my head and kissed his cheek.
"Oh, here Sadie." He took off his football jacket and wrapped it around me. I snuggled into the warmth that his body heat left behind. "You can wear that while you watch me tonight."
"How can I watch you play if you sit on the bench all game?" I teased. He wasn't a very good football player. He sat bench most of the time. He only ever went in if everyone else was injured.
He poked my side and frowned. "I'm going to get playing time tonight. I just know it!" He smiled. Oh his poor innocent soul.
"Hey! Water boy!" Asher called from the end of the hall. He had dark brown hair and freckles and cute brown eyes and those dimples that made all the girls blush. He was captain of the football team, and about the most popular kid in school. He was a senior while me and Liam were both juniors.
A group of football boys around Asher snickered. "The water bottles won't fill themselves. Let's go!"
Liam looked down at me and smiled.
"I gotta go. I'll be looking for you on the bleachers." He leaned down and kissed me. "Love you."
"Love you to," I ran a hand down his arm and watched as he turned and jogged off toward the group of petty football players.
They started making kissy faces at him as he arrived but he didn't mind. He deserved so much better than this world.
I turned around and closed my locker. Something hit my back and I turned around to see a paper ball on the ground. I looked up to see the group of boys snickering as they walked away. Morons.
I grabbed my bag and headed off toward my car.
When I got home I changed into a comfy outfit and put Liams jacket on over top. I grabbed a duffel bag and shoved my improved suit into it. It was now blue and black with knee high black boots. I had a black mask that covered around my eyes. I upgraded a few weeks after my first battle with Obsidian. That cat women outfit was terrible. At least my wanted signs are upgraded to show my new suit.
The police think I'm a threat just like Obsidian, so they put up wanted signs and a reward for me and Obsidian. I'm just doing there job, and I'm not getting paid.
I headed out to the car and tossed my bag into the back seat in case Obsidian tried anything stupid tonight. Which knowing him was a possibility.
I went back inside to grab a bag of chips for dinner when my little brother came racing down the stairs. He ran over to the tv and turned it on.
"What are you doing?" I asked walking over and sat down next to Jamie on the couch. He shushed me and turned up the volume. I looked at the tv and saw a news broadcast.
"We have footage of Voltage and Obsidian battling it out on top of an old abandoned building." On half the screen a video popped up of Voltage and Obsidian battling. Obsidian swung at Voltages head but she ducked and kicked his legs out from underneath him. This battle was from a few nights ago.
"Did you record this?" I asked Jamie. He nodded and refocused himself on the tv. "Jamie, you can't be watching this stuff. It's to violent." I reached for the remote but he snatched it away.
"Aren't you a bit to young to be sucking face with Liam tho?" He asked. I pulled my hand back and looked at the tv again. Check and mate.
"Two innocent by standers were severely injured and rushed to the hospital. There both still in the hospital and officials are searching for Voltage and Obsidian." The video of me and Obsidian disappeared. "Three men were found dead in a warehouse strung up by there wrists. All had been severely beat then killed with a knife. All evidence points back to Obsidians work. We don't know yet who these men were or why they were targeted yet." The lady flipped her page of notes and looked at the back side. "In other news China-" Jamie put it on mute.
"Wouldn't it be so cool to meet Voltage?" Jamie asked excitedly. "Like I bet she's super pretty with her light brown hair and could easily take down any of the school bullies." He smiled brightly.
"I guess she's pretty awesome." I admitted. I mean he was right. Obsidian is the only super villain that actually puts up a good fight against me. Jamie pulled out a pen and his notebook and started writing something down.
"What are you doing?" I asked peering over his shoulder.
"Writing down the three new dead people. I recorded the news tonight to the get names of the people who Obsidian murdered. I keep a list of everyone he kills." He studied the list of names. "So far about everyone on this list has a criminal record." He said.
That notebook could be my key to stopping Obsidian. If I could find out who he plans on killing next, I could get there first and stop him.
"Can I borrow that?" I asked. Jamie shrugged and handed me the notebook.
"Thanks." I kissed his forehead and headed out to my car. I had to go watch Liam sit on a bench for four quarters. Yay.
When I arrived at school, the football game had already started. I made my way through the crowd and found an open spot on the bleachers. I sat down and flipped open the note book. I spent the entire game researching all the names on my phone.
There all part of different gangs here in the city. Obsidian has been taking these people out by rank. He's moving his way up by power. I'm pretty sure Daniel Smith is up next for the kill list. At least I hope he is.
I look up to see that our team won. Everyone was cheering and yelling. I got up and made my way threw the crowd and went to go find Liam. I got down on the field and I spotted Liam trying to get in the circle with all the other plays to cheer. Poor Liam.
"Liam!" I yelled. He looked up at me and smiled making his way to me. He hugged me and I could smell his cologne. He didn't get any playing time. "Hey, good job winning." I said.
"Thanks, I'm pretty sure coach will put me in next game. I just know he will." He said eagerly. I patted his shoulder.
"Yeah, I bet he will." I tried to sound encouraged. How long could Liam fake being so happy about everything? Clearly he was upset about being the only one who didn't play, at least he didn't show it.
"Hey, there's a party tonight at Asher's. You should totally go with me." He smiled resting his forehead against mine. I smiled and looked into his eyes. He wrapped his hands around my waist. "Please?"
I sighed. "Ok, only for a little bit tho." I said. I needed to go to Daniels house and make sure Obsidian doesn't kill him.
"Yay! What did I ever do to deserve such an amazing girlfriend?" He hugged me. I blushed. He was way to pure for this world.
We went and got into our cars and drove off to Asher's house. I don't know why I agreed to go. I don't even like Asher. Maybe it's because Liam needs a bit of light in his life, or it's because maybe I needed a bit of light in my life. I arrived the same time Liam did. We parked beside each other in the lawn. The party had clearly already started based on the screaming and loud music.
We walked up to the door that was propped open with Asher's foot. He lifted his beer bottle to Liam and I as we approached.
"Water boy, glad to see you made it." He smiled. He finished his beer and tossed the bottle into the lawn. "Come on in, water boy. I think you might need to refill some of the drinks tho. There kinda low." He gestured to a table of beverages.
I grabbed the hem of Asher's shirt and pulled him close, so close our foreheads touched. "Listen here, you dirt bag. Your going to refill your own stupid drinks and your going to stop calling Liam water boy. Do you understand?" I said in a low threatening voice.
"And if I don't?" He smirked. My grip on his shirt tightened.
"You will regret it." I snarled releasing his shirt and shoving him back against the door frame. Liam looked startled. I reached down and grabbed his hand to feel his warmth. "C'mon." I tugged him into the house.
"Hey water boy!" Asher called when we were about twenty feet away from him. We both turned around to look at Asher, but I more like whipped around. I shot him a deadly look but he just smirked at me. "Enjoy the party." He lifted his second beer bottle to us. I snarled and turned back around.
"You ok?" Liam asked rubbing my back. "You seem a bit... tense." He tilted my head up with his fingers and forced me to look at him.
"Everyone walks all over you and you don't even mind." I say. "It's so unfair." I shake my head. Liam laughs. He shakes his head and looks at me.
"I only care if you walk on me or not. I don't care about everyone else. No, not when I have you to focus on." He puts a hand on my cheek and I lean into his forgiving touch.
We partied for about an hour, never drinking anything. Who knows what was in the punch. I had to go to Daniels house and spy on him. Hopefully Obsidian would come knocking.
Liam decided he needed to get home before he got into trouble. So we both went our separate ways.
