If I stepped away from The Board of Directors, I would have more time to spend with family and it would be easier to take vacation time instead of working around their meeting schedule."
We lay there a while longer before I ask, "what about your future Lee? What do you want?"
Kynlee looks surprised by my question, but answers it anyway, "I've always dreamed of going to college. Sadly, when Mom and Dad died, that dream went out the window because I had to work full time so Kedron and I could make ends meet. Honestly, I've done a lot of taking it one day at a time. The future always seemed so far off," she says with what appears to be a sad smile.
I sit up slightly and meet her lips in a gentle kiss. I push an errant brunette hair behind Lee's ear and ask, "if you had your choice, what would you study in college?"
"Hmmm, that's a good question. This whole situation with Kedron has made me consider Nursing. I want to learn and understand more of what is going on with him. It would also make it easier to care for him," Kynlee admitted.
"So before Kedron's accident, what would you have gone to college for?" I inquired.
"When I was younger I considered Culinary Arts or Accounting or maybe even Computer Science. There are just so many options." Lee explained.
"I bet you'd do well in college. You're certainly smart enough and seem hard working," I offered.
"That's nice of you to say," she smiled and pecked me on the cheek before continuing to talk. "I just knew if I could further my education, I could increase my earnings. Now, I'd also like to help people. I noticed so many people at the hospital in the time I've spent there that could use help. They also mentioned there is a nursing shortage, so that's another plus to becoming a nurse."
"It's certainly true, the more someone is in demand, the more money they make. One thing I love about healthcare is that if you get tired of one field of study, there are hundreds, maybe even thousands more," I repeat the line I've heard so many of the nurses use time and again. "Hey, should we go take a shower, get cleaned up?"
"Like together?" She asked with her eyes wide and mouth gaping.
"Lee, beautiful...I've already seen all of you. Now I'd love to wash all of you," I retorted as I wiggled my eyebrows.
To my surprise, Lee jumped out of bed and yelled over her shoulder, "race ya," as she ran into the master bathroom.
I was hot on her heels.
