Chapter 78 - Chapter 78

"You don't have to come to training today." Darian muttered hesitantly.

He had just woken up, Leon rousing as well, Jaxon was still fast asleep in between them.

He had thrown his legs off the bed, perching on the side, wary about Leon's reaction to his suggestion.

It was far fetched but he would do a lot to keep things this way and not lose Leon to whatever kept taking him away.

"Not a chance." Leon said coldly, getting up to stretch.

He had seen that coming and just ruffled his hair in response, actually he would have been more worried if Leon had agreed to sit out training.

He would just have to keep an eye on him at all times.

"I'm going to use the bathroom in the other room." Leon muttered before striding out.

Darian turned around to watch him leave, the bruises around his neck had long faded but Leon hadn't given him the chance to sneak a peek at the bite marks on his shoulder.

He couldn't be too curious or he would risk dragging Jaxon's attention to it as well.

Dinner had gone wonderfully, Leon hadn't questioned the fact that he hadn't woken them up to go down for dinner and instead chose to cook.

It had been awfully quiet like they all had things they wanted to say but couldn't so they didn't say anything else either.

It was far from awkward though, the silence quite peaceful for all the secrets it held.

Darian pushed off from the bed with a soft grunt, things might have gone differently if they all had a fixed position in each other's lives.

If it were his brother or sister, he could snatch them into a hug and not let go till they said what was bothering them.

Maybe he should give Ian a call, Leon would skin him alive if he found out though but that was the premise for him losing his skin... 'If ' If he found out.

Ian wasn't the type to keep things from his twin but considering the kind of information he got from Ian, it might not be even necessary.

He met up with Leon in the living room and they made their way to the training ground, Leon usually handled everything while Darian gave him whatever support he needed.

Leon looked particularly listless that morning, it was the reason why the suggestion for him to stay behind for the day had been blurted out before he could stop it.

Faint eyebags were under his eyes and he kept staring into space.

Darian couldn't even tease him to break him out of whatever mood he was in, there was a particular type of emotion a person felt that you automatically knew to not try to cheer them up.

They got to the training ground to see all of the Warriors already waiting, bright eyed and alert, even Chase wasn't left out.

He had even taken a shine to Leon, one that was born out of grudging respect, he kept a wide berth between himself and the lethal Head Warrior from Pine Creek though, he didn't want to get a concussion twice.

Head Warrior Theo stepped forward as soon as they showed up, his eyes flicking over Leon far too many times.

A cold look from Darian was enough to get him to swallow back his concerned questions, he cornered the towering werewolf later when Leon was distracted though.

"Is your Head Warrior okay? He looks a little bit out of it." He murmured to Darian.

Darian's expression did not change as he glanced down at the older man. "That's not something you should be worrying about." He said dismissively, ending the brief conversation.

He headed back to Leon's side taking his job of keeping an eye on him very seriously, the training ended without any hitches and they started back for the apartment.

"Why do you keep walking so close?" Leon finally snapped, his brows low on his head.

He had noticed throughout the training session that Darian had been practically shadowing his steps.

He forced himself to pay no mind to it, chalking it to him just seeing things but the journey back proved all his suspicions right.

Darian was literally in his personal space at this point and it irritated him because of how much it affected him.

"What do you mean?" Darian decided to play the confused card.

Leon just rolled his eyes and kept walking, why was he getting so pissed about something as little as this?

Maybe because he should have been worrying about other far important things but he couldn't get Darian out of his head.

The idiot now decided to walk so close to him that their arms were almost touching.

It didn't matter if he tried to step away, Darian just inched closer again.

What irritated him even further was that he seemed to be the only one bothered about it.

Darian didn't even notice that Leon was slowly boiling beside him, his eyes sharp on the lookout for Ethan.

Just as he feared, the tall bastard made an appearance from a connecting hallway that he had no business being in, not unless he had been lying in wait for Leon.

Darian clenched his fists, his eyes darkening when he noticed just how stiff Leon became.

He had also noticed, amongst the other glaring things, that their interaction with each other had changed.

Well, it was mostly coming from Leon, he had suddenly become awkward around Ethan which was honestly ridiculous.

Leon's level of confidence was so high it was worrisome, he was the type to make a joke even when he had a gun to his head.

Usually when he met Ethan, he immediately struck a conversation but now he wasn't saying anything.

It almost seemed like he was making himself smaller and moving slightly behind Darian.

Darian wasn't having that, he wasn't about to hang around for a friendly chit chat.

"Hey, Leo..." Ethan beamed as soon as he stepped out, his smile far from reaching his eyes.

Darian immediately butted in. "My apologies, Head Beta..." He cut in sarcastically. "But we are in a bit of a hurry."

Leon didn't try to stop him when he snagged his wrist and hurried on past Ethan, brushing him as he went past.

He didn't say anything either when they had gone quite a distance, making to move to pull his hand from Darian's hold.

He was going to regret this...

Something niggled at his mind, when he had brushed past Ethan, he could have sworn that the other did something, slip a piece of paper in his pocket perhaps?
