Chereads / Mr CEO, Move On! / Chapter 17 - "Price"

Chapter 17 - "Price"

The thought of the game being dangerous gave Lai Jiayi goosebumps but knowing it wasn't a phony…

'This is actually a really good chance for me to get money for the debt and my father's surgery!'

'The game is an otome game, chasing after guys, but since it's a game, I won't really chase after a real guy, right?'

Lai Jiayi was already swayed, but then her mind was still on guard.

'There must be a price I have to pay for such a good offer.'

Thinking like this, Lai Jiayi suddenly recalled the later part of the AI speech and couldn't help but ask again.

"What do you mean if I lose the game, I will lose my most precious thing or most precious person?" She stood up and walked to the bed.

"Like for real?"

The AI replied, "For real, quack. That is the price you have to pay, quack."

...price to pay? Makes sense.

After shifting her sitting position, Lai Jiayi asked again in a trembling voice, "In my case, what will I lose?" The girl gulped nervously.

'For me, my dad is the most important thing in this world. I will do anything for him. Even selling my soul to a devil.'

Lai Jiayi clenched her fists.

'But if I lose my father once I lose the game…'

Lai Jiayi gripped the bedsheet tightly out of worry.

"In your case...you will lose your father if you don't win the game, quack." The AI's speech instantly made Lai Jiayi's blood boil.

'Losing my father? Does it means the game company will...somehow murder him as the price of losing the game??'

Absurd!

"Then why should I play??" the girl half-shouted, she almost stood up.

"I need to save my father, so why should I play this game if I lose him in the end??" Lai Jiayi's eyes reddened as she glared at the AI.

Sure enough, there wasn't anything so magical like what the game offered before.

'What silly rule is that losing the game means losing the most important thing in their life?'

Lai Jiayi was boiling in anger.

'What if the thing players regarded as the most important is their body part? Will the company game also take it??'

Lai Jiayi wanted to puke. She didn't think that the game would be so dark.

The AI understood Lai Jiayi's concern, but there's nothing free in this world, right?

Thus he spoke in a solemn tone of voice,

"Your father will die sooner or later if you don't get the money, quack. What's the difference playing and not playing then, quack?"

"I can get money somewhere else– "

"But by playing, you have a chance to win, quack! You can pay the debt, save your father with all the money you can ask, quack!" he added.

"Not to mention...you can revive your father's company again, quack!"

His last sentence hit Lai Jiayi hard. She didn't have time to wonder how the AI knew about this, but what he said made sense.

"..." Lai Jiayi shut her mouth, unable to say anything.

'I know I won't have enough money to pay the debt and the surgery fee within three months.'

The girl lowered her head.

'But with the game...I can ask for three materialistic things once I win…'

Lai Jiayi gulped nervously.

'My father will indeed be at stake here, but it's the same when I don't play the game. I won't have another way to save dad.'

Which college student could get a few million dollars in just three months?

'I doubt selling my body will gain that much…' the girl thought deeply.

Seeing Lai Jiayi start to waver, the AI immediately coaxed her again.

"Just play, quack. If you're determined enough to win, I'm sure with your wits– you can win, quack."

He paused and flashed a bitter smile. "I'll be your guide throughout the game, quack so…" The AI suddenly lowered his eyes.

'So play the game and let me live.'

That was what he wanted to say, but he shouldn't. With a gloomy face, the AI went silent.

He wanted to live. It's so hard to gain a life, and now if he failed in getting a player after so long...he would be disposed of.

Lai Jiayi could detect the AI eagerness for her to play, and suddenly, she had a feeling that the AI also had his own needs coaxing her to play like this.

"Can the price of losing not my father?" Lai Jiayi asked again, seemingly wanting to negotiate.

The duck shook his head. "You only have your father, quack. What else can you lose?"

His sentence made Lai Jiayi stay silent again for a few seconds.

'What he said is right…. I have nothing to lose except my father.'

After thinking again, Lai Jiayi bit her lips and sighed. "...alright. I'll play." The girl knew the answer a long time ago, but she's just too cowardly to take the gamble.

'So what if losing the game meant losing my dad too? Doesn't that mean I just need to win?'

The girl bit her lips.

'No. I MUST win.'

The AI, who thought that Lai Jiayi would refuse, suddenly sprung in excitement.

"Really, QUACKKK???"

This girl...accepted the game!
