Chapter 78 - Power Upgrade and Greed

Before walking back through the hole, Lorey has everyone collect the chunks of sandstone and bring them to her. Using her sand manipulation power, she rebuilds the wall, leaving only a small hole for the group to crawl through. After closing the last remaining hole up, the group lights some lanterns they have and head into the room where the turtle had laid its eggs.

"Can your spatial storage hold these eggs as well?" Sam asks as he and Gram pick up one of the eggs together and walk it over to Sydra.

"Yeah, my spatial storage is probably big enough to hold everything in this museum," Sydra says as he places his hand on the egg and sends it away. Looking back at the turtle's nest, Sydra counts out seven more eggs laying there. "Just bring the items you want to keep to me, and I'll put them in my storage," Sydra says as he sits down on a wooden chest in exhaustion.

Once all seven of the eggs were sent into the Arbor Sanctum, the group decides to split up and gather the glass cases for Sydra to place in his Arbor Sanctum.

"It really helps that you have such a large spatial storage container, otherwise we would have never been able to take all these cases with us," Lorey says as Sydra sends another two of the glass cases into his Arbor Sanctum.

"Yeah, sorry you guys have to bring them to me, but the attack from the turtle made me use up most of my strength," Sydra says as he looks around the quickly emptying room. The group is going as fast as they can because they were afraid that the battle with the turtle might have alerted some of the other groups. "It was a good idea to cover the hole with the sandstone, but I've been thinking about how the turtle managed to get in here," Sydra says as he looks around the room.

"You're right, there has to be another way into this museum," Haley says as she drops off another case that has an interesting-looking sword inside. "I think that after we clear out this room, we should continue traveling through the museum and look for the place that the turtle entered through,"

"I was thinking along the same lines, but we should make a map as we go so we don't get lost," Lorey says as she pulls out a large notebook and a pen from her backpack and starts drawing the two rooms they had been through so far.

While the group was gathering the cases, and Lorey was drawing out a map, Sydra decided to check out the power he received after he killed the turtle. 'I can sense that the fifth root has absorbed the aura of the jade-shell turtle, but there don't seem to be any other changes,' Sydra thinks, focusing on the five roots beneath his tree. 'Also the fifth root, and the root holding the fire power seem connected for some reason. Is it because both powers came from turtles?'

Glancing around, Sydra checks to make sure everyone is busy before summoning the power to see what it does. Feeling his left arm becoming heavy, Sydra looks down to see a jade shield in the shape of a turtle shell appear. In the center of the jade shield is a small red gem, and Sydra can feel an intense heat rising from it.

"What's that?" Gram asks as he sets down a glass case, causing Sydra to become startled and jump. As Sydra hops into the air, the red gem on his shell begins to glow brightly and the jade shell becomes covered in dancing flames.

"What's going on?!" Lorey asks as she looks up from her map and notices that Sydra's arm seems to have been engulfed in an inferno of flames. Running over, Lorey tries to beat the flames off of Sydra's arm with her notebook.

"Wait, stop! This is one of my powers," Sydra yells as the notebook in Lorey's hands catches on fire and she throws it to the ground. Before the flames can spread around the room, Gram throws out his hand and a stream of water puts out the fire on the notebook.

As the light in the room becomes dim once more, Lorey glances back and forth from the ruined notebook and Sydra's arm that is still on fire. "I wish you had told me that it was your power before I lost my notebook," Lorey says as she stoops down to pick up her soaked notebook.

"Sorry, I only gained this power recently," Sydra says as he focuses on the flames that cover his new shield, causing them to disperse. Pulling out a new notebook and a yellow power crystal from his Arbor Sanctum, Sydra walks over and hands them to Lorey. "I hope that this can make up for the loss of your notebook. It's a crystal that can raise your control over sand,"

Taking the crystal from Sydra's hand, Lorey looks at it in confusion for a few seconds before feeling her power raise a bit. "I guess this will do, but now I have to redo the entire map," Lorey says as the color in the crystal fades away and she tosses it to the side.

Once everything has calmed down, and people have gone back to collecting the glass cases, Sydra turns his attention back to the shield on his arm. 'Hmm, seems that I can channel my fire aura through this for an attack while I defend,' Sydra thinks as he pulls out a dagger and stabs it at the shield, only for it to bounce off.

While Sydra is testing out the defensive capabilities of his new shield, the room around him quickly empties. Placing the last glass case in front of Sydra, Haley watches as he attacks his arm with different weapons. "Would you like me to give it a go?" She asks as she pulls her trident off her back.

"Sure, and try to channel some vibrations with your attack, I want to see if it can absorb the force from that," Sydra says as he stands up and prepares himself to fend off Haley's attack. Nodding her head, Haley pulls back her trident and aims it at Sydra's chest.

As the trident pierces through the air, Sydra bends his knees and moves the jade shield in front of his chest. When the trident hits the shield Sydra feels his feet being pushed back against the ground from the force, but other than that he doesn't feel any other damage.

"Did you add the vibrations?" Sydra asks as he stands us straight and shakes his arm back and forth.

"Yeah, but I couldn't put a lot of my aura into it because I lost a bit attacking the turtle," Haley says as she twirls the trident back onto her back, and looks around the empty room. "Oh, where did the others go?" she asks.

"They went into the next room to see what it had, we should probably go too," Sydra says as he dismisses the shield and walks toward the next doorway at the end of the room.

The next room looks similar to the rooms that the group has already been through, and the group makes their way through it quickly. Once Sydra has sent all the glass cases into his Arbor Sanctum, the group continues on their way.

"So Sydra, other than the powers you have already shown us, do you have any more?" Sam asks as the group looks at Sydra curiously.

"Not really, and the powers you have seen are all my offensive...," Sydra stops talking as the group pass through a doorway and enter a wide room without a floor. In the middle of the room is a single glass case, and the only way to get to it is to cross over a small platform. Leaning over the edge of the floor, Sydra tries to see the bottom, but it is to far away for the lantern's light to reach.

"That's weird, this room is actually clean," Haley says as she notices the lack of dust everywhere.

"Really? That's what is weird to you, the lack of dust? What about the lack of a floor," Lorry says as she points to the missing floor.

Slowly making his way across the room to the glass case, Sydra holds up his lantern to see what's inside. "I think it's a scepter," Sydra says as the light from his lantern reflects off the glass case. Hooking his lantern to his backpack so he can see the contents of the case more clearly, Sydra notices a light is reflecting off the case from behind him. Confused, Sydra looks at the reflection more clearly, only to see Sam raising the back of his short swords above Lorey and Haley's heads.

"That's not just any scepter, that's our scepter," Gram says as Sydra watches Sam hit Lorey and Haley in the back of the head, knocking them out cold, and over the edge and into the Abyss. Quickly turning around, Sydra dives over the side of the platform while spreading his wings.

"We can't have that," Sam says as he fires off a sphere of water towards Sydra's back. While the sphere of water is spirling towards Sydra, Gram raises his hand and freezes the water into the shape of a spike that pierces through Sydra's back.
